The best wet cat food: rating
Commercially prepared foods remain popular among pet owners. There are several reasons for this: they're quick (no need to prepare natural food), tasty (most brands offer this), and healthy. Besides dry food, there are numerous canned options on the market, and today we present a ranking of wet cat foods based on numerous reviews from real pet owners. By analyzing each product, we'll determine its qualitative composition, and as a result, you'll be able to determine whether a particular product is good or should be avoided.

Main differences
This food differs from dry kibble in several ways, which make it unique. Here are just a few of the key differences:
- Moisture content: Up to 85% of the content is water. This may seem like a lot, but this food mimics a cat's natural diet and therefore contains moisture in amounts typical of what a predator would eat in the wild.
- Easy digestibility: thanks to a liquid-solid balance that closely resembles a carnivore's natural diet, this food is digested significantly faster. However, this only applies to premium-grade foods and above. The reason will become clear later.
- Hydration: When feeding dry kibble to your pet, it's essential to ensure your cat drinks plenty of fluids. Otherwise, such a diet can lead to the development of certain conditions, such as kidney stones. Canned food is much better in this regard: your cat gets water along with its food and is less prone to these problems (but that doesn't mean you can skip the water bowl—even the best wet cat food doesn't fully meet your cat's hydration needs!).
- Long shelf life: Like any other canned food, soft pet food can be stored in its original packaging for years.

All of the above features are advantages of this type of diet. However, there are also several disadvantages that should be considered:
- Due to its water content, this product cannot be stored for long periods of time after opening. Ideally, a serving should be consumed within a day, or, in exceptional cases, within a few days. Ideally, after opening, the contents should be transferred to an airtight glass container.
- Larger portion for satiety: these diets do not swell, meaning that a cat needs more food to feel full than with dry food.
- Dry granules, due to their dense structure, help to remove plaque and tartar from teeth to some extent, but canned pâté or minced meat, unfortunately, do not do this.
Rating
Today's market offers dozens, if not hundreds, of different brands of canned pet food. An inexperienced consumer is guaranteed to be at a loss: what to buy for their beloved cat? As with dry food, canned food is conventionally divided into economy, premium, super-premium, and holistic diets. The list below includes both premium wet cat food and more prestigious and expensive diets. The economy segment is not represented in the ranking, as its quality composition is not suitable for regular feeding to cats, and the nutritional properties of such food, as well as its health benefits, are highly questionable. So, let's move on to the ranking itself.
Almo Nature

An Italian brand launched in 2000 in Genoa. The company's guiding principles in producing pet food are the highest quality and health benefits—it claims the ingredient list is completely free of chemical dyes, preservatives, or flavorings. For example, the Almo Nature Azule Label chicken and tuna menu contains 13.8% chicken, 9.5% tuna, sardine, egg, carrot, and rice. The fish extract and salt content are also listed—no chemicals whatsoever. A 70g pouch starts at 80 rubles.
Bozita

Swedish Menus for Pets. Produced under strict quality control, Bozita is free from unnecessary ingredients—merely meat, fish, and other essential ingredients for these graceful predators. Available in chunks in jelly and pâtés. The ingredients list includes chicken (at least 92% in each chunk), plus beef and pork, calcium carbonate, and yeast. It also claims to contain the Macrogard complex, which strengthens the immune system. Many customers swear by Bozita, which rightfully holds the title of the best wet cat food. Prices for a 190-gram Tetra Pak start at 92 rubles.
Leonardo

A German product from Bewital. The quality of this food, according to reviews, is very high – consumers note that it contains a lot of meat, and the appearance and smell of the food are very appetizing. Specifically, this diet contains 65% meat and meat products, and at least 1% essential minerals. Furthermore, the ingredients are free of chemical additives, making this brand a leader in the ratings. A can of food costs 210 rubles per 400 grams.

Applaws

A British company specializing in high-quality pet food. According to the information on the can of chicken pâté, it contains approximately 75% chicken, not by-products, but high-quality meat (fit for human consumption). The list also lists 1% rice and 24% chicken broth. They produce both chunks in jelly and pâtés in various flavors. The product is available in pouches, tins, and in the original packaging—a disposable plate sealed with foil. The approximate cost of a 70g can is about 86 rubles. A pouch costs about the same—from 80 rubles per 70g.

Petreet Natura

Canned food from Bolton Group, produced in Italy. What makes this canned food special is the pieces of meat or fish, not ground into mince or paste. This means you can see for yourself that your pet's food truly consists of natural ingredients. These foods also boast a high animal content – up to 70% of the can's contents are meat or fish. For example, if you take the canned chicken breast, the nutritional content is stated as 73% chicken fillet, 24.7% broth, 2% rice, and starch. This delicious treat costs from 650 rubles for a pack of 4 70-gram cans.
Gina

An Italian brand of pet food. Their canned food is extremely popular due to its high quality – each menu is based on only natural, high-quality meat or fish that meets all raw material requirements. It is available in pouches, canned food, and small plates for single meals. The "Chicken with Tuna" pouch contains the following ingredients: chicken fillet – 42%, tuna fillet – 4.5%, gelatin – 1.2%, chicken broth – 52.3%. The price for this package starts at 70 rubles per pouch.
Brit Care

A special line of food from the Czech company Brit. Soft pieces in jelly are available in pouches and cans. The ingredients list of Cat Chicken & Cheese Pouch, in addition to chicken (42%), includes 4% cheese, rice, starch, and tuna oil. Another highlight of this canned food is the inclusion of valerian in some recipes: cats eat this food with great pleasure. The price of this 80-gram pouch starts at 66 rubles.
Pro Plan

A Purina product. Available in pouches for 1-2 meals and in tins. A distinctive feature of this manufacturer is its wide range of veterinary diets designed both for the treatment of illnesses and for supporting the body during specific periods.
For example, consider Pro Plan NUTRISAVOUR Housecat – for pets living indoors. The stated nutrients include: meat and by-products, vegetable protein extract, fish and fish by-products (including 4% salmon), plant and animal lipids, minerals, colorants, antioxidants, sugars, plant-derived derivatives, and vitamins. The price per pouch is approximately 60 rubles.

Hills Ideal Balance

A high-quality canned product made in the USA. The manufacturer claims the package is free of chemical additives and low-grade ingredients. This diet can be used as a worthy alternative to natural food and is well suited for daily feeding. However, upon examining the list of ingredients in the turkey pouch, we see the following: chicken, pork, turkey (9%), tapioca starch, sugar, oat fiber, minerals, cellulose, dried whole egg, pea protein, carrot flakes, peas, animal proteins, DL-methionine, fish oil, vitamins, trace elements, sunflower oil, taurine, and beta-carotene. The low meat content and high percentage of additional ingredients are noteworthy. The price of such a pouch starts at 55 rubles for 90 grams.

Royal Canin
We've included this in our ranking of the best wet cat foods. Originally from France, the production of these diets has been spreading around the world for many years, and with it, their quality has declined. While just 10 years ago, any breeder would have said there was nothing better for cats than Royal, today, unfortunately, it's just another premium food.
The ingredients list soy, grains, and dyes—all of which are not fatal and won't cause illness in pets after a month of feeding—but they seriously damage the brand's reputation. They offer a line of veterinary diets, as well as ready-to-eat kitten food. One 85-gram pouch costs about 53 rubles.

Sheba

These diets are produced in Thailand by Mars. Many owners have positive reviews of these foods – their pets eat them with pleasure, and the ingredients are quite good for a premium product. Another obvious advantage is their affordability – the price of this brand of food is quite reasonable, and it can be found at any nearby pet store. If you look at the chicken and turkey menu, you'll see that it contains meat and by-products, vitamins, grains, minerals, and taurine. Unfortunately, more detailed information is not available. The price of an 85-gram sachet starts at 29 rubles.

Iams

A purely American product. All canned foods from this brand are chicken-based, but the nutritional information also lists by-products (without specifying their origin) and vegetable flour, which isn't ideal, especially if your pet is prone to allergies. The ingredient list on the chicken food package includes: animal derivatives, fats (including 0.2% fish oil), vegetable derivatives (0.6% beet pulp), minerals, and sugars. The 100g pouches of this food are relatively expensive, but they have nevertheless earned a strong following in the domestic pet food market.
Other canned foods not included in this list are either significantly lower in quality and lacking in nutritional value, or, conversely, too expensive and therefore unpopular. Remember, when choosing food for your pet, always pay attention to the ingredients—high-quality ingredients and the absence of artificial additives are a guarantee of good quality.
Owner Reviews
There are numerous forums and websites online where people post comments about pet food. After reviewing these opinions, we can identify a few of the most representative reviews of wet food for adult pets and kittens:
Anna Vladimirovna, breeder of the cat Berta:
"Our family favorite is a mixed-breed, but we all adore her. We decided to give her ready-made food from a package instead of cooking porridge. We settled on Proplan canned food – that's what the doctor recommended. And you know – everything is great! She eats happily, feels fine – and that's all we need!"
Lena, animal activist:
"So, as part of my job, I often have to feed abandoned kittens. And as soon as the little ones start eating on their own, I give them Sheba kitten pouches. So far, there haven't been any problems—they're growing quickly and gaining weight steadily. It's true that sometimes one gets diarrhea, but that's the exception rather than the rule."
Veterinarian Reviews
Sergey Tarasovich, 15 years of experience in veterinary medicine:
"My clients often ask: should they switch to canned food? As an experienced vet, I can say that wet cat food is more natural than dry kibble. Feedback from my veterinary colleagues confirms this: in most cases, cats fed canned food never develop kidney stones, and kidney problems are virtually eliminated. It's all about water—cats don't drink enough, which is why dry food causes problems. Wet food counteracts this quite effectively."
