Actions and indications for use

Dogs' active lifestyles often lead to joint and spinal problems, as well as various bone and soft tissue injuries. These conditions can be acute or chronic, but are always accompanied by severe pain, inflammation, swelling, and other unpleasant symptoms. The nonsteroidal drug Norocarp can help relieve symptoms or reduce the animal's suffering.

Carprofen blocks the production of a substance involved in inflammation. It has the following effects:

  • relieves inflammation;
  • reduces pain;
  • lowers high body temperature;
  • eliminates swelling.

According to the instructions, Norocarp for dogs is used for joint destruction and other pathologies, occurring in chronic or acute forms:

  • for arthrosis;
  • for arthritis;
  • with coxitis;
  • for osteochondrosis;
  • for tendovaginitis, etc.

The medication is also prescribed:

  • in case of dislocations;
  • in case of fractures;
  • when stretched;
  • for other injuries;
  • for soft tissue bruises;
  • after operations;
  • for inflammatory processes of any nature.

Norocarp tablets for dogs should be used according to the instructions and only after consulting a doctor. The drug has contraindications and side effects in case of overdose, so if used incorrectly, it can worsen health problems.

The drug's main advantage is its rapid action. Peak concentrations are reached in just 1-3 hours. Once in the bloodstream, carprofen is rapidly distributed throughout the body. The half-life is 8 hours.

Instructions for use

The principle of treatment and use of the medication directly depends on the dosage form.

Injection solution

Injections are given for rapid pain relief in emergency situations. Subcutaneous or intravenous injections are administered according to the following schedule:

  1. To calculate the correct dose for the first injection, 4.0 mg of carprofen is required for each kilogram of the animal's weight. 1 ml of the prepared solution is sufficient for 12.5 kg of weight.
  2. If necessary, the injection is repeated after 24 hours, but the dose is reduced by half, that is, 2.0 mg of carprofen is needed per 1 kg.
  3. For further treatment, tablets are used.

It is prohibited to administer the medicine intramuscularly.

When administering the medication, use a sterile, disposable syringe each time, and adhere to all aseptic precautions. Please note that the solution from an opened vial can only be used within 28 days; after that, it must be discarded.

Pills

The daily dose is calculated as 4.0 mg of carprofen per 1 kg of body weight. For example, a 20 mg tablet is sufficient for a 5 kg animal. The daily dose is usually divided into two doses. Because the medication can irritate the gastric mucosa, it is recommended to take it after meals.

There are different ways to give medication to a dog:

  1. Crumble and mix the resulting powder with a small amount of food. It's best to choose your pet's favorite treats for this purpose. For larger dogs, whole tablets can be hidden in a piece of meat, chicken, or ground meat.
  2. Dissolve the crushed tablets in a small amount of boiled water. Inject the resulting suspension into the animal's mouth using a needleless syringe. This method is suitable for small pets.
  3. Force the tablet into the mouth by placing it on the back of the tongue. A special device can make this task easier.

If a dose is missed, resume the prescribed regimen as soon as possible. Your doctor will determine the exact dosage and duration of treatment. They will also provide detailed instructions for use.

After 7 days of treatment, the dose is halved, to 2 mg of carprofen per 1 kg of body weight. Long-term use of this medication is not recommended. Furthermore, it is used only to relieve symptoms, not to address the underlying cause.

After surgery, the medication is administered once. If necessary, the dose is repeated after 24 hours.

Contraindications and side effects

According to the instructions for use, Norocarp for dogs is classified as hazard class 3. When taken at the recommended dose, it does not adversely affect internal organs, does not cause mutations, or addiction. However, due to its strong effects, it is best not to use it in some cases.

Owner reviews

Margarita, the owner of a Newfoundland:

"When our Martin started limping, we went straight to the hospital. The doctor prescribed Norocarp. He told us that the domestic equivalent is Rimadyl"But he recommended an imported medication. We took it for six days, and the dog felt a little better and started playing again. But a month later, the situation repeated itself, so I think using the medication in our case was useless."

Boris, the Labrador's owner:

"When our Labrador was four months old, he started limping. The doctor diagnosed him with elbow sclerosis and prescribed Norocarp. He tolerated the medication well and felt better, but after a while, the condition returned. The medication relieves pain well, but it doesn't cure joint disease."

Veterinarian Reviews

Sergey, a veterinarian with 8 years of experience:

"I consider Norocarp to be a fairly strong pain reliever. I only prescribe it in emergency situations and after blood tests. I recommend using it in combination with Ranitidine to reduce its harsh effects on the gastrointestinal tract. I usually prefer it." Previcox".

Valentina, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:

"Norocarp is a strong medication that can cause serious side effects, including internal bleeding. I occasionally prescribe it as part of a combination therapy for herniated discs. My "patients" tolerated it well, but I've also heard some negative reviews."
