Indications for use
Otodectin has an antiparasitic effect and can be prescribed to any dog, regardless of age or breed. The drug is effective against:
- roundworms;
- worms that cause scabies;
- Vlas-eaters;
- lice.

The drug has a comprehensive action and the ability to destroy adult parasites and larvae, causing their paralysis. After injection, the active components enter the bloodstream and are distributed throughout the body. Any remaining medication is eliminated from the body naturally within 48 hours.
Please note: this is a low-toxic drug that does not accumulate in the excretory system and does not have any effect on the dog's internal organs.
Side effects and contraindications
Despite the safety of the drug, it has contraindications:
- exhaustion of the body and weakness of the animal;
- recent surgery or chemotherapy;
- the last stages of pregnancy and the postpartum period;
- animal age up to 2 months.
The medication should be administered with caution in cases of liver or kidney decompensation. Some dogs (e.g., bobtails or collies) are hypersensitive to the active ingredient. In these cases, constant monitoring by a specialist is required during treatment to prevent allergic reactions.
Please note: If there is a health risk, such as serious liver problems, it is better to stop treatment with Otodectin in favor of another medication.
Side effects may include a slight lump in the skin at the injection site, which resolves on its own within a few days. Additionally, the animal may experience vomiting, general deterioration in health, and loss of appetite. In this case, it is recommended to discontinue treatment and consult a veterinarian.
Admission rules
According to the instructions for use of Otodectin for dogs, the drug is intended for subcutaneous administration. No special diet or other preparation is required before starting treatment. Disposable medical syringes are used for injections, and the medication is administered subcutaneously to the dog.

A dog's body weight requires 0.2 ml of medication per kilogram. A single injection is sufficient to eliminate nematodes. If the dog's body is infested with ectoparasites, a repeat injection is recommended after 8 days.
Treating mixed infestations requires comprehensive treatment, including antifungal medications, antibacterial agents, and immunomodulators. In severe cases, the dosage of each medication is determined by a veterinarian; self-medication is prohibited.
If you have several pets, preventative injections will be required for all of them. The medication is administered not only to dogs but also to small animals (such as ferrets). For a more effective result, it is recommended to administer not only Otodectin but also vitamin supplements. These can be added to food, which will boost your pet's immunity and prevent relapses.
Special instructions for use
During therapy, it is necessary to observe antiseptic and hygiene standards. Sterile syringes must be used for injections; if the vial is damaged, the medication is not recommended for use. If you notice that the liquid has changed its clear color, has become cloudy, or has been frozen, use a different vial. Spoiled ampoules must be discarded.

Injections should be administered wearing rubber gloves. After the injection, wash your hands with soap. If the medication accidentally comes into contact with your skin or mucous membranes, rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid eating or smoking during the injection.
After the injection, a slight lump may appear on your dog's skin, which usually resolves without intervention. However, to minimize discomfort and pain, it's recommended to massage the treated area after the procedure. During the injection, remain calm and avoid speaking loudly to your pet, as this can cause unnecessary stress. Injections can be quite painful, so it's recommended to hold your dog and talk to them. After the procedure, it's a good idea to reward your pet with a treat.
Storage conditions and cost
The price of Otodectin for dogs is quite reasonable, making it affordable for any pet owner. The approximate cost is 65 rubles per bottle, with exact prices depending on your location and pharmacy pricing policies.
The expiration date is 3 years from the date of manufacture. It is recommended to store the product in the refrigerator, in a dark place, out of the reach of children. Do not store the bottle near food. Do not use the medication after the expiration date, otherwise it may not provide the desired effect and may cause side effects.

Pet owner reviews
Valentina, Nizhny Novgorod:
"Not long ago, my dog started scratching herself until she bled. Unsure what was going on, I took her to the vet. He diagnosed scabies and prescribed two Otodectin injections. Frankly, she didn't respond well to the injections; they were probably painful. However, after a couple of days, the symptoms began to subside, and then disappeared completely."
Svetlana, Moscow:
"My family and I went to the countryside for the summer, taking our dog with us. The result: fleas and worms. We consulted a veterinarian, who recommended Otodectin injections along with some vitamin supplements. The treatment was effective, and the dog is now completely healthy."
Oleg, Yaroslavl:
"My dog was diagnosed with worms. The doctor said pills wouldn't be effective and prescribed injections. I was worried about how my pet would tolerate the medication, but the treatment went well, and only two injections were needed. A small lump developed near the shoulder blade; I must have been careless when administering the medication."

"I've been working as a veterinarian for many years, and I can confirm that Otodectin is one of the most effective medications and rarely causes side effects. I usually prescribe it in combination with vitamin supplements or immunomodulators (for severe cases)."
