Vanguard 7 for dogs
Vanguard 7 is a vaccine used in dogs to prevent diseases such as distemper, leptospirosis, infectious hepatitis, and pathologies caused by adenovirus and parvovirus infections. Developed by the American company Zoetis Inc., this vaccine provides reliable protection for pets.

Content
General description
Vanguard 7 consists of two components, each of which is packaged in separate containers:
- The dry component contains adenovirus, parainfluenza viruses, and plague pathogens. It also contains additional components (stabilizers) that preserve the vaccine's properties. The dry component appears as a white mass with a yellowish tint. Due to the unusual drying method, the vial's contents are porous.
- The liquid component contains leptospirosis and canine parvovirus. It appears as a slightly cloudy, colorless liquid.
Both components of the vaccine are packaged in glass vials, which prevent air and foreign bacteria from entering. To achieve this, they are sealed with rubber stoppers and sealed with aluminum caps. The components are packaged in 1 ml doses, which equals one immune dose. At the factory, the vials are packaged in plastic containers of 50 (25 vials of each component), but pharmacies sell them individually, or more precisely, two vials—the dry and liquid portions.

Please note! This product has the same composition as Vanguard 5, but contains a larger number of antigens.
How it works
The vaccine contains pathogens that cause dangerous viral diseases. When administered to an animal, it helps develop immunity against them. Immunity lasts for one year, so booster shots are required annually to restore the pet's immune system. It's worth noting that Vanguard 7 does not guarantee 100% protection against viral diseases, but it significantly reduces the risk of infection when a dog comes into contact with sick animals. If infection cannot be avoided, the animal tolerates the disease better and has a higher chance of a speedy recovery.

The product contains inactivated or non-living pathogens grown under special conditions. It is considered safe for animals because it acts gently. When used correctly, symptoms of viral diseases do not appear.
Please note! This product has no medicinal properties. It can only be used for prevention. Do not administer the vaccine if the first symptoms of illness appear.
When and how to apply
Vanguard 7 protects dogs from a number of viral diseases. It is used to prevent the following conditions:
- plague of carnivores;
- leptospirosis;
- parvovirus enteritis;
- infectious hepatitis;
- diseases caused by adenovirus infection;
- parainfluenza.
Each of these diseases is life-threatening for dogs and is accompanied by unpleasant symptoms, ranging from vomiting and weakness to exhaustion and the inability to move independently. If prompt intervention is not taken, the animal will die.
If puppies are born to a vaccinated female, they receive protection from their mother against viral diseases during the first few months, and then require regular vaccinations. According to the instructions, Vangrad 7 for dogs can be used from 8 weeks of age. The first vaccination is administered at 8 weeks, followed by a repeat dose at 12 weeks. Subsequently, booster vaccinations are administered annually—every 12 months.

If the drug is used on an adult dog that has not previously been vaccinated, the immunization is administered twice, with 2-3 weeks between the first and second injections. The standard schedule is then followed: once a year.
Dosage and some nuances
The dosage is the same for adult pets and puppies. A single dose is 1 ml of the prepared solution. To obtain it, draw up the liquid component using a sterile syringe. Pour the liquid through the punctured rubber stopper into the vial containing the dry substance and shake thoroughly to ensure a homogeneous suspension.
Important! The prepared solution can be used within half an hour. Then discard it.
The drug is administered subcutaneously. The injection site must be cleaned with rubbing alcohol before administration. Strict aseptic technique must be observed during the procedure. Only sterile syringes and needles may be used. Disposable syringes are preferred for this purpose.

Deworming is essential before vaccination. Worms can suppress an animal's immune system, so their presence can lead to complications. Deworming should be performed 10 days before the procedure to allow the parasites time to die and be expelled from the pet's body.
Contraindications and side effects
The vaccine can only be used on healthy animals. If your pet has health issues, it's important to treat any underlying conditions first before immunizing. Malnourished and weakened dogs have weak immune systems, so their bodies may be unable to fight off viral pathogens, leading to complications and deterioration in health.
Please note! The instructions state that Vanguard 7 should not be used on pregnant dogs.

Dogs generally tolerate the medication well. If the vaccine is administered to healthy pets, no symptoms of viral diseases will appear, but a slight loss of appetite, decreased activity, and weakness may be observed in the first few days. Vanguard 7 can trigger anaphylaxis, so effective injectable antiallergy medications should be readily available to provide emergency care if necessary.
Storage and use features
Vanguard 7 should only be stored at a temperature of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius. It is best to refrigerate the vials. Exposure of the vaccine components to sunlight is strictly prohibited. Temperature control is also essential during transportation.
Please note! The product cannot be used after freezing.
The drug should not be used to immunize dogs in the following cases:
- The bottles do not have labels or any information about expiration dates, manufacturer, or ingredients.
- The packaging is not tightly closed or the rubber stopper is damaged.
- The contents of the bottles have changed color or consistency.
- The product was stored incorrectly, for example, the temperature regime was not observed.
In all of the above cases, and also if the vaccine from an opened vial has not been used within half an hour, it is decontaminated by boiling for 30 minutes. The product can also be decontaminated with an alkaline solution or chloramine. After these steps, Vanguard 7 is disposed of without further action.

Avoid contact of Vanguard 7 with skin or mucous membranes. If this happens accidentally, immediately rinse the affected area with plenty of water.
Price
One dose of Vangard 7 (2 vials) costs between 250 and 300 rubles, depending on the pharmacy and region. It's sold in many veterinary pharmacies, although it's not a popular dog vaccine. You can also order the medication online, but be sure to purchase from trusted sources.
Owner reviews
Peter, the Labrador's owner:
"Choosing a vaccine for my Labrador puppy was a difficult task. I read countless forums, spoke with real people, and researched online. Ultimately, I settled on Vanguard. I'm a doctor, so I administer my dog's injections myself. I've been using this product for five years now and am always satisfied with the results. While there may be other good vaccines out there, I've found an excellent option for my dog."
Lyudmila, the owner of a shepherd dog:
"I've been using Vanguard 7 for my dog for several years. It's reliable protection against viral diseases. It's never failed. Irma tolerates the immunizations very well. Her appetite and desire to run remain intact. Her behavior and health have remained unchanged. Deworming is a must. It's a good product and reasonably priced."
Vita, the owner of the Spitz:
"We were dissatisfied with the vaccine. The first vaccination was given at 2 months, but at 7 months old, the dog contracted parvovirus and barely recovered. I can't recommend it to other dog owners because the vaccine doesn't work. It was a waste of money."
Veterinarian Reviews
Galina, a veterinarian with 7 years of experience:
"Choosing a vaccine isn't easy, but Vanguard 7 could be an excellent option. It's American-made and safe. In my experience, I've only had one case of parvovirus enteritis in a puppy, and even then, it was the owners' fault. They didn't perform the required deworming. I prefer this vaccine for medium and large dogs due to its high antigen content."
Vadim, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:
"It's a good vaccine. The main advantage is that it protects against several diseases simultaneously. It can be used for puppies from their first vaccination. The main disadvantage is that it's often out of stock in pharmacies in our city, as it's not very popular among dog owners."
