Indications for use and dosage

Veterinarians recommend using Vetspokoin in the following cases:

  • Restless behavior, insomnia.
  • Inappropriate reactions towards owners and other pets living in the house.
  • Moving, climate change, noisy guests/neighbors.
  • Increased excitability.
  • Uncontrollable fear.
  • For preventive purposes.

The dosage, general regimen, and duration of treatment are determined based on the animal's weight and the symptoms identified. In all cases, it is essential to follow the instructions and your doctor's recommendations.

The standard dosage is 1 mg of the drug per 10 kg of body weight. The suspension is believed to be more gentle on the body than tablets.

Regardless of the chosen treatment system, regular use of the drug should not exceed 3 weeks to avoid addiction.

Vetspokoin Calming Suspension for Cats

The medication is administered twice daily, based on the individual characteristics and personality of the cat. If increased hormonal activity is present, contraceptives can be used in conjunction with the medication for a quick and effective effect—for example, in combination with Covinan.

  • The suspension is administered to the base of the tongue using a dosing syringe. For better acceptance, the medication can be mixed with a flavored treat.
  • The tablets are given whole or crushed into powder, also under the tongue.

Before planning long trips where your pet may be (or has been) nervous and tense, it is best to administer the medication a few days before the irritating event.

Precautions when handling animals

To prevent a cat from injuring its owner by struggling and resisting medication, appropriate measures must be taken:

  • Take a thick blanket or towel.
  • Wrap the animal in it so it can't escape and scratch. If there's significant resistance, you can involve family members in the process. One gives the medication, the other holds it.
  • If no one is around and it's time to administer the medication, wrap the cat in a blanket and place it between your knees. Hold the cat by the scruff with your left hand, and use your right hand to administer the suspension with a syringe or place the tablet under the tongue.
  • Wait for the swallowing movement and release the pet.

Contraindications

There are no clear contraindications to Vetspokoin. Veterinarians advise against giving it to cats that have just given birth or are pregnant, or to those with diabetes or any genitourinary diseases.

You should also immediately stop using the medication if you experience an allergic reaction or other symptoms that indicate intolerance to a particular component.

Price

The cost of the drug depends on its formulation and the pricing policy of the medical network. The average price range is as follows:

  • Tablets - 170-250 rubles.
  • Suspension - 200-300 rubles.

Storage rules

Store Vetspokoyin in a dark, dry place, separate from food and dry pet food. Keep the lid tightly closed; once opened, the shelf life is no more than 25 days. Keep out of reach of children and the elderly. Store at a temperature between 1 and 25°C. Unopened containers can be stored for up to 2 years from the date of production.

Reviews

Maxim:

"Six months ago, my family and I moved, a major one, to a new city. The stress and my wife and I were all over the place, and our cat was affected. He slept poorly, lost his appetite, and seemed to sense a long journey was coming soon. Three days before the move, we started giving him Vetspokoin, as recommended by the vet. He struggled, of course, and categorically refused to swallow the "strange liquid from the syringe," but we managed. Eventually, he calmed down, lay quietly in his carrier, and watched the birds. This was in the summer. Overall, this medication was helpful; it's proven effective."

Alena:

"Our Musya was way too active when she asked to go for a walk. She wore everyone out, including herself. Listening to her screams was unbearable, plus she lost weight and her appetite. I had to resort to medication. I bought Vetspokoin tablets, crushed them into powder, and literally begged our picky eater to eat them. It was a struggle, but I managed to get it done, even though I resisted. After two days, she began to noticeably calm down, sleep better, and finally stopped screaming. Now I know what to do next time."

Olga:

"Our cat is bold in his own apartment, but when we take him outside, he immediately turns into a timid rabbit. When we went to the dacha at the beginning of summer, we gave him this sedative. It was a four-hour train ride, which is stressful for a cat, plus he needs to get used to a new place. We used pills, stuffed them into cutlets, and he ate them without even noticing. So everything went well for us, without any violence or physical abuse. We'll be taking him home for the winter soon."
