General description
Uro-Ursi is produced in capsule form. They have a white shell with the company logo and name printed on it. Inside the capsule is a red powder. It has a characteristic herbal odor. This is due to the active ingredients being herbal extracts.
The capsules are packaged in polymer jars containing 14 or 90 capsules. For cats, it's best to purchase smaller containers, as they'll last for one course. If smaller containers are unavailable, you can choose the second option. In this case, the medication will last for several courses. Pay attention to the manufacturing date. The medication can only be used within one year from the manufacturing date. Storage requirements are simple: keep away from direct sunlight and maintain a temperature between 5 and 25 degrees Celsius. A shelf in a closet, a drawer in a dresser, or a kitchen cabinet are suitable for storage.
Composition and action
Uro-Ursi contains 3 active components:
- Cranberry extract. Inhibits the activity of harmful microorganisms. The substance found in cranberries has a unique ability: it adheres to pathogenic bacteria and is then excreted along with them. It has an anti-inflammatory effect, making it effective for cystitis and other urinary tract infections.
- Bearberry extract. It has a diuretic effect. The medicinal plant extract contains flavonoids and tannins, which can destroy pathogenic microflora and have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. Furthermore, the plant can relieve pain and have an antispasmodic effect. As a result, the preparation not only eliminates the cause of the disease but also helps relieve symptoms.
- Vitamin C. Uro-Ursi contains an improved form of vitamin C. This component is involved in many biological processes, but most importantly, it improves the absorption of other substances contained in the product. It boosts immunity, helps the body fight viruses and bacteria, and inhibits the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms.
Thanks to the combination of these components, the drug not only relieves inflammation but also reduces urine acidity. Its diuretic effect prevents stone formation. The drug also contains protein, fiber, and lactose. These components serve a more supportive function, providing the animal with nutrients.
Price
The price of Uro-Ursi depends on the packaging volume:
- 14 capsules – from 280 rubles;
- 90 capsules – from 950 rubles.
The medication can be easily purchased at almost any veterinary pharmacy. Supply issues may only be encountered in small provincial towns. In these cases, online pet pharmacies are available.
When used
The medicine is prescribed to cats with difficulty urinating, as well as in the presence of the following diseases:
- urolithiasis;
- cystitis;
- infections of the genitourinary system.
Uri-Urso is usually combined with other medications. This greatly increases the effectiveness of the dietary supplement. A doctor should prescribe a combination therapy. Self-medication of pets is not recommended.
The medication can also be used to prevent the recurrence of urolithiasis. It is often given to cats to prevent urolithiasis. It is especially recommended for cats at risk:
- after sterilization;
- after castration;
- in case of excess weight;
- at low activity.
Regardless of whether you're using the medication for treatment or prevention, dietary adjustments are also required. This is especially true if your pet has stones or is at high risk of developing them.
How to apply
The instructions for use indicate that cats should take one capsule of Uro-Ursi per day. Administering the medication is quite simple. Simply open the capsule and sprinkle the powder into the food. Use only a small amount of food to ensure your pet consumes it all.
Most cats are very sensitive to foreign odors in their food, and therefore refuse to eat it at all. If your pet is one of them, you'll have to resort to a forced method:
- Carefully open the capsule.
- Mix its contents with a small amount of water (2-3 ml will be enough).
- Draw the prepared mixture into a syringe without a needle.
- Force the liquid into the animal's mouth. Keep the cat's head elevated to prevent the liquid from spilling back out. Pour the solution sideways, as if into the cheek. Otherwise, the animal may choke.
The method of administering the medication should be selected taking into account the characteristics of the animal, its habits, preferences and character.
Treatment lasts 14 days. For prevention, courses are repeated several times a year. The frequency is determined by a doctor based on the risk of relapse, the pet's overall health, urine test results, and other factors.
Please note: When using Uro-Ursi, monitor the pH level of your pet's urine.
Contraindications and side effects
Uro-Ursi is a safe, natural medication and therefore has no contraindications. There are only two situations in which the medication should not be used:
- if the urine pH level is below 6.5;
- in case of intolerance to the components included in the drug.
There are no other restrictions on the medication's use. It is approved for use in animals of any age. Pregnancy and lactation are also not contraindicated.
The instructions state that Uro-Ursi does not cause side effects. However, allergic reactions may occur in case of intolerance. Their manifestations depend on the individual characteristics of the animal.
Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantages of the drug include the following:
- Safety. The product is made from natural ingredients and is therefore well tolerated by animals. It is non-toxic to the liver and does not cause side effects.
- Compatibility with other drugs. Well suited for complex therapy, it is combined with drugs whose action is aimed at eliminating the cause or symptoms of the disease.
- Versatility. It can be used equally effectively for the treatment and prevention of diseases of the genitourinary system.
- Convenient dosing. Regardless of the weight of the cat, one capsule is needed per dose.
Another advantage of this medication is that it contains no dyes or other chemical additives. Its components are not susceptible to radiation or microwave irradiation.
Uro-Ursi has no significant drawbacks. The only downside is the length of treatment. However, if the animal consumes the powder with food, this does not cause any additional inconvenience.
Owner reviews
Marina, owner of a 4-year-old cat:
"I noticed my cat's litter box was almost empty after a night. I started monitoring him during the day and noticed he was hanging around the litter box for a long time before doing his business. We went to the hospital. The doctor diagnosed cystitis and prescribed Uro-Ursi. Finding the medication in pharmacies proved difficult. We had to order it. At first, we tried mixing the powder into his water, but the cat refused to drink it. We had to resort to forced feeding – giving him water with a syringe. He improved on the sixth day, but we continued to give him Uro-Ursi for two weeks. It's a good and safe remedy."
Vladimir, owner of a 15-year-old British cat:
"Our British friend has kidney stones. We periodically take Uro-Ursi, Kotervin, and other medications. Regular courses help prevent recurrence. The medication is effective. I can tell by the changes in her test results. We usually buy several packages at a time, as the pharmacy doesn't always have it."
Veterinarian Reviews
Pavel, a veterinarian with 13 years of experience:
"Uro-Ursi is a good medication, although not as popular as Kotervin. I usually prescribe it in combination with other medications. In this case, treatment results are noticeable within a few days. The only drawback is that the powder solution must be force-fed into the cats. It's not cheap, but the main thing is its effectiveness."
Lyudmila, a veterinarian with 9 years of experience:
"I can't speak to the effectiveness of this remedy due to nagging doubts. I don't trust herbal remedies much, although they are suitable for prevention and overall health maintenance. However, in acute cases, more drastic measures are usually necessary. In any case, this medication will not harm the animal. Whether or not to use it is entirely up to you."

I have a 15-year-old Thai cat. He's got a bit of a problem, and the prognosis isn't great. He only has one functioning kidney, and he has another struvite in his ureter. I give him frequent treatments, including Uro-Ursi. It provides relief, albeit temporary. He also takes Cyston, Sinulox, and Omez.
