The world's angriest cat
Every owner has a cat who holds the title of their favorite and funniest animal. Sometimes pets actively demonstrate independence or even stubbornness, but the title of grumpiest cat was first officially earned by Grumpy Cat, whose mission, despite the title, was to make people smile.

An eloquent name
Grumpy literally means "angry" in English. The internet gave this cat this name. The family that adopted her initially named her Tardar Sauce. This name has an interesting story: due to her dark fur, they decided to name her after Tartar sauce, but the family's youngest daughter misspelled the name, replacing the T with a D. The adults decided the mistake sounded interesting and piquant, so they decided to keep the original name.
Grumpy Cat was later nicknamed after a photo appeared online under that caption. This happened in the second half of 2012, but by December it had already gone viral, receiving millions of reposts and tens of millions of views. Grumpy was less than a year old at the time.
Funny face
This popularity came as a complete surprise to her owners, as cute cat pictures are often the most popular online. Grumpy clearly doesn't fit that category: her face betrays disdain, sullenness, irritation, and a whole range of other negative emotions.
A grumpy cat is actually quite affectionate and loving in everyday life, and the fact that it's difficult to tell from their appearance is due to their genes. Their unique facial expression is the result of dwarfism, with all the attendant consequences of musculoskeletal disorders and an overbite. This overbite is what causes the distinctive drooping corners of the mouth and the angry expression.
Many people want to have a similarly charming pet, so they're interested in the Grumpy breed. Unfortunately, it's difficult to give a definitive answer, as there's conflicting information on the subject. Some sources say Grumpy is a Snowshoe, while others insist Grumpy's parents were ordinary mongrel cats, making it very difficult to replicate the random combination of their genes.

A Star is Born
The idea to post a photo of a grumpy cat online came from the owner's brother. Within the first 24 hours, it was clear the decision was the right one, as the number of likes was off the charts. Within weeks, the image became a recognizable meme, spreading across social media and other portals.
The decision was made to create personal accounts for Grumpy on Facebook and Instagram. The combined number of followers on these pages easily surpassed 10 million. From there, the "grumpy" star's life became even more exciting: she was invited to appear in two commercials for the world-famous Friskies cat food. Grumpy Cat's presence in the commercials attracted the attention of customers and boosted sales. It's unclear whether Grumpy enjoyed the shoot, but her owners certainly enjoyed it and earned a tidy sum from the Friskies company.
In May 2013, Grumpy Cat won the biggest award of her life—the Webby Award for Meme of the Year—but the triumph didn't bring a single smile to her haughty, angry face.
The pinnacle of her stardom was an offer to play the lead role in a feature film, a character somewhat similar to Garfield but with an even more distinctive appearance. Unfortunately, these plans never came to fruition, but experts believe that even without pursuing a career as a feature film actress, Grumpy Cat earned her owners approximately $100 million in income.

Tragic ending
Grumpy died at the age of seven in May 2019. Before her death, she had suffered from a urinary tract infection, for which she underwent treatment but never recovered. Her owners were devastated, as any pet owner would be. After the news of her death, they shared how they found comfort in the fact that their pet had brought smiles to millions of people around the world.
Successor
Fans lost their favorite cat, but another cat was soon discovered to take the place of the angriest cat. It was a six-year-old Persian cat named Louie, who lives in Texas. Despite his gentle nature, his face constantly sports an irritated and angry expression. The only creature to whom Louie has ever shown any negative traits is a kitten named Monet. His owner got this kitten when Louie was already an adult, so it took a couple of months for him to warm up to his new neighbor. But now the animals have become friends and get along wonderfully.
