It can disguise itself as a mop, and it's hard to spot on a shaggy carpet - it's all a dreadlocked dog, a representative of one of the breeds called Puli, Komondor, or Bergamasco.

Komondor
The largest dog with dreadlocks. In the photo, he's a powerful, shaggy giant, his fur hanging to the ground in curled cords, covering his ears and eyes. The Komondor is a variety of Hungarian shepherd. Its purpose is to help herd sheep. Looking at a photo of a dreadlocked dog among a flock, you might not immediately recognize the four-legged shepherd. Dreadlocks aren't the result of selective breeding; they're a natural trait of the breed. Their fur begins to curl in puppyhood, and the first braids appear at 6-8 months. It's unlikely that ancient shepherds carefully combed their helpers, but they were expected to trim them along with the sheep. If this isn't done, the cords become matted, and the animal loses its beauty. The Komondor's unusual coat is no accident: this coat retains heat well, making it able to withstand cold and temperature fluctuations, which is crucial for working on high-altitude pastures. The coat even covers its eyes, protecting them from the sun.
Personality traits
The dog is completely independent. It will guard its assigned property even in the absence of a human. This shepherd will never leave its post, even males will not follow a female if they are on duty. But this thoroughness in the Komondor develops over time. This breed is also called the "eternal puppy," because up until the age of three, the dog is ready to frolic like a baby.

Herding was the dog's primary role, but over time, it became more used as a companion or gundog. Another name for the Puli is "swimming dog." It earned this name for its assistance to hunters in retrieving game from water. However, given its habits, the Puli could also be called a "flying dog": it is adept at leaping over the backs of sheep and can cover great distances in a single jump.
Personality traits
Like the Komondor, the Puli is extremely independent. It can handle a large herd on its own: it understands where the animals need to be driven, regulates the flock's pace, and quickly gathers the animals around itself. Human companionship is also important to the Puli: it quickly forms a bond with its owner and regards them as its undisputed leader. There can only be one owner, while other family members are considered "insiders," and the dog shows respect, but not affection, for them. Anyone who finds themselves among strangers should be wary of this breed: first, they must earn the owners' respect, and then the dog will accept the guest. The Puli also has an ambivalent attitude toward children: it can tolerate mischief, but it cannot stand open bullying. The Puli thrives on kindness, and if it is mistreated, it will become withdrawn.
Bergamasco
One more A dreadlocked shepherd dog, but originally from Italy. Its name comes from the province of Bergamo. For several hundred years, it has been helping shepherds on the Alpine plains. The breed BergamascoThe Bergamasco can survive in the most challenging conditions, doesn't freeze, and tolerates food deprivation well. The only thing the Bergamasco dislikes is confinement. This dog needs space and the opportunity to run vigorously.

The Bergamasco is highly attuned to human thoughts, so its relationships with everyone in the family are individualized. It loves children and prefers them to adults, as they are fun to play with. This breed is loyal to strangers, but only until it perceives a threat from a person. Then, the Bergamasco will resolutely defend its territory and its family.
Peculiarities of pet care
- Coat. A dog with dreadlocks doesn't need to be brushed. When a puppy's locks begin to tangle, they can be separated by hand. The strands are separated by hand, and the older the dog, the less often this should be done. The coat grows throughout its life. A dog can be trimmed, leaving dreadlocks up to 25 cm long.
- Bathing. For comfort, place the dog in the bathtub and spray it with a flexible showerhead. Use a special lanolin-based shampoo for pets. Lather the dreadlocks very gently, without using circular motions, to avoid tangling the fur. Finally, rinse the dreadlocks thoroughly and wring them out by hand, like a mop. To ensure the braids retain their natural shape, it's best to leave them slightly damp and let them air dry.
- The animal's ears and paws should be carefully examined. Due to the thick fur, wounds or parasite infestations may be missed. Trimming the hair on the paws and ears is recommended.
