Prazitel for dogs
Prazitel is an anthelmintic medication for dogs, available in several pharmaceutical forms. It has a broad spectrum of activity and is therefore used to combat tapeworms and roundworms and prevent their recurrence. Its high effectiveness is achieved through three active ingredients, each with its own unique action on parasites. Before using Prazitel suspension or tablets for dogs, carefully read the instructions.
Content
Composition and release form
The following substances have a detrimental effect on internal parasites:
- praziquantel;
- pyrantel pamoate;
- fenbendazole.
The drug is available in several forms, allowing you to choose the most suitable option for your pet, depending on their age and weight.

Suspension
The suspension is available in two versions (differing in composition and purpose), so it can be used effectively and conveniently for pets of various sizes.
To ensure safety for puppies, the medication is formulated without fenbendazole. Each ml of the light-yellow or cream-colored liquid contains 3 mg of praziquantel and 30 mg of pyrantel pamoate. The concentration of active ingredients in the suspension intended for large pets is significantly higher. The amount of praziquantel is increased to 50 mg, and the amount of pyrantel pamoate is increased to 140 mg. Fenbendazole (100 mg) is also included. The medication also contains sweeteners, purified water, and other excipients.

In both cases, the suspension is packaged in glass or polymer vials. It always comes with a syringe-type dispenser, which greatly simplifies measuring the required dose.
Pills
Like the suspension, tablets are available in two versions:
- Prazitel Plus can be used for dogs of various weights and ages (from 2 weeks). Each tablet contains 50 mg of praziquantel, 100 mg of fenbendazole, and 140 mg of pyrantel pamoate. Excipients include lactose, starch, gelatin, and other ingredients.
- Prazitel for cats and puppies is more gentle and is therefore recommended for small pets. Each tablet contains 5 mg of prazitel and 50 mg of pyrantel pamoate. The excipients are the same as those in the product more commonly used for adult cats.
The tablets are packaged in packs of 2 to 10 tablets and always include instructions for use.

Pharmacological properties
This anthelmintic is used to combat various types of internal parasites. Its unique feature is its triple action on worms. It has a negative effect on parasites regardless of their stage of development or type, thanks to three active components:
- Praziquantel increases the permeability of cell membranes. They become permeable to calcium, and excessive accumulation of this element in cells leads to muscle contractions. This is usually accompanied by seizures, which eventually leads to paralysis and death.
- Pyrantel pamoate disrupts the nervous system. Due to depolarization of nerve connections, the transmission of nerve impulses becomes impossible, which subsequently leads to the death of the parasites.
- Fenbendazole is unique in that it affects not only adult worms but also larvae and eggs. It works by disrupting energy metabolism, preventing ATP synthesis. The substance kills the worms.
From the gastrointestinal tract, the active ingredients are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed throughout the body. The components are eliminated within 2 days through feces and urine.
Indications for use
Prazitel is used to treat the following pathologies:
- for nematodoses caused by roundworms;
- for cestodiasis caused by tapeworms;
- with opisthorchiasis;
- in mixed invasions.
The drug is also used to prevent worm infestations. Prevention begins after the animal reaches two weeks of age. To protect against worms, the drug should be administered once, but regularly, quarterly. Administration is also recommended before vaccinations and mating.

It is especially important to take preventative measures in a timely manner if there are children or other pets in the house.
Instructions for use
The medication should be administered to your dog before the morning feeding, regardless of the dosage form. The suspension is mixed with a small amount of food. If the animal refuses to drink the liquid in this form, more drastic measures are used. Force the required amount of suspension into the mouth. Make sure it reaches the back of the tongue, otherwise the pet may spit it out. Shake the bottle well, as the liquid tends to separate.
The tablets are hidden in food, such as ground meat or a piece of meat. If necessary, they can be crushed to make them easier to disguise. You can also force the tablets into the animal's mouth. Place them on the back of the tongue to prevent the pet from spitting them out.

The dosage of the medication is calculated based on the pet's weight and the chosen form of the drug:
- For puppies and small-breed dogs, administer a suitable suspension (at a low concentration). 1 ml of the medicinal liquid is required per kilogram of body weight. Due to its weaker effect, it is not suitable for larger pets.
- When using a suspension for large and medium breeds, 1 ml of medication is required for every 10 kg of body weight. It is recommended for pets weighing over 10 kg.
- Prazitel tablets for puppies are given at the rate of one pill per 1 kg of weight.
- For larger pets, Prazitel Plus is recommended. To calculate the correct dosage, take one tablet for every 10 kg of body weight. It is recommended not to administer this form of the drug to animals under 10 kg, as it will be very difficult to accurately calculate the dosage.
Taking the anthelmintic requires no special preparation. There's no need to starve the animal, put it on special diets, or "feed" it laxatives. If the medication is used for therapeutic purposes, the procedure is repeated after 10 days, if necessary.
Even if you take preventative measures in a timely manner, you still need to get tested 2-3 times a year.
Contraindications and side effects
You should not use anthelmintic drugs:
- up to 2 weeks of age;
- for exhausted animals;
- for pets that have undergone surgery or serious illnesses;
- within 14 days after birth;
- in the first half of pregnancy;
- in case of individual intolerance.
The drug should not be taken together with piperazine due to the risk of increased toxicity.
The medication does not cause side effects unless the dose is exceeded. Only allergic reactions may occur. If a larger dose is ingested, the following symptoms may occur:
- increased salivation;
- gastrointestinal tract disorders, which may manifest as vomiting or diarrhea;
- depressed state and apathy.

Symptoms usually resolve on their own and require no specific treatment. If your pet's condition does not improve, consult a veterinarian. They will prescribe symptomatic treatment. Measures to accelerate the elimination of the drug from the body may be necessary.
Price
How much does this medication cost? Prazitel for dogs is affordable for almost all owners:
- a suspension intended for puppies will cost 220-240 rubles (bottle volume 20 ml);
- for a suspension for large dogs you will have to pay 280-300 rubles per 10 ml bottle;
- tablets for puppies and kittens cost 75-95 rubles (2 pcs.);
- Prazitel Plus will cost 220-250 rubles for 6 tablets.
Owner reviews
Oksana, owner of a French bulldog:
"I regularly use Prazitel Plus suspension for worm prevention. We first used it before vaccinations, as recommended by the veterinarian. I'm pleased with the results. It doesn't cause any side effects, and most importantly, our pet eats it with great pleasure, even with ground meat. I recommend it to other dog owners."
Ulyana, the dachshund's owner:
"Our dog's eating became very poor. After tests, worms were discovered. The doctor prescribed Prazitel suspension. We mixed the medication with her food. The dachshund was reluctant to eat it, but she ate it anyway. Within a few days, her appetite and activity returned. A follow-up test showed no worms."
Mikhail, owner of a yard dog:
"Two days after my dog drank water from a dirty puddle, he began vomiting heavily. We bought Prazitel tablets at the pharmacy. They passed two large worms. Afterwards, his condition improved."
Veterinarian Reviews
Sergey, veterinarian:
"Prazitel does a good job of killing worms. I can tell you this from my own experience. Its broad spectrum of action is an advantage, but it comes at the cost of strong impact on the liver. To reduce the negative impact, liver support medications are prescribed along with the anthelmintic. It's important to take the medication correctly and use the appropriate concentration."
Valentina, a veterinarian with 15 years of experience:
"Prazitel is a good anthelmintic. Its advantages include its low price and several dosage forms (you can choose the right one depending on your pet's weight). Overdosing can cause serious side effects, so it's important to strictly adhere to the dosage. I don't recommend using Prazitel without consulting a doctor. Personally, I often prefer foreign medications for treating helminthic infestations, for example, Caniquantelu".

After using this drug, we consulted a veterinarian regarding our dog's prolonged heat cycle and poor health. We performed a uterine ablation, which revealed live roundworms. The drug is obviously not harmful to all species.

In such cases, you should immediately contact a veterinarian. Intestinal anthelmintics are completely unsuitable for treating other organ damage. This is prescribed EVERYWHERE. If you don't know how to properly analyze information, don't Google it—it won't help! When in doubt, always consult a specialist!

I give my little dog Prazitel suspension directly into his mouth using a special syringe that comes with the drug. It's convenient.
