Nobivac Rabies for cats
Anyone who keeps a cat should understand that it needs vaccinations against infectious diseases, even if it rarely goes outside: viruses and bacteria can be brought into the apartment through food, dust on shoes, etc. One of the most effective and safest rabies vaccines for cats is Nobivac Rabies. It is manufactured by Intervet International BV (Netherlands).

How the vaccine works
To fight an infection, the body produces antibodies specific to a particular pathogen. It takes the immune system several days to create them. Upon re-encounter with the same infectious agent, the immune system no longer wastes time identifying the pathogen but immediately initiates antibody production, preventing the immunogen from reproducing.
An inactivated vaccine is a product containing inactivated, non-viable viruses. These viruses are unable to cause disease, but they stimulate the body to create defenses against it. The Nobivac Rabies vaccine causes cats to develop specific antibodies against the rabies virus, and if the animal comes into contact with a carrier, the body successfully fights them, preventing the disease from developing.
Composition and release form
The Nobivac Rabies vaccine is a yellow, pinkish, or crimson liquid with a small amount of sediment that dissolves easily when shaken. The vaccine is made from an immunogen (inactivated Pasteur RIV rabies virus with ß-propiolactone ester) and an adjuvant (the aliphatic amino acid glycine) that enhances the immune response.
The vaccine is packaged in 1 ml glass vials hermetically sealed with rubber stoppers and aluminum caps. Each vial contains one dose, equivalent to 2 IU of enzymatic bioactivity. One dose of Nobivac Rabies is sufficient to induce immunity to the rabies virus in cats within 21 days for three years. The price of a vial of Nobivac Rabies vaccine is 123 rubles.

The vaccine's shelf life, as stated in the instructions, is 24 months. Store it at a temperature not exceeding 8°C in a dry, dark place. After opening, the vaccine retains its immunomodulatory properties for 3 hours.
Rules of application
Cats can be vaccinated with Nobivac Rabies starting at 3 months of age, provided they are healthy. Unlike Nobivac Triket Trio, pregnancy is not a contraindication for Nobivac Rabies. If the vaccination was administered earlier due to an unfavorable epizootic situation, it must be repeated when the animal reaches 3 months of age. Routine booster vaccinations are administered every 3 years.
Approximately two weeks before your cat is scheduled for a rabies vaccination, be sure to deworm it. Existing worm infestations significantly reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine and prevent the development of active immunity.
The Nobivac Rabies vaccine is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously. The procedure is as follows:
- the bottle with the drug is shaken vigorously until a homogeneous emulsion is obtained;
- bending back the center of the aluminum cap, wipe the rubber stopper with alcohol;
- After piercing the bottle cap with a needle, transfer its contents into a syringe;
- the injection site is treated with alcohol;
- After removing air from the syringe, the drug is injected into a pulled-back skin fold on the neck or into the muscle located under the knee;
- The cat is kept under observation for 10-15 minutes.
The Nobivac Rabies rabies vaccine can be mixed 1:1 in a syringe with the Nobivac Lepto leptospirosis vaccine. Nobivac Rabies can be used with the Nobivac Tricat Trio vaccine against viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia, provided they are administered using separate syringes.

Contraindications, special instructions
Contraindications to the use of the Nobivac Rabies vaccine for cats are:
- age under 3 months,
- acute illness,
- an organism weakened as a result of illness or surgery.
Complications and side effects are rare when using the drug according to the instructions. In cases of individual hypersensitivity, the cat may develop an allergic reaction, which is usually treated with adrenaline.
Swelling at the injection site is not considered a complication; it resolves on its own within a few days. For 1-2 weeks after vaccination, the cat's body is somewhat weakened, so it should be protected from potential sources of infection.

Owner reviews
Elizabeth:
"I vaccinated my two cats against rabies myself. I bought Nobivac Rabies, which has lots of good reviews. I was a little worried about how my cats' bodies would react to the vaccine—they're already getting on in their teens. As recommended, I gave them the Parazitsid-Komplekt anthelmintic two weeks before the vaccination. Administering the vaccine was easy: the bottle contains one dose, so there's no risk of error. I injected it into the scruff of the neck, and judging by the cats' behavior, they barely felt any pain. Two weeks have passed, and my cats are healthy and acting as usual. I don't think there will be any ill effects."
Marina:
"I recently adopted a kitten from the street; he looked a little under a year old. I took him to the clinic to get a rabies shot first, and the rest of the vaccinations will follow later. Our vet used Nobivac Rabies, a vaccine considered one of the best. But a day after the shot, the kitten started vomiting and had diarrhea. The clinic said the reaction was due to his weakened immune system. We had to treat the kitten for a whole week for complications. I hope he'll be in good health the next time he gets vaccinated and there won't be any side effects."
Veterinarian Reviews
Petr Alekseevich, veterinarian:
All cats, both indoor and outdoor, need to be vaccinated. If your cat is constantly indoors, it's sufficient to vaccinate them with Novibak Rabies (for rabies) and Novibak Tricat Trio (for viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia). If your pet goes outside and may come into contact with other animals, it's also advisable to vaccinate them with Nobivac Bb (from bordetellosis)».
Margarita Stepanovna, veterinarian:
"Vaccinating cats against rabies is done not only to protect the cat from this terrible disease, but also to ensure the safety of its owner and family members—rabies is a zoonotic disease that affects both humans and animals. Like most of my veterinary colleagues, I consider the Dutch vaccine Nobivac Rabies to be the best vaccine for providing lasting immunity against the rabies virus for three years. It is made from inactivated (non-viable) virus cultures, is safe, and has virtually no contraindications. After vaccination with Nobivac Rabies, your pet will remain immune to the disease for three years, even if exposed to an infected animal."
