General characteristics
Stop-Itch suspension for cats is a yellow or orange solution for oral administration. The suspension is packaged in a 10 or 15 ml polymer or glass bottle. The bottle is packaged in a cardboard box along with a plastic dosing syringe and instructions for use. This product is suitable for both cats and dogs.
Stop-Itch is manufactured by the Russian company Apicenna, which produces pharmaceuticals for animals. The company's products meet all modern requirements, as confirmed by GMP certification. In addition to the suspension, Apicenna also produces Stop-Itch spray for cats and dogs, intended for external use.
Based on its toxicity, Stop-Itch is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4). If instructions and safety precautions are followed, it will not harm the animal.
Before using any medication, consult a veterinarian to determine the exact cause of itching and skin inflammation. Self-medication should be avoided, as it may cause irreparable harm to the animal.

Compound
The main active ingredient, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, is triamcinolone (1 mg per 1 ml). This is a synthetic corticosteroid hormone derived from hydrocortisone, a natural glucocorticoid synthesized by the adrenal cortex.
Stop-Itch also contains ingredients that improve tissue metabolism and accelerate tissue regeneration. Each ml of the medication contains:
- pyridoxine hydrochloride (one of the forms of vitamin B6) – 2 mg;
- riboflavin (water-soluble vitamin B2) – 4 mg;
- nicotinamide (nicotinic acid amide, also known as vitamin PP or B3) – 10 mg;
- methionine (water-soluble amino acid) – 20 mg;
- succinic acid – 2 mg.
Additional substances:
- Twin-80;
- sodium benzoate;
- potassium sorbate;
- cyclamate;
- aspartame;
- saccharin;
- xanthan gum;
- glycerol.

Operating principle
Stop-Itch suspension, when administered to a cat, begins to affect the affected area, exerting a complex effect. The steroid hormone triamcinolone has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and immunosuppressive effects. Triamcinolone stimulates the synthesis of lipocortin, which in turn affects the physiologically active substances involved in inflammatory reactions, inhibiting their action.
Pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6) has properties that stimulate metabolism. Riboflavin (vitamin B2) plays a vital role in maintaining proper bodily function. It is essential for healthy skin, nails, and fur, making it particularly beneficial for dermatological conditions. Nicotinamide has an anti-allergic effect. Methionine, an essential amino acid, has a beneficial effect on protein metabolism, increases choline synthesis, and improves liver function. Succinic acid is involved in cellular respiration, normalizing metabolism and energy exchange in tissues.
The active ingredients provide comprehensive treatment, reducing inflammation and promoting tissue regeneration in the skin and hair. They eliminate itching, discomfort, and allergic reactions. They strengthen blood vessels and improve tissue metabolism, promoting rapid tissue regeneration.

Indications for use
Stop-itch for cats is used to treat dermatitis of various etiologies:
- rashes on the skin;
- inflammatory diseases;
- allergic reactions;
- itching of immunological origin or caused by external irritants;
- weeping wounds on the skin;

The drug is also effective for inflammatory diseases of the ears.
Directions for use
The dosage of the veterinary product Stop-itch for cats is calculated based on the animal’s weight:
- from 1 to 3 kg – 0.25 ml/day;
- from 3 to 5 kg – 0.5 ml/day;
- from 5 to 10 kg – 0.75 ml/day.

The suspension is administered once daily at the same time each day, preferably in the morning. The medication can be mixed into food, but in this case, it's important to ensure your pet consumes the entire dose. It's best to administer the medication forcefully using a dosing syringe. To do this, hold the animal's mouth open and inject the suspension into the cheek so the cat can swallow it properly.
The medication is prescribed for 12 days. The standard dosage is used for the first 4 days, and then halved for the remaining 8 days. If the desired effect is not achieved after the course of treatment, consult your veterinarian for further treatment options.Side effects
Stop-Itch is generally well-tolerated. It may cause adverse reactions in cases of individual intolerance to the ingredients, such as:
- increased salivation (a common reaction, usually goes away on its own within a few days);
- weakness;
- decreased activity;
- loss of appetite;
- diarrhea;
- vomit.
If your cat experiences severe adverse reactions that do not resolve within 1-2 days, discontinue use of the medication. In some cases, the animal will require symptomatic treatment, as prescribed by the attending veterinarian.

Contraindications

- the animal has an individual intolerance to the components;
- acute process of viral disease;
- diabetes mellitus.
Also, the medication is not recommended for use in animals weighing less than 1 kg, or in pregnant or lactating cats. If the medication must be administered to females during pregnancy or lactation, treatment must be closely monitored by a veterinarian. It is important to consider all risks and weigh the benefits against the potential harm to the animal and its offspring.
Stop-itch should not be combined with medications containing steroid hormones (corticosteroids):
- glucocorticoids (steroidal anti-inflammatory agents - cortisone, hydrocortisone, prednisolone, triamcinolone, dexamethasone etc.);
- mineralocorticoids (aldosterone).
When using several anti-inflammatory drugs, it is necessary to take into account their composition in order to avoid causing unwanted reactions in the animal’s body.

Reviews
Yulia Sergeevna, owner of an American cat:
"The vet recommended Stop-Itch Suspension to us after my cat developed a dermatitis following an insect bite. The wound wouldn't heal because she'd scratch it until it bled at every opportunity. The product soothed the itching, and the wound began to heal. The problem was solved. One drawback is the discomfort the animal experiences when administering the suspension. However, this can be ignored, as the product truly delivers good results."
Grigory Luzhinsky, owner of two cats:
"We initially used Stop-Itch spray to treat allergic dermatitis. But we had to stop using it because it was very inconvenient and the cat was terrified of it. For the second treatment, we had to coax the cat out and restrain him by any means possible. So we switched to a suspension. We mixed the product with food (wet food), it was well tolerated, and the condition subsided. Everyone is happy."
Ekaterina Naidenova, Persian owner:
"Our cat often suffers from allergic reactions, so we carefully monitor his diet. However, sometimes we have to change his food because he gets bored with it, and when introducing a new food, he developed a rash and itching. He scratched the wounds very quickly and thoroughly, so we needed to take immediate action. The doctor recommended Stop-Itch. We administered the medication for 12 days (0.5 ml for the first four days, 0.25 ml for the remaining days), although the effect was noticeable almost immediately. We completed the full course. The results were excellent."
