Vasotop R tablets are a modern cardiac medication designed for dogs with hypertension, chronic heart failure, and weakened animals undergoing post-operative rehabilitation. This medication is manufactured by the Austrian company InterVet GmbH, a long-established supplier of veterinary products and medications.

In addition to its trade name, this medication also has a generic international name: ramipril (named after its main active ingredient). It comes in small, oblong tablets for oral administration with a score line down the middle (for easy dosing). The tablets come in yellow, beige, or pink.

The standard package contains 28 servings of the medication, housed in a plastic container with a screw-on lid. For safety and security, the bottle cap is moisture-resistant and child-resistant.

The daily dose is calculated individually, based on a ratio of 0.125 mg of active ingredient per 1 kg of the dog's body weight. The required number of tablets is administered once daily, on an empty stomach. If the dose is too high (for dogs over 50 kg), the medication can be divided into two doses per day.

Overdosage is usually well-tolerated, and even 10 times the recommended dose does not affect the pet's condition. In very rare cases, overdosage is accompanied by ataxia, apathy, and lethargy.

The duration of the course is individualized and determined by the attending veterinarian. If any allergic reactions occur, discontinue the course until further consultation with the veterinarian.

Vasotop R tablets

A cardboard package contains three bottles of 28 tablets each. We encountered both packages and bottles of 28 tablets. In one store, we even encountered retail sales of single tablets. However, we recommend avoiding pills from opened factory packages, as you don't know what kind of medication they are or what their expiration date is.

Reviews

Thanks to its high-quality composition and pronounced effect, Vasotop R for dogs receives numerous positive reviews from both veterinarians and pet breeders. After analyzing numerous opinions, we selected several of the most representative ones, demonstrating consumer attitudes toward this medication:

Olga, the Labrador's owner:

"Our beloved pet is getting on in years—he's approaching 11 years old. Of course, she's not as active as she used to be. After consulting the vet who's been caring for Bonya her entire life, we learned that her heart was acting up and needed support. The vet recommended a course of Vasotop, and we purchased the medication online. After just a few weeks of treatment, the effects were noticeable—Bonya became more active and playful, and even more lively. It's just a shame that the medication is hard to find in our country—most pet stores don't carry it."

Anatoly, Staffordshire Terrier breeder:

"My Boets was always a healthy and strong dog, but the years are taking their toll. The doctor diagnosed him with heart failure. I honestly thought it was a death sentence. But Vasotop helped us – he's doing well and continues to live a full life. The only thing is, we had to reduce his exercise, but otherwise, everything has remained the same. It's good that such a medicine exists!"

Doctors are unanimous in their opinion: Vasotop R is a high-quality and effective medication, significantly superior to similar medications in effectiveness. This is why many doctors prescribe this medication for the treatment and prevention of heart disease and hypertension in dogs. The only drawback of Vasotop R tablets for dogs is the price. Due to its foreign origin and limited availability, this medication is quite expensive.

  • Question: To what extent can regular Ramipril replace this drug?

    • Hello! These are essentially identical medications. The international nonproprietary name for Vasotop is ramipril. Both are ACE inhibitors. Both are used for chronic heart failure and other conditions where ACE inhibitors are indicated. Even the dosages are identical (but it's important to always read the labels, as manufacturers may make adjustments). A veterinary cardiologist can prescribe/substitute similar medications if another medication is unavailable. Currently, due to sanctions, certain difficulties may arise in the veterinary drug market.
