History of origin
Russian felinologists came to know Ussuri cats largely thanks to Olga Sergeevna Mironova. In 1993, Mironova first described Ussuri cats, and a year later, a preliminary breed standard was adopted. The first specimens soon left the breed, but the breed failed to gain recognition and popularity. Breeding efforts failed to yield the desired results. Today, very few Ussuri cats remain, and they are on the verge of extinction.
Ussuri cats aren't actually a breed. Rather, they're a distinct group of breeds that emerged through spontaneous crossbreeding between local domestic and wild cats, then developed independently within a limited area.
What does a Ussuri cat look like?
The Ussuri cat is medium-sized, with a strong and proportionate build. The head is small and rounded, set firmly on a short neck. The forehead is slightly flattened, with a faint stop. The cheekbones are rounded, and the cheeks are full, especially in males. The nose is straight, and the chin is strong. The ears are set high and medium in size. The eyes are rounded, set slightly obliquely. The legs are strong, and the paws are rounded. The tail tapers smoothly at the base to a rounded tip.
The original pattern of the Ussuri cat in felinology is called mackerel or striped tabby.
The coat is short and coarse, with a well-developed undercoat. Its density varies greatly between summer and winter. The back and sides have distinct, unbroken stripes. The cat's paws and tail are also decorated with rings. A distinctive "M" appears on the forehead, and "arrows" extend from the eyes to the back of the head. The neck is usually adorned with a "necklace." The coat is brown, with dark or black stripes.
Character
Ussuri cats are very freedom-loving and independent. They recognize only one owner, the one they've chosen, and tolerate all others within their territory. They are very proud and self-sufficient. Like many other natural breeds, their natural instincts come first. These cats are natural hunters and predators with a well-developed territorial instinct. They are intelligent and calm.
Maintenance and care
The Ussuri cat is not suited to apartment life; it needs freedom and access to the outdoors. Therefore, a private home is the best option. It doesn't require any special grooming and is quite capable of grooming itself. It's rare for a cat with this personality to tolerate brushing and other grooming procedures. As for nutrition, natural foods are preferred. Alternatively, you can choose a high-quality commercial food with a high protein content, which is more suitable for an active adult cat.

Health
Ussuri cats, thanks to their natural origins, boast excellent health and a strong immune system. At least at the time the standard was written, there was no evidence of a predisposition to disease or hereditary pathologies. Subsequently, the breed was not developed and no complex research was conducted.
Where to buy a kitten, price
There are no nurseries that breed this breed either in Russia or abroad. Therefore, buying an Ussuri kitten is practically impossible. The only way to get a tabby friend is to travel to the Amur region and find an animal with a suitable phenotype and appearance among the native cats or kittens. There are offers for Ussuri cats online, but usually, these are just ordinary kittens of a similar coloring. For this reason, we won't discuss the price of an Ussuri kitten.
