Mauricio cat food

Dixy stores recently launched Mauricio, a new cat food made in the Czech Republic. Whole chunks in sauce or jelly are available in sterilized pouches of 85g and 100g, as well as in 415g tins. Dry kibble is also available, packaged in bags. Products are sold individually and in sets, and are widely distributed during special offers. The 100g package is particularly economical.

New product for the federal network

Mildberry developed Mauricio cat food specifically for the Dixy retail chain, but reviews of the product have been mixed. The introduction of the new food to the Russian market was driven by strong consumer demand. Specifically, in May 2017, pet food accounted for 25% of the chain's sales, a record high in recent years. Thus, Mildberry successfully addressed its business challenge: introducing products that could compete effectively with established brands like Kitekat, Chappi, and Pedigree.

The product has different flavors:

  • beef;
  • rabbit;
  • chicken;
  • salmon.

In addition to products intended for adult cats, the line includes food for sterilized animals, Mauricio Sterilized.

Depending on the package weight, the price of a small bag of Maurizio food ranges from 12 to 25 rubles. Pouches can be stored in the refrigerator or at room temperature. According to the manufacturer, the product will not spoil even at temperatures of +35°C. OC. Its shelf life is 2 years. Although the product is marketed as being made in the Czech Republic, the packaging has a Russian barcode. It's possible the food was packaged and pre-packaged in Russia.

Compound

The packaging states that Mauricio cat food is made with select ingredients, is preservative- and soy-free, and strengthens the immune system. Its ingredients include:

  • water;
  • meat and meat by-products;
  • fish trimmings and fish products;
  • cereals;
  • sugar;
  • vitamins (D3, E);
  • microelements (zinc, manganese, copper, iodine);
  • taurine;
  • biotin;
  • herbal ingredients;
  • plant protein extracts.

As for the percentage content of substances, in canned food the ratio per 100 g of product is as follows:

  • 82 percent humidity;
  • 8 percent crude protein;
  • 4.5 percent fat;
  • 2 percent crude ash;
  • 0.3 percent crude fiber.

The cat licks its lips

It would seem that this food contains all the necessary ingredients for a healthy cat: a shiny coat, smooth skin, and sharp eyesight. In particular, the low protein content is a positive rather than a negative, as excess protein can cause kidney problems in cats. However, the by-product meats, grains, and sugar raise many questions.

As for the former, this wording usually indicates that the raw material is of poor quality. If you take bags of beef, they contain only 4% actual beef. This is usually not meat, but lungs, bones, and other by-products.

High-quality pet foods are generally grain-free, as they are strong allergens and therefore not tolerated by all four-legged pets. Sugar is generally harmful to cats. It's also unnecessary as a flavoring additive, as cats don't appreciate sweets. This product also contains very few minerals.

Thus, it can be concluded that Mauricio is not a premium food, but an economy-class one. This is confirmed by its price. The packaging itself is in no way premium, as it is rather poorly executed: the labels are poorly printed, some of them are erased, making the information completely unreadable. Unlike the packaging of expensive foods, Mauricio's packets do not have a duplicate ingredient list on the back.

Consumer reviews

Some cats love Mauricio's food. This applies primarily to those accustomed to Whiskas and Kitekat. They happily gobble up a serving. Others, however, according to owners, are wary of it, as they are of anything new. Still others, accustomed to more expensive foods, simply refuse it.

Elena, the owner of a mixed-breed cat

“I saw Dixie in the store and decided to buy my pet new food. Mauricio "In pouches. I chose the beef flavor. My cat loved it. He ate it all and licked the bowl clean. I want to try giving him other flavors."

Andrey, the owner of two Siamese cats

"My cats are pretty picky eaters. I decided to treat them to something new and bought Maurizio cat food from Dixie. I was tempted by the fact that it was made in the Czech Republic and the ingredients seemed good. I gave it to my cats, but they wouldn't eat it. I had to feed it to the outdoor cats. They ate it with gusto."

Anna, the owner of a sterilized cat

“I recently came across wet food for sterilized cats Mauricio"I'd never bought it before, so I carefully studied the ingredients first. I didn't think it was premium quality because it was low in protein. I fed my cat this food at my own risk. I gave her a small amount, and she ate it all. I'll give her this occasionally, for variety. Despite the reasonable price, I wouldn't risk switching her over to this food entirely."

Veterinarian Reviews

Since Mauricio cat food isn't widely available, not all veterinarians have encountered it. And those who do know about it can't offer unambiguously positive or negative reviews about its effects on pets' health.

However, experts do not recommend using it as a primary diet. Dry or canned cat food can be given to Mauricio occasionally, when you want to add variety to his diet.

Nikolay, a veterinary clinic doctor:

"I can't give a definitive answer to customers' questions about Mauricio food, as it's new to our market and there's no data on its regular use. But judging by the ingredients, I can say it's not a premium product. I wouldn't recommend using it for regular feeding."

Tatyana, a veterinarian with 5 years of experience:

"Feed Mauricio "It's not premium in terms of ingredients. I also can't say it's balanced. Therefore, I don't recommend switching cats to it entirely. If your pets like it, you can give it occasionally, as long as they aren't allergic to the grains it contains."
