Cat show in Switzerland

The International Pedigree Cat Show took place in Switzerland. Beautiful and mysterious creatures, along with their owners, sincerely rejoiced at victories and accepted defeats gracefully in the show's numerous competitions.

Judging system at the exhibition

The event, held in the town of Sursee, was truly massive. Over two hundred cats participated, brought from all over Switzerland and other European countries. A rigorous jury of international experts assessed the furry contestants' appearance. Owners took turns presenting their pets to the judging table. The judges carefully examined each cat and then recorded its strengths and weaknesses on a score sheet. Only those cats that met their breed standards were eligible to win.

Unusual names of the furry contestants

Guests at the event happily strolled through the exhibition hall and admired the charming pets. One cat was sleeping in a cage, another was being lovingly groomed by its owner before entering the ring, and a third, a whiskered one, was being photographed for a magazine. Each box had a small sign with the name of its occupant. Some creative breeders even took a creative approach to choosing names for their pets.

The exhibition featured Sir Lancelot (the name of one of the Knights of the Round Table in the legend of King Arthur), Lou Reed, named after the famous American rock musician, Amelie from the fairytale land of milk and honey (AmelieSchlaraffenland), and other people with unusual names.

Stars of the exhibition

Bayrat von Reichenberg doesn't yet feel like a winner. He reclines majestically in the arms of his owner, Viola G. Stücklin Zaug. This young Maine Coon has just won the semi-longhair cat competition in the under-ten-months age group and advanced to the finals, where the best junior of the show will be determined. The furry aristocrat accepts his success with a healthy dose of indifference, characteristic of all members of the noble feline family.

Bayrat is only five months old. This show was his second. This adorable little lynx, as Maine Coons are also known, didn't have to work hard to win. He looked stunning and easily bested all his competitors, delighting his owner, who was simply beaming with joy. "My pet is the perfect representative of his breed," says Mrs. Zaug. She has been breeding Maine Coons for six years.

Maine Coon named Bayrat

The goal of any breeder is to breed cats that meet the standards of a particular breed.

A Maine Coon must look sweet and well-groomed to impress judges and spectators. Therefore, Bayrat was specially prepared for the show. Before the event, he was washed several times with professional cat shampoo. And on the day of the competition, the cat was thoroughly brushed. The breeder hopes to mate her pet in a year and produce his first litter. She is confident that the kittens will be incredibly beautiful, and each one will cost over a thousand francs. However, breeding cats is more of a hobby for Mrs. Zaug than a serious source of income.

Another star of the show arrived with her owner, Ulli Amaker, from the city of Herdern. This charming Norwegian Forest cat is named "Sunny Garden's Angel of Mine." She has long, silver fur with black stripes. Ulli's wife is the furry beauty's current owner. "My wife gets very nervous at cat shows. And her anxiety rubs off on our cat. That's why my wife isn't here," Ulli says. Today, Mrs. Amaker has a great reason to be proud. Her beloved cat has become the silver-colored champion of the breed.

"Radiant Angel" is a very sociable and inquisitive cat. She even has healing abilities. "If our guests are in pain, she comes up to them and lies down on the sore spot," says Ulli. Furthermore, the Amaker couple's favorite cat is very affectionate and loving towards her owners.

Advice for those looking to get a kitten from the exhibition organizers

All animals participating in the exhibition underwent strict veterinary inspection. The local Cat Lovers' Society served as the event's main organizer. Society head Anita Trutman offered some helpful advice for those considering adopting a furry pet:

  • Buying and selling kittens at the show is strictly prohibited. You can only meet breeders and learn their opinions on a particular breed.
  • Be sure to visit the breeder from whom you plan to buy a kitten. See the conditions in which the animals are kept.
  • Never buy kittens from unscrupulous breeders.

The exhibition was a great success among both breeders and ordinary cat lovers. It also demonstrated that cats are the most popular pets in the Old World. And the number of cat lovers is growing steadily every day.
