Moscow's first cat cafe: what is it, what is it for, and how should you behave?
In early April, specifically on the fourth, 2015, the first cat cafe, called "Cats and People," opened in Moscow. Yes, that's not a typo, and your eyesight is fine – a cat cafe has opened! So what is it?
What is a cat cafe and why is it needed?
First and foremost, this is a place to relax. There are hammocks throughout the space where you can relax and read a book, which the staff at this entertainment establishment will kindly lend you. If you like comics, there are plenty of them here. You can even draw your own. They'll teach you!
If you'd like to surf the web (or just lie around) for a while, you can do that here too! Free WiFi is available to all guests. Even if your device runs out of battery, you can charge it here (either wirelessly or via a cable). While your tablet or phone is powering up, you can sip free coffee and munch on delicious cookies. You can even borrow an iPad for your stay at the cat cafe so you can continue surfing the web.

Cartoons are shown (mostly Japanese, but there may be others) starring cats. After all, the cafe belongs to them! Yes, it does. It would seem like the perfect environment for human relaxation. And that's great, but the main goal of opening a cat cafe is to provide cats with human interaction.
The hall houses not only purebred pets but also those less fortunate in life: lost and abandoned. If you find one you like, you can adopt them, giving them the home, love, and care they've been dreaming of. It's the large number of people who interact with animals that often prevents formerly homeless cats from quickly socializing and finding a new home. But cat cafes have their own rules that everyone must follow.
Rules of conduct in a cat cafe
First of all, you can't make noise.
The establishment is full of cats, and they don't like noise. And people reading in a hammock wouldn't appreciate being disturbed either. Therefore, there are some caveats for those bringing children. On weekdays, children over 5 are allowed, but on weekends, the minimum age is 7. However, if your little one is quiet and doesn't run around screaming like a squirrel while you helplessly chase them, try to calm them down, please contact the administration in advance and make arrangements. If your child behaves well, they will receive a certificate at the end of their visit with the cats.

To avoid any awkwardness, reserve a spot before visiting the cafe, so you can be sure to enter at the designated time. After all, this is the only cat cafe in Moscow, so there are plenty of people who want to visit, and cats need a cozy and peaceful environment. You also pay per minute, depending on the day of the week and time of day. You can also find more information, reserve a spot, contact the administration, and check opening hours. Although the staff usually works until the last customer leaves, no one is rushed out.
Overall, it's a great place to relax at a cat cafe. You can interact with a wide variety of cats, and you might even take one home if you like each other. There are events every day, like a breed day, mothers with their babies, or movies. In any case, it's never boring.
