Archie Andrews' dog
Fans of the TV series Riverdale will surely recognize a Labrador retriever when they see it on the street: it's the beloved dog of Archie Andrews, the main character in the comics. What a handsome, large dog! It seems like if you got one, it would perfectly mimic the four-legged actor's habits.

Breed characteristics
Vegas (the name of Archie Andrews' dog) is a striking example of the Labrador breed, whose history began in the late 19th century. There are several theories about the origin of its name. The simplest relates to the Labrador Peninsula, where the breed is believed to have originated. The second, although not 100% proven, is based on the black dogs' appearance resembling the rock formation labradorite. The third theory is more plausible, as it doesn't rely on the animal's appearance but rather on its character: a huge worker, which is precisely what "Labrador" means in Portuguese.
Classic examples are large, powerful dogs with black or brown fur. The fawn color, like that of Archie Andrews' dog, was the most recent addition to the breed standard, in the 20th century. Today, light colors are the most popular, due to the dog's photogenic nature. It's fawn Labradors that are most often seen in advertisements and on magazine covers. Apparently, the stereotype is at work: a fawn color means kind and loyal.

The best qualities of the breed
- Easy to train. This breed ranks 7th in its ability to quickly learn commands. And these aren't just reflexes; the dog is intelligent! They understand not only commands but also the essence of a person. This is why they are increasingly being seen in police work. Labradors are able to distinguish between criminals and those simply afraid of dogs, recognizing not only the adrenaline released by a person but also their energy.
- A companion dog. The ancestors of this breed were excellent helpers for their owners: they helped catch fish, haul in nets, and went hunting as gundogs. Today, they are assistants to the disabled and loyal nannies for children. The dog also demonstrates devotion to its owner in the film: when Archie Andrews, hiding his relationship with Geraldine, enlists the help of Vegas, the dog plays along, providing his master with an alibi.
- Therapy dog. A Golden Retriever is sometimes compared to a dolphin. They can sense cancer, warn of the onset of an epileptic seizure, and can identify their owner's pain by smell. Most often, dogs use their energy to encourage people to fight illness. Their gentle yet strong paws provide excellent massage. A dog shares joy and sorrow with their owner, supporting them in difficult times (remember Vegas running after Archie on the boy's first day of school or saving him from death with the power of her mind). Labradors are wonderful therapists. This quality is used in working with autistic children.

- Hard work. Endurance and boundless energy distinguish retrievers from other breeds. They can withstand heavy loads and can run for long periods, which is useful in hunting. Labradors are excellent swimmers. Given this breed's boundless energy, it's not recommended to keep this dog in an apartment. They need space.
Four-legged actor
There's no better breed for a film than a Labrador. He's a natural actor who doesn't need to learn his lines. It seems as if every scene was played by a real owner and his pet. In fact, KJ Apa, who played Archie Andrews, and the dog only met on set. There were no problems on set: Vegas followed commands perfectly and allowed the actors to touch him. And all thanks to his breed: Labradors are completely non-aggressive and don't hurt people, even if they're pestered with intrusive attention. They simply retreat to the side, seeking a quiet spot.
