Composition and action of the drug

Drops for dogs Prazicid-complex contain three active ingredients:

  • Ivermectin. This organic compound, produced by the microorganism Streptomyces avermitilis, has acaricidal, insecticidal, and nematodicidal properties. It disrupts the intracellular balance of the worm or insect by blocking the movement of chloride ions, resulting in the death of the parasite.
  • Praziquantel. A highly effective anthelmintic agent. Its mechanism of action involves increasing the permeability of parasite cell membranes to ionized calcium. This causes spastic contractions of the parasite's muscles, eventually leading to paralysis.
  • Levamisole. It has high nematocidal activity, acting on the parasite's neuromuscular system, inhibiting the formation of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which serves as an energy source for biochemical processes.

Dog and children

The drug contains the following additional components:

  • hydrophilic base PEG - (Polyethylene glycol);
  • bacteriostatic preservative - Benzyl alcohol (Phenylcarbinol).

When applied locally, the active ingredients enter the intestinal mucosa through the bloodstream and destroy helminth parasites; parasitic insects die upon contact with the drug on the dog's skin.

Based on its effects on the body, Prazicid Complex belongs to Class 3 substances (moderately hazardous). It does not cause any irritating or toxic effects when applied to the skin, but may cause moderate biological sensitization (irritation) when applied to mucous membranes.

Price

Prazicid-Complex is available in dropper ampoules packaged in transparent blisters. It can be purchased at a veterinary pharmacy or specialty store without a prescription. The price of Prazicid-Complex for dogs depends on the size of the dropper, calculated for a specific animal's weight, and the concentration of the active ingredients. It ranges from 230 to 1,300 rubles.

Method of administration and dosage

Prazicid-Complex drops are applied to the skin between the shoulder blades or on the withers of dogs. To do this, break off the tip of the single-dose dropper and squeeze out the entire contents.

For the treatment of skin parasites, drops are applied with a swab to the affected areas, previously cleaned of scabs. The product should be applied by covering a small area of healthy skin. Treatment is repeated every six to eight weeks until the animal is confirmed to have recovered.

Cleaning a dog's ears

To treat otodectosis, drops are applied to the ear canal after it has been cleared of exudate and crusts. If ear mites are accompanied by otitis, the dog is additionally prescribed anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial therapy.

After applying the product to the skin, it's recommended to put a muzzle or collar on the dog for half an hour to prevent it from licking the medication. Bathing should be done no sooner than 24 hours later.

The dosage required for treatment is specified in the instructions for use of Prazicide Complex for dogs. Depending on the animal's weight, it is:

Reviews

Liliya Igorevna Storozhenko, veterinarian:

"I consider Prazicid Complex for dogs to be a good and affordable antiparasitic treatment. Its advantages include its effectiveness in preventing and treating intestinal and skin parasitic diseases, as well as its packaging, which ensures precise dosing and a well-chosen composition of ingredients—they complement and enhance each other's effects. It's also important to note that parasites don't develop tolerance (addiction)."

Natalia, Syzran;

"We have a two-year-old foxhound. We treat it regularly for parasites. We bought Prazicid Complex for dogs. It provides 100% protection. It's inexpensive and easy to use—I simply apply the drops to the dog's neck, parting the fur. It absorbs quickly, but it does have a strong, rather unpleasant odor. The instructions say that children should avoid contact with the dog for 24 hours after treatment. Our son doesn't—he smells really bad, and he can only be bathed a day after treatment."

Ivan, Pskov:

"A year ago, we got a golden retriever puppy. At first, we used expensive imported products to treat intestinal and blood-sucking parasites. Then we read about Prazicid Complex for dogs on a forum, and the reviews were good. Dog owners praised both its effectiveness and its low cost (the price is low because it's domestically produced). At the pet store, they told us it was the best combination product on the market, and that it also provides immune support. We've been using these drops for a year now, and we're happy with the results: one treatment, and we're confident our pet won't bring home any worms or ticks."
