Ciprovet for cats
Ciprovet is an antibacterial medication used to treat various infections in cats. The formula was developed by the domestic manufacturer, Agrovetzashchita, taking into account the specific needs of felines. Available as eye drops and tablets, the medication is highly effective and has a broad spectrum of action, making it frequently used in veterinary medicine.

Content
Operating principle
Both tablets and drops share the same active ingredient: ciprofloxacin hydrochloride. This component is produced synthetically. It has no natural analogues, but it is effective against a variety of harmful microorganisms. This antibiotic's active ingredient is effective against the following types of bacteria:
- Staphylococcus aureus;
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa;
- mycoplasma;
- chlamydia;
- streptococci;
- salmonella;
- pasteurella;
- the causative agent of anthrax;
- clostridia, etc.
The drug works by blocking bacterial protein synthesis, which subsequently kills the bacteria. Its key feature is its rapid action. For example, when taking tablets, the maximum concentration of the active substance in the blood is reached in just 1.5-2 hours. The drug's effect lasts for 24 hours.

The drug is considered moderately hazardous. If the dosage and recommended regimen are strictly followed, it has no negative effects on the body, does not cause mutations, or other undesirable consequences.
Price
The price of Ciprovet depends on the dosage form:
- eye drops – 220-270 rubles;
- tablets (for cats) – 145-185 rubles.
The advantage of this antibacterial agent is its availability. It's easily purchased at any veterinary pharmacy or ordered online from a website specializing in pet products and medications.
Pills
In addition to ciprofloxacin hydrochloride, the tablets contain lactulose, calcium stearate, and other excipients. The manufacturer has developed an innovative formula for this antibacterial agent. The main problem with antibiotic use is the frequent development of intestinal dysbiosis, but Ciprovet contains lactulose. This is a prebiotic that promotes the growth of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Therefore, the intestinal microflora is restored more quickly after completing a course of antibacterial therapy.

Please note! The manufacturer produces Ciprovet tablets for both cats and dogs. They differ only in the active ingredient content (15 and 50 mg, respectively). When purchasing, select the appropriate medication to avoid overdose.
When used
When taken in tablet form, the active ingredient penetrates all organs and tissues through the bloodstream. It is used to treat acute and chronic conditions caused by pathogenic microorganisms sensitive to ciprofloxacin. This antibacterial agent is effectively used to treat the following conditions:
- bronchitis, pneumonia, tracheitis, tonsillitis and other inflammations of the respiratory system;
- enteritis, salmonellosis, dysentery and other gastrointestinal infections;
- hepatitis, pancreatitis and other inflammatory processes of the liver and pancreas;
- cystitis, inflammation of the kidneys and other organs of the genitourinary system;
- joint and bone infections;
- boils, phlegmons, inflammatory processes of soft tissues, including those accompanied by suppuration.
The medication is often used to treat secondary infections that develop against the background of viral pathologies.
How to apply
According to the instructions, Ciprovet tablets are given to cats once daily. It's best to place the tablet on the back of the tongue to ensure swallowing. To reduce the risk of psychological trauma, the tablet can be hidden in a small amount of food, but it's important to ensure it's consumed.

The antibiotic dosage is calculated as follows: 1 tablet per 3 kg of body weight. The course of treatment can last from 3 to 5 days. In rare cases, the doctor may prescribe the medication for a longer period. Using this antibacterial agent without consulting a veterinarian is strictly prohibited.
Possible limitations and warnings
Although Ciprovet is considered safe for cats, in some cases it is better to avoid its use:
- in pathologies of the nervous system, which are accompanied by convulsions;
- during lactation (the active substance penetrates into milk);
- when carrying offspring;
- in case of serious pathologies of cartilage tissue.
Please note! Do not use antibiotics on kittens during growth. They may negatively impact this process and cause serious developmental delays.
Ciprovet tablets should not be combined with the following medications:
- other antibacterial agents;
- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
- theophylline;
- medications that contain aluminum, magnesium, and calcium cations.
Since the drug is not compatible with all medications, the medications for combination therapy should be selected by a doctor.
Eye drops
The eye drops contain 0.45% ciprofloxacin. They also contain Trilon B, purified water, and benzalkonium chloride. The medication is available as a colorless or light yellow liquid and is packaged in 10 ml polymer bottles. The bottles are convenient to use, as they are equipped with a dropper.
Please note! Once opened, the drops can only be used for 30 days.
Indications and contraindications
The instructions indicate that Ciprovet eye drops for cats are used for the following conditions:
- for conjunctivitis, occurring in acute or chronic form;
- for blepharitis;
- for corneal ulcers;
- for keratitis;
- with septic iridocyclitis;
- with keratoconjunctivitis.
The drug can also be used to prevent the development of infectious pathologies in the following cases:

The medication should not be used on kittens under 7 days of age or in cases of intolerance to any of the ingredients. The medication has no other contraindications. If your pet has cerebral atherosclerosis, antibiotic eye drops should be administered under veterinary supervision.

Features of application
Ciprovet is administered to cats, one drop per eye (or both eyes). If the condition is accompanied by purulent discharge, the procedure is as follows:
- First, apply 3-4 drops.
- Gently wipe away the pus using a sterile gauze pad.
- Then re-instill 1-2 drops.
The drops should be applied 3-4 times a day, and the course of treatment can last from 7 days to 2 weeks. The course can be repeated if necessary.

If Ciprovet is combined with other eye drops, there should be a break of at least 5 minutes between instillations.
Side effects
Antibiotic tablets do not cause side effects when administered as directed. If an animal is intolerant to the active ingredient, the following symptoms may be observed:
- refusal to eat;
- nausea and vomiting;
- swelling;
- impaired coordination of movements.
If the above symptoms are noticed, treatment with the antibacterial agent is stopped, and then measures are taken to remove the active component from the animal’s body.
Eye drops may rarely cause the following side effects:
- itching;
- redness;
- lacrimation;
- minor pain.

Even if your animal develops such symptoms, you shouldn’t worry, as they will go away on their own within 5 minutes.
Owner reviews
Larisa, the owner Japanese bobtail:
"Our cat was prescribed Ciprovet for bronchitis. I hid the tablets in a piece of meat. He had no problems eating them. The treatment results were positive. There were no side effects. The cost is quite reasonable. The only drawback is that it's difficult to divide the tablet into quarters."
Ekaterina, owner of two cats:
"After a fight between my cats involving their main weapon—claws—a purulent discharge began appearing from their eyes. The vet recommended Ciprovet drops. After using the drops, severe tearing occurred, but the results of the treatment were visible after just three days. Overall, it's a good and effective treatment, although not very comfortable for the animals."
Veterinarian Reviews
Victoria, a veterinarian with 5 years of experience:
"I believe that injectable antibiotics are more effective, so I rarely prescribe Ciprovet tablets. It's an excellent option for owners who don't know how to administer injections and who can't afford to visit the veterinarian every day. Regarding its effectiveness, I have nothing negative to say – the medication does an excellent job of its primary function and effectively kills bacteria."
Gennady, a veterinarian with 12 years of experience:
"Tsiprovet eye drops are an excellent antibacterial treatment for conjunctivitis and other eye inflammations. I often prescribe them to my clients. Owners sometimes complain of discomfort to their pets, but the medication doesn't cause any serious side effects."
