Holistic dog food ratings
We present to you the 2016 holistic dog food rankings! The pet food market is rapidly growing, offering more and more ready-made dog foods each year. This is undoubtedly a huge advantage for all pet owners, as the wide selection allows you to choose the most suitable food for your pet. Even the highest-quality holistic dog foods now include over 20 brands, whereas previously, it was simply impossible to find more than two or three. However, for this same reason, it's becoming more difficult to sort through and identify the best holistic dog foods.
We decided to review the most popular brands of pet food in this segment available on the Russian market. The key selection criteria were: the quality of ingredients, the amount of meat, the correct balance of nutrients, and the absence of synthetic preservatives, artificial flavors, colors, and other questionable additives.

Holistic dog food ratings
So, let's begin our 2016 holistic dog food rankings...
#1 Go! Fit+ Free
Go!Fit + Free Grain Free is ranked first among holistic dog food by independent experts, breeders, and veterinarians.
This premium Canadian food is part of a renowned line of dry dog food. It contains 70% meat and meat components from four different sources: fresh turkey, salmon meal, chicken fillet, chicken meal, and duck meal. This food is completely grain-free, with healthy sweet potato (a vitamin-rich sweet potato) serving as carbohydrates.
This food is highly digestible and suitable for dogs of all ages. A wide variety of fruits, vegetables, berries, and herbs provide this line with organic vitamins, powerful antioxidants, and natural probiotics. All ingredients undergo rigorous quality control, and all Go! foods meet the standards of the American and Canadian Pet Products Associations (APPMA and PIJAC). This allows Go! products to top the 2016 holistic dry dog food rankings.

Another advantage of this manufacturer is the division of feed into three groups:
- Grain-free diet
- Hypoallergenic food for sensitive digestion
- Whole grain formula
This makes it possible to select the optimal diet even for dogs with special needs.
No. 2 Innova Evo Red Meat
Innova Evo – this holistic dog food is our second-highest ranking. Manufactured in the USA, it has long earned a reputation for high quality among professional dog owners and dog lovers. It's a grain-free food made with at least two types of dehydrated meat, plus two more in the form of herring and poultry meal. It also contains fresh eggs, cottage cheese, potatoes, garlic, and other ingredients. Innova Evo Red Meat, a formula featuring four types of red meat: lamb, venison, beef, and buffalo, receives high recommendations. This unique recipe offers high nutritional value and exceptional taste.

All products of this brand are rich in B vitamins, as well as A, E, D3, K, and C, and all essential minerals. It's worth noting that all the beneficial substances are natural and are provided by a wide range of fruits, medicinal herbs, vegetables, and berries. For example, tomato and beet pulp provide fiber, while chicory promotes healthy digestion. Innova ready-to-eat food is available for small and large breeds (with large and small kibble), as well as canned food (with duck, rabbit, beef, venison, and chicken). There's also a special diet for overweight dogs—Innova Evo Reduced Fat. Thanks to all these benefits, this brand's food received a silver medal in the 2016 Holistic Dog Food ranking.
No. 3 Orijen Six Fish
Orijen Six Fish is made in Canada. This unique formula contains the meat of several salmon species: sockeye, chinook, and coho salmon, as well as walleye, trout, and whitefish. It also includes salmon and herring meal. The total fish content reaches 70%, providing a natural source of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. The food is also grain-free, making it ideal for dogs with food allergies and highly digestible. The high protein and calcium content will satisfy the needs of even adult large-breed dogs. All the essential vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients are contained in the remaining ingredients: seaweed, crab shells, medicinal plants, fruits, berries, and vegetables. Overall, Orijen offers excellent holistic dry dog food, ranked #3 on our website.

No. 4 Pronature Holistic
We can't forget Pronature Holistic dry dog food, specifically Pronature Holistic Turkey with Cranberry—a nutritional supplement for adult dogs of all breeds. Its main ingredient is turkey, along with chicken and herring meal. Carbohydrates are provided by potato, brown rice, oats, and barley. Cranberries support urinary tract health, while mussels, shrimp, and crab shells provide nutrients essential for joint health. A variety of herbs, berries, fruits, and vegetables ensure an optimal balance of vitamins and minerals.
Pronature Holistic dog food is also available in a grain-free version (duck and orange) and a specialized puppy food. The salmon and brown rice diet, enriched with omega-3 and omega-6, helps maintain healthy skin and a shiny coat. For owners of aging pets, we recommend Pronature Holistic dog food for dogs 7+ years old, which has received positive reviews from veterinarians.

No. 5 Grandorf
Grandorf dry and wet food is produced in Belgium and Italy. The entire range is presented in three nutrition lines:
- Low grain feed

The low-grain category is divided by dog size and age. This brand's Rabbit & Potato Recipe, a rabbit and sweet potato diet for all breeds, earns high marks. This grain-free formula for adult dogs is ideal, even for those with allergies. Its unique feature is the use of rabbit meat as the main ingredient, which is easily digestible and low in fat and cholesterol. Grandorf holistic dog food ranks number 5 in our ranking.
No. 6 Now Fresh
Now Fresh Puppy is a grain-free Canadian puppy food suitable for all breeds. It's made with duck, turkey, and salmon fillet. Now Holistic dog food provides your puppy with a probiotic complex for healthy digestion, as well as omega oils for healthy skin. Savarra is a good food. I've been feeding it to my picky Aussie, who suffers from allergies, for almost two years. He eats well, licks his bowl, and looks great. Before this, I tried Royal Canin (it was fine when I had French), Orijen, Acana, and Hills. All allergic reactions have long since disappeared.

I don't feed holistic food because we were already full up to the point of urolithiasis... we switched to Hill's and her health improved dramatically! I think holistic food is overkill, more expensive, and it's not guaranteed to be suitable. I compared the digestibility—our food is much better digested than the holistic food. I made my own conclusions about choosing the food. Holistic food also lacks vitamins.

Most holistic foods are therapeutic. Like any medication, such foods should be prescribed by a veterinarian after a thorough examination of the animal. An inappropriately chosen therapeutic (or even preventative) food can be harmful to the pet. For example, Renal and Urinary. One is given for an acidic urine pH, the other, conversely, for an alkaline one. And if you prescribe them without a urine test, you can worsen the animal's condition.

Wow! Pedigree is an economy-class food. Dogs eat it for the flavorings—they're dietary, by the way. Sooner or later, everyone develops health problems. My little one can't even stand Royal and Proplan. We spent a long time choosing the right food. But Nau devours it so much, it's squealing behind her ears. The vet approved it, the dog is happy, and I'm at peace. Her health, activity, and digestion are all fine.

The rating is questionable. The quality of GO food has dropped significantly and continues to decline. I didn't like NOW from the start; all of my clients I trained switched to it. CANIDAE is no longer officially available, as is INNOVA. ACANA is a good food, but it doesn't suit many dogs, even leading to pancreatic failure; I've also experienced this. I really like Pronatut Holistic and Holistic Blend. Blend is practically organic, but its downside is the very limited product line.
Sergey
And what is the justification for, for example: “I didn’t like NOW from the start, and all of my clients whom I trained left him”???
Alexey
Have you ever tried Rollton yourself? Or you could indulge in some Doshirak... You'll be energetic, but only until your body's own reserves are used up. Otherwise, yes, it's fine.
