Platinum dog food
Some time ago, Platinum dog food was known primarily within the narrow circles of professional breeders. However, in a relatively short period of time, it has gained widespread popularity among ordinary dog lovers, as evidenced by various forums where pet owners actively discuss this brand's products.
Platinum brand products are positioned as a new generation of super-premium dog food—holistic diets. The manufacturer emphasizes that Platinum food is even better than holistic diets and offers a number of advantages. Among the key arguments that characterize these recipes are: holistic class – this is the use of fresh meat in the amount of 70%, the use of a unique technology for the product’s production, as well as the compliance of the ingredients with the requirements allowing them to be used for human consumption (raw materials “Human Grade”).

Manufacturer
In 2004, a professional German breeder and one of Germany's leading pet food specialists decided to join forces and founded Platinum GmbH & Co. KG in Bodenheim, Mainz-Bingen. The company's primary goal was to create dog food that mirrored the diet of their ancestors—wolves. It should be quickly and easily digestible and comprise fresh meat and high-quality ingredients, thereby ensuring the well-being of the animal and a long, healthy life. The company's entire philosophy is rooted in the idea of returning to a pet's basic nutritional needs, which is only possible with an understanding of the dog's digestive system as a carnivore.

The company's production facilities are located in Bell-lloc d'Urgell, Spain, and Bingen am Rhein, Germany. All products are certified by the international organization TÜV Rheinland, which confirms not only the manufacturer's compliance with all manufacturing standards but also the accuracy of the information on the packaging and the actual product inside.
Assortment
The Platinum brand offers only four types of food. This manufacturer does not offer special menus for specific breeds or diets for aging pets. A special formula is available only for puppies.
The reason for this decision lies not in a lack of resources, but in the manufacturer's philosophy and the technology behind their food. Each kibble in these diets is prepared in such a way that it can be easily consumed by both the smallest and the largest dogs. Arguing that in the wild, dogs eat the same diet, regardless of age and size, the company has created recipes that meet the needs of all dogs:
- Puppy Chicken is a food for puppies and growing pets. Recommended for animals up to 12 months of age. The chicken and rice-based recipe contains animal and vegetable fats, as well as various beneficial additives. Protein content is 27%, fat content is 16%.
- Adult Lamb + Rice is a food for dogs of all breeds and ages. It contains lamb and rice, cold-pressed oils, a blend of medicinal herbs, and a vitamin and mineral complex. It is suitable for pets with food allergies as it is gluten-, soy-, and GMO-free. It contains 24% protein and 14% fat.
- Adult Iberico + Greens – Iberian pork with greens – is designed for adult pets of all breeds and ages. This gluten- and grain-free recipe features fresh Iberian pork, with potatoes used instead of grains. Ingredients also include fish oil and vegetable oils, vegetables, mussel extract, and a variety of medicinal herbs. Protein content is 23%, fat content – 14%.
- Adult Chicken is a chicken diet for pets over one year old, suitable for all breeds. This menu is based on fresh poultry, rice, and corn. It includes a variety of functional additives to support pet health. The protein and fat balance is 26% and 16%, respectively.

The Russian distributor's product range includes only Platinum dry food and treats. The English-language Platinum website also offers a line of wet food in Mini (100g) and Standard (375g) packaging, available in four flavors:
- Fish + Chicken – tuna and sardines with chicken;
- Turkey + Salmon - turkey with salmon;
- Pure Fish - trout, tuna and sardines;
- Chicken – chicken with rice and vegetables.
Each canned product contains at least 83% fresh meat or fish, is easily digestible, and is cooked exclusively in its own juices. The manufacturer also emphasizes the absence of attractants, flavorings, colorings, or odor and flavor enhancers.

Compound
The composition and quality of ingredients are always the primary criteria when evaluating food. A key feature of Platinum's composition is the inclusion of at least 70% fresh meat in each ration, as well as the use of a special production technology. This technology preserves the meat's juices in the kibble, as it is prepared without added water at a relatively low temperature. This makes the kibble juicier and more delicious for your pet.
Let's look at the ingredients and analyze them using Platinum Adult Chicken as an example—one of the most popular in the Platinum line of diets for adult animals.
Key Nutrient Values:
- Protein – 26%;
- Fat – 16%;
- Ash content – 7.9%;
- Fiber – 2%;
- Humidity – 18%;
- Calcium – 1.5%;
- Phosphorus – 1%.
All values, except moisture, are within normal limits and are optimal for the daily diet of most pets. Most commercial dry diets have moisture levels between 9-12%, but this one reaches a whopping 18%. This figure is due to the unique technology the company uses in producing pet food.

Let's look at the first five ingredients in the composition:
- Fresh chicken meat – 70%;
- Ground rice;
- Corn;
- Poultry meal (originally called “poultry meal”, the Russian distributor’s version is “poultry” – obviously a translation error here);
- Hydrolyzed poultry.
The entire ingredient list consists of 22 items, nine of which are herbs, their seeds, or plant extracts. The first five or six ingredients on the list are the key components, as they form the basis of the recipe.
The ingredients list further includes brewer's yeast, apple pulp, alfalfa, and salmon oil. Following these are yucca extract and cold-pressed vegetable oils (flaxseed and olive). Then comes green-lipped mussel extract, plus herbal infusion and potassium chloride.
The manufacturer only specifies the quantity of the first ingredient; the percentage of the remaining components remains unknown.
Squirrels
There are three products containing animal protein here: ingredients 1, 4, and 5. While 70% chicken meat seems like a pretty impressive figure, the finished product actually contains much less (about 22%). This is because raw meat contains a lot of water, which is lost during the cooking process.
However, fresh chicken meat is an excellent source of protein that is easily digestible, rich in beneficial amino acids, and is only heat-treated once.

Poultry meal is superior to fresh meat in protein content, but when the ingredient is vaguely labeled, its credibility is significantly diminished. Most often, such meal is made from poultry tissues unfit for human consumption, meaning it's made from cheap and low-quality raw materials.
The fifth ingredient listing is for hydrolyzed poultry. This powder is obtained through a multi-stage, intensive processing of raw materials and has a very strong aroma (used as a natural flavoring). However, if it's listed among the main ingredients, it's likely added in significant quantities to the formula. The generic term "poultry" can cover any number of raw materials, and it's most often found in low-priced foods.
Fats
The diet contains both animal and vegetable oils. Salmon oil is extremely beneficial for the body, promoting healthy skin and coat and helping prevent heart disease. It's rich in Omega-3, DHA, and EPA. Cold-pressed flaxseed and olive oils are among the best vegetable fats; their production technology preserves the maximum amount of nutrients.
Carbohydrates
There are two sources of carbohydrates in this menu: broken rice and corn. Broken rice is less nutritious than whole grain rice and is also considered a cheaper ingredient. Its nutritional value is not very high and it also has a high glycemic index. Corn is a grain of little use for dogs, and is most often used as a cheap filler in dog food. The presence of two grains in the top five ingredients is a sign of a low-quality dog food.

Other components
The contribution of the remaining ingredients is very minor, as all other additives are present in very small quantities and have virtually no effect on the product. It includes a fairly standard selection of herbs: chamomile, dandelion, milk thistle (seeds), and dried fennel. However, there are some additives rarely found in other brands; let's take a closer look at them:
- Green-lipped mussel extract is a natural chondroprotector that is much better absorbed than synthetic alternatives. A storehouse of glycosaminoglycans, which promote musculoskeletal health, it supports the function of ligaments and joints.
- Sarsaparilla root is rich in rare substances—phytosteroids and saponins. It has anti-inflammatory, diuretic, and detoxifying properties.
- Dried artichoke is a favorite Italian delicacy. It contains a large amount of fiber and the prebiotic inulin, which has a positive effect on gastrointestinal function and promotes bowel movement.
- Nasturtium is a plant frequently used in both folk medicine and pharmaceuticals. It improves intestinal motility and is rich in vitamins C and A, as well as lutein. It has uroseptic, diuretic, and antiseptic properties.
- Potassium chloride is a safe additive used to ensure product uniformity. It is also added to feed as a natural vitamin K1, essential for blood clotting and calcium-related metabolic processes.

Reviews
Yulia Savenko, owner of a Yorkshire Terrier:
"I recommend Platinum dog food to all my dog owners, and I always leave reviews on forums, too. My Choco has been eating it for two years now. During this entire time, there hasn't been a single sign of illness or indigestion. His coat is fantastic, although before Platinum, he had a problem—it seemed like his coat was constantly dirty. A week after switching to this food, the problem disappeared."
Karina Trofimova, dachshund breeder:
"My beloved has been eating dry food for a long time, but I wanted to switch her to a higher-quality diet. Or rather, that's what our veterinarian recommended during a routine visit. I chose Platinum food, specifically the chicken-based one. My dog developed allergies and was upset, so I thought a lamb and rice food would be best for her. And I was right – after changing the menu, my Tasya started feeling much better, and her appearance also improved. That's all I need from a food!"
Alexey Ignatov, veterinarian:
"Over the course of my practice, I've studied numerous commercial pet diets. Recently, one of my patients asked my opinion about Platinum dry dog food. After reading reviews from fellow veterinarians online and then carefully examining the ingredients on the package, I concluded that this food is quite good and can be used as a staple diet for your pet. However, it's important to remember that corn in some of the foods can trigger allergic reactions in your pet. I would recommend gradually transitioning your pet to this food and monitoring their reaction."
