The product helps in the fight against all types of round and flatworms. It is used for deworming of animals, infected with parasites, and for the prevention of nematodes and cestodes. The active ingredients quickly combat adult worms and their larvae. The product is available only in blister packs of ten tablets. Each package contains two blister packs.
Troncil is a common drug used to treat schistosomiasis and giardiasis. It has low toxicity to animals. After oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, with peak plasma concentrations reached two hours after ingestion. It then spreads throughout all organs and tissues, paralyzing the parasites and ultimately destroying them.
The active ingredients remain at maximum concentration for twenty-four hours. After forty-eight hours, the medication is metabolized and excreted from the body through the urinary and digestive systems. The drug has no cumulative effect. One of Troncil's unique features is its effect on all life cycles of roundworms and flatworms, so a single treatment is usually sufficient.
The medication can be used in both older dogs and very young puppies. If your pet has chronic illnesses, consult your veterinarian for dosage advice. The number of tablets depends on the animal's weight.
Chemical properties
These are light yellow, odorless tablets with a slightly bitter taste. The drug is hygroscopic and water-soluble. Troncyl can be used as an analgesic due to its praziquantel component. It is effective against gastrointestinal nematodes. It is a type of antibacterial drug, primarily used to treat schistosomiasis and giardiasis.
It is a toxic substance that produces nitrogen oxide vapors when burned. Store Troncil at low temperatures in a dry, well-ventilated area away from food, animals, and children.
Instructions for use of Troncil
Troncil for dogs is used according to the instructions. Before use, carefully calculate and check the exact dosage. The medication should be administered during meals; it can be ground and mixed into ground meat or other daily food.
When treating schistosomiasis and giardiasis, do not miss any doses of tablets. If you do, immediately give your pet the missed dose and then contact your veterinarian to set up a new schedule.
It's worth noting that there are no dietary restrictions for your dog before using this medication. Sometimes veterinarians recommend giving your dog a laxative to prevent prolonged constipation. This may occur when the dog has a large number of worms.
If they die instantly, they accumulate in the digestive tract and begin to secrete harmful toxins. This will significantly worsen the pet's condition, so if a severe infestation is suspected, a laxative should be administered.
The following dosages are indicated in the instructions for Troncil:
- for dogs weighing ten kilograms – 1 whole tablet;
- For pets weighing five and two kilograms, the tablet should be divided, in the first case in half, in the second - into four parts.
For each subsequent kilogram, one tablet is added, so if your four-legged friend weighs thirty kilograms, he needs to be given three whole tablets.
Contraindications
Although Troncil is quite well absorbed by the animal’s body, it still has contraindications.
This product should not be given to pregnant bitches because the active ingredients penetrate the blood-brain barrier. It should not be given to nursing mothers after birth, as it may adversely affect the nervous system of newborn puppies, potentially leading to future pathologies and disorders.
The drug is not recommended for all weakened animals with kidney or liver disease. This is especially true in situations where the parasite infestation is severe, as the diseased organs may not be able to withstand the strain.
Also, it is not recommended to use tablets:
- babies who are less than six weeks old;
- four-legged pets suffering from infectious diseases;
- animals with individual intolerance to the active substances of Troncil;
- dogs with allergies to the drug.
The tablets should not be taken simultaneously with other anthelmintic drugs.
For preventative purposes, Troncil is used once every quarter. For the treatment of parasitic infections, consult your veterinarian for dosage information. Before each mating and vaccination, deworm your dog with an anthelmintic ten days before.
Side effects
The drug is well tolerated, but may cause the following side effects:
- in the first hours dizziness is possible, and as a result, loss of orientation;
- headaches;
- stomach ache;
- diarrhea;
- weakness;
- muscle pain.
All this does not affect deworming, does not last long and does not require any special treatment.
Storage conditions and price
The tablets can be used for five years after the production date indicated on the blister.
Once the medication has expired, do not give the tablets to animals under any circumstances. The medication should be resealed and disposed of with other waste.
