Doctor shampoo for dogs

Doctor Shampoo is a hygiene product for pets. It is used for grooming their fur and skin, helping combat dermatitis, rashes, and other skin problems and preventing their occurrence. It helps relieve irritation and eliminate redness. Before using, carefully read the indications and contraindications for use and the instructions.

Composition and release form

This zoohygienic product is an off-white astringent liquid with a pleasant aroma. Previously packaged in 100 ml bottles, more economical 200-250 ml bottles have recently been introduced. All packaging features flip-top caps, allowing for easy dispensing of the shampoo.

The manufacturer produces three types of shampoo:

  • regular "Doctor";
  • with birch tar;
  • with climbazole.

The products differ in composition and action.

A regular "Doctor"

The main component of this hygiene product is benzoyl peroxide. When it comes into contact with the skin, it breaks down into hydrogen peroxide and benzoyl acid. It acts as a good antiseptic and has the following effects:

  • destroys bacteria;
  • negatively affects fungi and viruses, in particular staphylococci;
  • neutralizes fatty acids;
  • normalizes lipid production.

The excipients are:

  • purified softened water;
  • sodium lauryl sulfate;
  • sodium chloride;
  • propylene glycol;
  • coconut oil fatty acid diethanolamide;
  • cocamidopropyl betaine;
  • preservative.

They moisturize the skin or enhance the action of the main ingredient, but shampoo is recommended for skin problems, such as irritation, or occasionally to prevent them. Frequent use will dry out the skin, leading to severe flaking.

With birch tar

The basic chemical composition of the shampoo's excipients is virtually identical to that of regular "Doctor" shampoo, but its main component is birch tar. It has the following effects:

  • improves blood circulation;
  • stimulates regeneration processes;
  • has a moderate effect on the receptors of nerve endings.

Thanks to the presence of glycerin, the product moisturizes the animal's skin well and can be used regularly for hygiene procedures.

With climbazole

It features an innovative formula based on two components that provide powerful antifungal action:

  1. Climbazole is a fungicide that targets fungi, including Candida species. It inhibits their growth and reproduction, thereby maintaining healthy skin biocenosis.
  2. Willow bark extract is a plant-based ingredient with anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antiseptic properties. It also contains salicylic acid, which stimulates the sebaceous glands, thereby reducing excess sebum production.

It is recommended for use to prevent fungal infections, especially during periods of weakened immunity in animals, for example, when taking antibacterial drugs or during infectious diseases.

Purpose and action

"Doctor" shampoo is designed for the hygienic care of animals with problematic skin. It can be used for treatment or prevention of skin conditions such as dermatitis, acne, and rashes.

Dog in the bathroom

The skin acts as the body's protective barrier, but under certain factors, such as a weakened immune system, it can fail to perform its functions. This can lead to redness, inflammation, and allergic reactions. Shampoo helps maintain the skin's natural biocenosis and provides protection against fungal and other infections.

It has the following effect:

  • relieves inflammatory processes;
  • enhances the effect of antiparasitic drugs;
  • prevents the development and proliferation of fungal infections;
  • normalizes the functioning of the sebaceous glands;
  • eliminates unpleasant odors;
  • relieves itching;
  • stimulates skin regeneration.

It perfectly washes even long animal hair and removes damaged or exfoliated epithelial cells, accelerating the regeneration process.

Indications for use

Recommended for animals with problematic skin. Indications for use may include:

  • dermatitis;
  • rashes;
  • seborrhea;
  • infestations with ticks, fleas or other parasites;
  • inflammatory processes;
  • acne;
  • folliculitis;
  • fungal or bacterial infection.

The dog is being bathed

Regular "Doctor" shampoo has a drying effect and promotes exfoliation, so it's only suitable for therapeutic purposes. It can't be used as a regular hygiene product. Shampoo containing birch tar has a moisturizing effect on the skin and can be used daily or regularly over a long period.

It is recommended to use shampoo with any composition before treating the animal with antiparasitic agents.

How to apply

Doctor shampoo is easy to use. Just follow these simple steps:

  1. Apply a small amount of the solution to your pet's damp fur. The amount of solution depends on the pet's size.
  2. Lather and then rinse immediately with clean water.
  3. Reapply and leave on for 5-7 minutes.
  4. After this, rinse well.

Bathing a dog

It should be applied daily or at intervals of 1-3 days, depending on the composition and function of the sebaceous glands, and the animal’s lifestyle (consider how quickly the dog’s coat gets dirty, how much time it spends outdoors, and so on).

It should be used for treatment for 7-10 days or until skin symptoms disappear. As a preventative measure, it is recommended to apply it several hours before treatment with antiparasitic medications.

Side effects and contraindications

Absolutely safe for dogs, as confirmed by pet owner reviews. It can be used on animals of any age, weight, or breed. The only contraindication is an individual intolerance to any of the ingredients.

No serious side effects were observed during use. In some cases, with prolonged use, the following may occur:

  • whitening effect (does not harm the pet’s health);
  • Intense peeling – discontinue use. Peeling usually resolves on its own and does not require treatment.

Dog in soap suds

Avoid contact with eyes, as the components irritate the mucous membranes. If this occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of running water.

The affordable price of Doctor dog shampoo is one of its main advantages. The price depends on the volume and ingredients:

Owner reviews

Oksana, the mongrel's owner:

"We have a stray dog, and although he's not a pedigree, we love him very much, so he spends a lot of time indoors (we live in a private home). With the onset of hot weather, the dog started emitting an unpleasant odor, so we bought "Doctor" shampoo to get rid of it. We were very disappointed, as it didn't produce the desired results. I had a hard time washing him. I don't recommend it."

Julia, the Labrador's owner:

"The dog started itching a lot. The vet prescribed Doctor shampoo. We used it once a week. After just the first use, the dog felt better. His coat became smooth and shiny. Over time, the irritation completely subsided. We didn't use any other treatments or medications, so I can confidently say it's effective."

Sergey, owner of a 3-year-old dog:

"The vet prescribed it to treat demodicosis. After just one use, my dog developed severe irritation, including redness and itching. The vet said it was possible my pet had an intolerance."

Veterinarian Reviews

Natalya Yuryevna, a veterinarian at a capital clinic:

"I sometimes prescribe it for atopic dermatitis or other skin conditions. It should be used daily or 2-3 times a week. I regularly remind pet owners that the product is not intended for continuous use, as it has a therapeutic effect. After walks, dogs should be washed without detergents. These should be used no more than 1-2 times a month."

Lyubov, a veterinarian with 15 years of experience:

"I often prescribe it for demodicosis in conjunction with the main treatment. It significantly speeds up the animal's recovery. Peroxiderm shampoo, which has a similar formula but is more expensive, is also available."
