Primordial – cat food
Primordial cat food is a holistic product—high-quality nutrition made with natural ingredients. The diets contain the optimal amount of ingredients, without any unnecessary additives, to ensure your pet's body functions properly. Primordial is positioned as a grain-free food, created specifically for carnivores. It features an optimal balance of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates to meet your pet's energy needs.
Manufacturer
Primordial cat food is manufactured by Italian company Mister Pet specializes in cat and dog food. In addition to the Primordial brand, it also produces food under the Crockex Wellness, Meglium Natural Meal, Breeders dog food, and MamyNat brands.
The company places great emphasis on product quality. Quality control is maintained at all stages of the production cycle. Ingredients are purchased from certified suppliers, and each batch undergoes thorough testing. Modern technologies, including steam processing, are used to produce the food to preserve maximum nutritional value. Finished products comply with European CSQA and IFS Food quality and food safety certificates.
The diets are formulated based on research from leading veterinary nutritionists and specialized universities. This creates the most optimal formula for daily feeding of pets. Primordial pet foods are widely distributed and very popular in Europe. This product has recently appeared on the Russian market and has already earned numerous positive reviews.

Compound
Primordial dry food is grain-free, which often causes allergies and digestive issues in cats (particularly wheat and corn). It contains 70% meat and meat products, fully satisfying your pet's protein needs. It also contains 30% plant-based ingredients, essential for the normal functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and other body systems.
The manufacturer offers several feed options, each with different meat components. Their composition is as follows:
- Protein. Depending on the diet, fresh or dehydrated duck, turkey, chicken, salmon, tuna, or herring are used. Meat ingredients are listed first on the packaging of any Primordial food, with the manufacturer specifying the percentage of each meat added to the diet. Fishmeal also contains animal protein (3% of the total protein content). Another source of protein, this time of plant origin, is common beans. However, the amount is not specified. The analytical analysis shows that crude protein is 32%, demonstrating the high quality of this food and its adequate protein content, which is essential for a cat's health.
- Fats. Poultry fat (chicken and turkey) is a source of essential fats involved in energy processes. It contains sufficient linoleic and arachidonic acids to meet the body's daily requirement. Flaxseed also provides high levels of omega-3 and omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
- Carbohydrates. Primordial's primary goal is to create nutritious and safe food for domestic carnivores with a high protein content. Therefore, they do not include carbohydrate-containing ingredients that could be harmful to animals. Carbohydrates are just as important for normal bodily function as proteins and fats, but they should be chosen with caution in cat nutrition. Primordial foods contain peas and potatoes, which provide optimal energy levels and do not cause adverse reactions.
- Plant-based ingredients. Plant-based ingredients promote digestion and normalize intestinal function. This food contains the following plants: dried beet pulp (a source of fiber), seaweed meal (rich in iodine and other micronutrients), yucca schidigera (reduces stool odor), and Lespedeza capitata concentrate (a preventative for urolithiasis).
- Vitamins and microelements. The food is enriched with optimal levels of vitamins A, D3, E, E4 (copper sulfate pentahydrate), E1 (iron carbonate), E5 (manganese oxide), E6 (zinc sulfate monohydrate), E2 (potassium iodide), E8 (sodium selenite), and taurine.
- Additional ingredients. The diets also include the following beneficial ingredients: liver hydrolysate (a natural flavoring and additional source of protein), yeast and yeast products (probiotics), blueberry concentrate, and rosemary extract (natural preservatives).

Range and price
The Primordial product line offers nutrition for cats of all ages, tailored to individual physiological needs and taste preferences. The food is suitable for all breeds. The manufacturer offers only five diets, yet each meets all the animal's nutritional, vitamin, and mineral needs:
- for kittens with duck and turkey;
- for adults with salmon and tuna;
- for adults with duck and turkey;
- for sterilized cats with turkey and herring;
- for urolithiasis, with turkey and herring.
Products can be purchased in supermarkets and online pet stores. The cost of food will depend on the specific retailer's pricing policy. On average, the price per package is:
- 400 g – 450 rubles;
- 2 kg – 1600 rubles;
- 6 kg – 3750 rubles.

Pros and cons
Primordial food can rightfully be called holistic due to its high-quality ingredients. Its most obvious benefits include:
- the use of meat in diets, rather than offal, bones and other low-quality meat components;
- indication of the percentage of the main ingredients (which many manufacturers keep silent about);
- absence of components in the diet that create a false feeling of satiety (including cereals);
- no artificial flavors or preservatives.
Among the downsides is its relatively high cost compared to other super-premium foods. It's also not widely available in supermarkets and pet stores. This means that when ordering online, you'll have to pay extra for delivery, further increasing the cost.
Reviews
Valentina Egorovna Zubina:
I've been wanting to switch my cat to high-quality food for a while. After researching forums and other relevant websites, I decided to go with Primordial. I liked the ingredients and the manufacturer (a European company I trust). We started with salmon and tuna. He wasn't a huge eater, but he finished a 400g pack. Then I switched to duck and turkey—he liked it much more. Now he eats only that. His coat has noticeably improved, his digestion is normal, and his bowel movements are regular.
Liza Kamushkina:
My cat is allergic to most foods, as almost all of them contain wheat, corn, or other grains. I used to prepare her food myself, but it was inconvenient and time-consuming (plus, it meant extra cleanup, as she scattered food all over the floor). Of the various super-premium foods, I decided to settle on this one. I'm very happy with it. She hasn't shown any allergic reactions (since she doesn't contain the allergen). She eats with gusto and is active.
Larina Eremenko:
We bought Primordial cat food because our cat was developing urolithiasis. The veterinarian recommended choosing a grain-free food, at least Super Premium, with a high protein content. We chose Primordial for cats with urolithiasis, with turkey and herring. At first, she wasn't particularly keen on it because it had a distinct odor, different from her usual food. Over time, she got used to it (literally within 1-2 weeks). Now she eats normally. After switching to this food, her coat looked much better, and she began having regular bowel movements (which had been a problem before). We now buy it regularly.

I approach food selection very carefully, choosing carefully and comparing all the options... I tried switching to a grain-free diet several times, but Sima didn't like the taste of holistic foods until I tried Primordial. She's had no problems with it since the first day – she doesn't pounce, but she eats consistently, without overeating, which speaks volumes about the naturalness of the food. Her coat is shiny, and she looks healthy and happy, and the food has a lot to do with that.

I love these stylish lynx tutus!

It's good food, and everyone is happy with it. And the price isn't high at all. Compared to other holistic foods, it's average. But the food does have a meaty composition. And my cat likes it, which is important. He's generally very picky and definitely won't eat bad food. And Primordial suits him well.

My fussy cats have found this a surprisingly successful food. Before Primordial, they hadn't eaten grain-free food; they were used to premium and supreme foods with grains and chemical bait. Fortunately, within a couple of days, they transitioned from their old food to this one. Five months have passed, and their coat condition has improved slightly, albeit noticeably, and their litter box is excellent. I highly recommend this food if you're interested in trying a quality grain-free food.

Excellent holistic food! My cat loves it, and I feel safe about her health. The only downside is that it's not available in stores in our city, but I order it online and it arrives quickly. The ingredients are perfect, with plenty of meat and plant-based ingredients. We've been feeding it for about a year and a half now, and everything is great.

Cats are carnivores by nature and need meat, so when choosing food, I focused on the ingredients and the amount of meat in it. Primordial has a high meat content. Consequently, cats get full faster, have longer-lasting energy, and are less likely to experience weight gain or digestive issues. Lately, I've even started ordering larger packages, since once opened, they keep well.

We switched to this food when Barsik was out of his teens. He absolutely loves it; he eats it up with gusto, and he's in excellent health. It's all natural, has plenty of meat, and is balanced and nutritious. I also like the reasonable price by holistic standards; at least it doesn't make you feel like you're overpaying.

I occasionally foster cats. Experience has taught me that animals need the best possible food; skimping on it is unacceptable. So, I buy Primodial and recommend it to other cat owners.

Our cat is in her third year. She's a Bengal. When she was a kitten, we fed her Primordial for kittens. Then, as soon as she reached the appropriate age, we spayed her and immediately switched to Primordial for spayed cats with herring. So, our exotic cat has been on it practically her entire adult life. During this time, she's never had any digestive issues or allergies. She's doing perfectly well.

At first, I was confused by the dosage listed on the Primordial packaging. It seemed like a meager handful was a single serving! But oh well, that's just the way it should be. Now I realize it's normal. Firstly, Primordial is very nutritious because it contains a lot of meat. Secondly, the crackers swell in the cats' stomachs, creating a normal volume. My cats' favorite flavor is turkey and herring, so that's the only one we use.

I was inspired by the ingredients in Primordial cat food (no grain, 70% natural meat protein, natural ingredients, no chemicals) and switched my kitty to it. Luckily, Bonya supported my initiative, and for three of her four years, she's been happily gobbling up Primordial.

We'd already tried switching our cat to a holistic diet, but it was unsuccessful: she wouldn't eat it, and if she did, she'd vomit the whole thing back up. At our own risk, we repeated the holistic experiment, this time with Primordial (salmon and tuna). Surprisingly, our Pusa took to the Italian food; she accepted it without issue and continues to digest it well.
Anfisa
A huge thank you to the manufacturer for this wonderful food. We've been feeding Masya this food since she was a kitten. Back then, we gave her Primordial Duck-Turkey for kittens, and now our favorite is Primordial Salmon-Tuna. Our kitty is a beauty, a smart, beloved girl, affectionate, and talkative! We adore her and spoil her with only the most delicious treats!

Primordial isn't just food, it's a song! It's an ode to a cat's appetite, health, and well-being. Judge for yourself: high-quality Italian holistic food at a reasonable price. It's available at almost any online store. Order a delivery and, voila, the courier delivers huge 12-kg bags right to your door. And the cats can't get enough of it. They eat it so much, it crunches behind their ears. And so far, I haven't seen any negative reviews about Primordial.
Valentina
The food is pleasant, pleasant for the cat. The composition, the kibble, and the cat herself are all fine. I don't like the smell. But that's probably from the herbs in the formula for urolithiasis prevention. We switched to Primordial after trying three other foods. We needed to save her fur, which was falling out in clumps. And after her spaying, she started gaining weight at an incredible rate. Primordial has solved the problem, so I'll have to put up with the smell.
Alexey
The food is good, although we have nothing to compare it to. The kitten was already brought in on it with strict instructions not to change the food. But we don't need to. She's an active animal, and her weight was immediately regulated after the neutering, without any starvation. She doesn't have urolithiasis, and the food itself contains a preventative in the form of some kind of herb. The smell! That's a fly in the ointment, of course, but not a critical one. We fed her, resealed the package, and we can move on.
Anna
The food is excellent; I started buying it on a friend's recommendation. I'd never looked into it, but she knows. She saw what I was feeding her and scolded me for saying it was "poison." I don't know if it's poison or not, but Primordial is certainly much better in terms of ingredients; I'd eat it myself.
Maria
Primordial didn't work for us right away. We tricked the cat by adding a little bit to his usual Royal, and within two weeks there was no RK left in his bowl. I'm really happy that there are fewer presents in the litter box now, and the cat is all fluffy and shiny.
Sasha
Well, you rarely find holistic products in supermarkets; not everyone is willing to pay for quality pet food. It's a shame, actually. Supermarkets often sell terrible quality pet food. We love and appreciate Primordial, and we've been buying it for a long time. I don't think it's an issue anymore; you can just choose from online stores and they'll deliver. It's available on Ozon, for example, and many other places.
