To vaccinate pets or not?

Many pet owners remain skeptical about vaccinations, the main reason for which is cases of unsuccessful vaccinations, when a vaccinated dog still gets sick.

Recently, a large number of domestic and foreign vaccines have become available, which can even be purchased at a market and administered at home. This option is very dangerous for the dog's health, as the animal's health at the time of vaccination plays a crucial role. Any minor deviation from the norm (poor nutrition, parasites) can weaken the immune system, rendering the procedure ineffective. Vaccination should only be administered to healthy animals, regardless of whether it's a Doberman or a mongrel.

All diseases of domestic animals are divided into two main groups:

  • zoonoses (affecting only animals);
  • zoonoses (affecting not only pets, but also people).

In the first case, the owner risks only the animal's life and health if it's not vaccinated; in the second case, it's their own. All animals must be vaccinated, regardless of age or breed—it could be a French bulldog or a mixed-breed kitten.

The most common canine diseases are parvovirus enteritis, leptospirosis, contagious hepatitis, and distemper. These diseases are severe and can be fatal not only in puppies but also in adult animals, so vaccination is essential. Although rabies is much less common, vaccination against it is also essential, as infection can be life-threatening for humans.

It is recommended to vaccinate pets starting at two months of age. This should be done at a veterinary clinic, where the pet will be checked for worms, fleas, and other diseases.

It is believed that stray animals have stronger immunity than American Bulldogs, as natural selection favors the survival of the fittest, and vaccinations are unnecessary. Although non-pedigree dogs and cats are indeed more resistant to viruses, they should be vaccinated first, as they may carry latent infections.

Today, there are many vaccines of domestic and foreign production. For small animals, it is best to give Russian vaccinations, while for older animals, foreign ones can be used.
