Mutual sympathy between dogs and humans
Dogs can show warm feelings for their fellow dogs. This fact has been proven by Italian scientists. Typically, affection between dogs arises during play.
We smile at our companions when they smile at us. This is called emotional "contagion" and is considered a sign of empathy, a trait not unique to humans. Great apes (chimpanzees and orangutans) also mimic the actions of their fellow apes. And recently, dogs have been recognized as so-called sensitive creatures. Researchers believe that man's faithful companions are capable of empathizing with their owners and fellow dogs. However, most dog owners have long known this.
About the experiment
Researchers from the Natural History Museum at the University of Pisa have discovered that dogs exhibit emotional contagion through their body movements. Furry pets involuntarily mimic the actions of their fellow dogs. The scientists observed the behavior of domestic dogs during playtime in a park in Palermo. The experiment involved 49 dogs (26 males and 24 females) of varying ages, from puppies to adults. The researchers observed the animals' emotions in various situations. When a dog wanted to play, it squatted on its front paws and opened its mouth.

Research results
The dogs' eye contact lasted less than a second. During this time, they imitated the facial expressions and postures of their fellow dogs. The dogs frolicked more readily with long-time friends than with strangers. The four-legged friends actively imitated each other during play.
The study showed that there is a strong friendship between dogs.
