Dog and cat show in Offenburg
A major celebration for animal lovers took place in the German city of Offenburg. An international canine and feline exhibition was held there—the International Dog and Cat Show in Offenburg. And if visitors tired of the hustle and bustle of the canine world, they could relax in the quiet company of cats.

About the dog show
More than three thousand dogs participated, with 1,700 dogs entered into various competitions as part of the event.
Owners give their pets a final grooming before entering the ring. Their four-legged beauty must look perfect. That's why grooming supplies—a brush, scissors, and spray—are placed near the boxes. "We practiced standing and running correctly," says Yulia Shibelbein, brushing her adorable Pomeranian. This is the little one's first show, and he faces some serious competition. So, yesterday, the dog was washed and trimmed to ensure his coat was in tip-top shape.
Competitions of the event
The highlight of the exhibition was the dog race. The public watched in delight as the beautifully built hounds chased a toy hare. Another captivating show was the rescue dog performance.
"We also employ mixed-breed dogs. The key is for the dog to have a keen sense of smell," explains Michael Oser.
He trains four-year-old Twix. Every year, they cover long distances, thereby improving their skills. At the playground, the furry friends easily climb into pipes or rappel down a rope with a guide. A dog is always present in the search party. Those are the rules. An experienced dog can search 25,000 square meters in 25 minutes.

"Interesting," smiles Sarah Bergman. She buys toys for her Labrador here and watches the performances at the same time.
Fair of Abundance
The Baden Arena is bustling with activity. A dog market has sprung up here. You can buy toothbrushes, waterproof boots, and tasty treats. Happy dog owners are carrying large bags of dog food, bedding, and various accessories.

Problems with Pets in Southern Europe
Seven million dogs live in Germany. However, in recent years, their numbers have been growing due to animals imported from southern European countries.
"People feel sorry for the four-legged migrants," says exhibition director Urlich Riedenbach. "That's good, of course. However, this has led to outbreaks of dangerous diseases common in the south. For example, leishmaniasis, which can be fatal. Therefore, the animals need vaccinations."
Choosing a four-legged friend
There are no universal breeds. The Jack Russell Terrier, for example, is suitable for those who enjoy long walks. It's important to consider the dog's personality, ability with children, activity level, and care requirements. Therefore, breeders often ask clients, "Which dog is right for me?"
Stories of the exhibition participants
Franz Pfluger of Kuppenheim is exhibiting a female Miniature Munsterlander. The beauty sits on her owner's lap, carefully examining her surroundings. Her name is Baroness von Grafen Sprung, or Nessie. Franz is an avid hunter, and his pet is a hunting dog. "A reliable companion," her owner emphasizes.

There is a company standing in front of the entrance Irish wolfhoundsThey are 80 cm tall. "Peaceful giants, great friends, family members," says Frank Schwarz from Karlsruhe.

Sonia Hellmeier came here with her beloved Harry Potter. This Tibetan TerrierBut why such a rare breed? "I adore hardworking and independent dogs," smiles Sonya. However, grooming this pet is quite difficult. If you don't brush their fur regularly, it can become matted.

There were some unusual characters at the exhibition, too. One of them was Alsatian Cédric Grislin. This muscular young man breeds Shih Tzus, also known as "little lions." "I like small breeds," Cédric says, adding that the tiny lions shouldn't be underestimated. "They're strong and resilient."

Fluffy Whiskers Show
And in the next room, a cat show was taking place. 440 animals were participating. It's a different universe. Silence reigns here. The cats sit quietly in their cages, awaiting their call to the ring. Viola Zaug from Liestal breeds Maine CoonsHer cat, Bayrat von Reichenberg, is nine months old. He has already won the junior title at an international show in Switzerland.
"Maine Coons are so cute," says Viola. "I love them."
Petra Moncik holds a huge, lynx-like Maine Coon named Red Astayre, or Yoshi. The giant weighs 9 kilograms.
Every cat has a bright personality.
Renee Hodel has loved pets since childhood. Her favorites are Egyptian Maus,
Anu and Bayami. Silver-gray Purr-like cats covered in black spots. The cats lick each other affectionately. "They're very sociable and curious animals," René smiles. "They love company, are playful, and affectionate."

The children absolutely loved both exhibitions, admiring the pets with delight.
