Vitamins for dogs for joints
Dogs are naturally active, and musculoskeletal health is crucial for them. A regular diet doesn't always provide them with enough nutrients for healthy bones and joints, so owners should ensure their pet's diet includes canine vitamins for joint health. Chondroprotective supplements will prevent aging and joint deterioration, and help address existing issues.

What do vitamins for joints contain?
The main components of vitamin and mineral complexes for ligaments, joints, and bones in dogs are chondroitin and glucosamine. Chondroitin is a building block for cartilage cells, while glucosamine is a structural component of the synovial fluid that fills the joint cavity.
Most chondroprotective medications also contain vitamins, microelements, medicinal plant extracts, seaweed, and marine tissue extracts that are essential for bone health. These may include:
- Calcium is the main mineral for building bones;
- magnesium – ensures regeneration of cartilage tissue;
- Vitamin C – promotes collagen production;
- Manganese is a coenzyme involved in the formation of collagen;
- phosphorus – necessary for bone growth and mineralization;
- Laminaria - contains collagen-like compounds;
- extracts from the tissues of mollusks and crustaceans are sources of “marine” collagen, which has the highest digestibility;
- Boswellia extract is a plant-based chondroprotector that has anti-inflammatory and regenerative effects on bone tissue.

Indications for prescribing vitamins for dogs' joints
Vitamin supplements can be prescribed to animals of any age, starting at two months. Your veterinarian will advise on the appropriate dosage and the best combination. As a preventative measure, powders and tablets for joints and bones are prescribed to dogs that are subject to increased physical activity (service and hunting dogs), pregnant and lactating female dogs, and large breed dogs weighing over 18 kg.

Restorative and maintenance treatment with chondroprotectors is used after musculoskeletal injuries and surgery, and is periodically administered to elderly dogs whose bone tissue regeneration is already weakened. Chondroprotectors are also prescribed for conditions such as arthrosis, arthritis, dysplasia, and chondrodystrophy.
Signs of joint and ligament problems in dogs may include an unexplained decrease in activity, a reluctance to go for walks, a clear effort when trying to stand up, and periodic or constant limping.

Reviews
Tatyana Vasilievna Titarenko, veterinarian:
"In principle, it wouldn't hurt to give joint vitamins to dogs, even if they eat commercial food, which usually contains such supplements. But if the animal is over 6-8 years old, giving chondroprotectors is essential, otherwise problems with the musculoskeletal system cannot be avoided.
Additionally, there are dog breeds that are particularly prone to bone diseases. For example, joint vitamins are essential for large dogs. Mastiffs, Great Danes, Caucasian Shepherds, Rottweilers, Leonbergers, St. Bernards, and Newfoundlands grow very quickly, and their skeletons sometimes don't have time to mature, resulting in hip dysplasia or osteochondritis of the shoulder. Small dogs—bulldogs, spitz, dachshunds, Pekingese, and cocker spaniels—are often prone to pelvic, paw, and spinal problems due to their fragile bones.
Vladimir, Tolyatti:
"Our husky puppy took joint tablets for lameness, which he developed at four months old. After a three-month course of Canvit Chondro, he's walking normally. He'll need to repeat the course in three months, but that's not a problem—the price is quite affordable, and he really likes these vitamin tablets."
Anastasia, Moscow:
"I have two toy terriers. They're very small dogs, and although they're friendly and easygoing, they're quite a challenge, as miniature terriers are prone to all sorts of illnesses. We give them a variety of supplements, including alternating between the Ukrainian chondroprotector Vitomax and the vitamin and mineral complex Gelakan, produced by Orling. They eat it all with great pleasure. Despite their advanced age (they're almost 9 years old), our dogs have no joint or heart problems."
