Vermidin for cats
Vermidin is an effective anthelmintic medication that can be used for both therapeutic and prophylactic purposes in cats. It was developed by specialists from the Russian company Astrapharm. The medication is safe, as the ratio and concentration of its active ingredients were specifically designed for cats.

Content
General description
Vermidin is a small tablet, weighing only 0.3 g. Its small size makes it easy to administer to pets of all sizes, including kittens. The small, light-yellow tablets may have a greenish tint. This tint, as well as any inclusions, are normal.
The tablets are packaged in blisters of two. The manufacturer places 30 blisters per cardboard box. There's no need to buy packaging at the pharmacy, as the blisters are sold individually, so you can easily purchase the required number of tablets based on the number of pets and the weight of each animal (assuming you have multiple cats).
Important! Do not give Vermidin intended for dogs to cats, as it has a higher concentration of active ingredients, which can cause an overdose. Use caution when purchasing this medication from a pharmacy.

Composition and action
This combination anthelmintic is successfully used to kill roundworms and tapeworms. Its effectiveness is not related to the parasite's developmental stage. The active ingredients target not only adult parasites but also larvae.
Vermidin contains praziquantel and pyrantel pamoate. These chemicals are part of many anthelmintic drugs, as they combine relative safety and effectiveness. The substances complement each other, thereby providing a broad spectrum of action. Praziquantel is excellent at killing tapeworms. It disrupts the parasites' energy metabolism, causing disruptions in the muscular system, which inevitably leads to their death.
Pyrantel, on the other hand, is effective against nematodes (roundworms). It works in a similar way, but is virtually not absorbed into the bloodstream. It concentrates in the intestines. Praziquantel penetrates the bloodstream rapidly—reaching maximum concentrations in just a couple of hours.
According to the accepted state classification, Vermidin is classified as a moderately hazardous substance. It is believed that when used in recommended doses, it is not likely to harm animals, affect the liver or other organs, or cause mutations in offspring. However, it is important to remember that it contains toxic substances, so if you have any health concerns, it is best to consult a doctor.

When used
According to the instructions, Vermidin for cats is used to treat pathologies caused by the following parasites:
- toxocara;
- cucumber tapeworm;
- bovine tapeworm;
- roundworms;
- echinococci;
- alveococci, etc.
The medicine can also be successfully used to treat helminthic infestations, in which both roundworms and tapeworms live in the animal’s body.
It is also suitable for the prevention of infection by the parasites listed above. With regular use, it can provide reliable protection. It can be used for deworming before vaccinations or mating.
Price
The price of one blister pack of two Vermidin tablets for cats ranges from 35 to 50 rubles. Prices may vary by pharmacies and regions. The medication is considered inexpensive, so the risk of buying a counterfeit is virtually zero.
The medication is sold in veterinary pharmacies and online. No prescription is required.
How to apply
The instructions for use state that Vermidin tablets should be administered to cats in the morning, before or during feeding. Food does not affect the effectiveness of the medication. There is no need to fast before deworming. It is best to hide the tablets in food. Any food will do.

The dosage is calculated using a simple formula: one 0.3g tablet is equivalent to 3kg of animal weight. To prevent overdose, weigh your pet before deworming.
Vermidin is administered once for both treatment and prevention. The exception is severe infestations, in which case the procedure should be repeated after 10 days.
For prevention, the medication is administered quarterly. This recommended regimen should be followed for all animals, including those that live indoors and are never allowed outside. Not going outside does not guarantee that an animal will not become infected with parasites. Worms can enter their body through food, people's shoes or clothing, and other routes.
After deworming, there's no need to give your pet a laxative or an enema. This is because the ingredients in the dewormer promote the expulsion of worms. This prevents them from decomposing inside the pet and causing toxicity. In severe infestations, the body may not be able to cope with the elimination of the parasites, so additional medications may be necessary.

Existing restrictions
The active ingredient content of Vermidin is carefully calculated, so it is considered a safe anthelmintic. However, it does contain highly toxic substances, so in some cases it is best not to use it. These include:
- infectious diseases;
- exhaustion;
- weakening as a result of acute or chronic pathologies;
- lactation period;
- pregnancy.
If you have liver or kidney disease, consult a doctor, as anthelmintic medications can worsen the condition. Do not use this medication if you have an intolerance to any of its ingredients. If you have previously noticed an intolerance to praziquantel or pyrantel (even when using other medications), consider choosing a medication with a different active ingredient. If this is your pet's first allergy, give them an antiallergic medication. Your doctor can also prescribe medications to relieve the symptoms.
Please note! Vermidin should not be used on kittens under 3 weeks of age.

Side effects
If the instructions are followed, the anthelmintic medication does not cause any side effects. The exception is cases of intolerance to the components. In such cases, there is a high risk of an allergic reaction. This can manifest itself in a variety of ways, from skin reactions and itching to vomiting and diarrhea.
In case of overdose the following symptoms occur:
- depressed state;
- apathy, low mobility;
- refusal to eat;
- vomit;
- diarrhea;
- increased salivation.
If the above symptoms are observed, it's best to perform a gastric lavage. Symptomatic therapy is also used for vomiting or diarrhea.

Owner reviews
Victor, owner of a Siberian cat:
"Protecting an animal from worms is the direct responsibility of the owners. We chose Vermidin for our cat. The tablets are inexpensive, but they do a good job. The cat survived the deworming without any problems or complications. Incidentally, we didn't have to torture him; the crumbled tablets were easily hidden in his breakfast. The only drawback is that when you buy a single blister pack, you don't get instructions. We had to resort to searching online."
Anna, owner of a 4-year-old cat:
"Every summer we go out of town. We take our cat with us. Since there's a high risk of parasites at the dacha, we always deworm her. We've tried medications in various price ranges. This summer we bought Vermidin. It costs next to nothing (the cheapest medication we've tried), but it provides good protection against worms. I'm thinking about using it regularly."
Veterinarian Reviews
Mikhail, a veterinarian with 8 years of experience:
"Not everything expensive is good, and not everything cheap is bad. Vermidin is clear proof of this truth. The medication is inexpensive, but its effectiveness is just as good as foreign analogues that cost tens of times more. I often recommend it to my clients."
Lyudmila, a veterinarian with 13 years of experience:
"I've heard positive reviews about Vermidin from colleagues and clients, but I don't use it in my practice. I prefer foreign medications. I've learned from personal experience that they're safer for animals and have fewer side effects. Saving money often backfires. However, I have nothing negative to say about this particular anthelmintic. The final choice is up to each individual."
