General description
NephroKat is a combination of royal jelly and a complex of medicinal herbal extracts. The medication is produced as small tablets. They are packaged in polymer jars with screw-on lids. Each jar contains 15 tablets.

When storing the medicine, the following “standard” conditions should be observed:
- keep away from direct sunlight;
- store at a positive temperature, but not above +25 degrees Celsius;
- Close the jar tightly with a lid.
It is advisable to keep the medication away from heat sources. Improper storage may affect the medication's pharmacological properties.
Composition and action
The pharmacological properties of NephroKet are largely due to its herbal components:
- Bearberry leaves have a diuretic effect and prevent the proliferation of pathogenic microorganisms.
- Knotweed prevents the formation of stones in the urinary tract. The plant also reduces inflammation and stops bleeding, and has a diuretic effect.
- Cranberry leaves have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties and also strengthen blood vessel walls.
- Lingonberry leaves not only prevent the proliferation of microbes in the urinary system, but also promote the removal of nitrogen from the body.
- Horsetail enhances the formation and removal of urine.
- The herb knotweed has anti-inflammatory properties and also has the ability to stop bleeding.
- The root of the horsetail prevents the development of urolithiasis, improves the drainage of urine, and also relieves spasms and pain, helping to restore smooth muscle tone.
- Woolly erva herb has a complex effect: it stops bleeding, promotes the elimination of salts from the body, reduces blood urea levels, and relieves spasms. It also has pronounced anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties.

One of the active ingredients of NephroKat is royal jelly. This substance has a beneficial effect not only on the urinary system but also on other organs of the animal. It has the following properties:
- relieves inflammation;
- removes toxic substances;
- promotes the restoration of liver cells and improves the functioning of this organ;
- improves immunity;
- lowers blood sugar levels;
- restores intraorgan pressure, etc.
Important! This medication is non-toxic. Its components do not accumulate in the body. It is not addictive if taken at the recommended dosage.
When is it applied?
NephroKat is prescribed to cats for various diseases of the urinary system:
- with pyelonephritis;
- with urethritis;
- for cystitis;
- with urocystitis;
- for nephritis;
- with pyelitis;
- with glomerulonephritis, etc.
Because the medication promotes the dissolution of stones and salts and prevents their recurrence, it is successfully used to treat urolithiasis. It can also be used to prevent recurrence of this condition. It is recommended to administer the medication periodically (only as prescribed by a doctor) to animals at risk of developing urolithiasis. This category includes neutered and spayed animals, as well as overweight and sedentary pets.

Indications also include the prevention of renal failure and elevated blood nitrogen levels. Since NephroKat relieves spasms and pain, it is successfully used to relieve urological syndrome.
Please note! Typically, medications with biologically active ingredients are used in combination with other medications. They are often used as an adjuvant treatment.
How to apply
NephroKat's action is not dependent on food intake. Therefore, the tablets can be administered to cats in a variety of ways:
- mix into food, after grinding it into powder (canned food and minced meat are good for this purpose);
- forcefully place on the root of the tongue.
The method of administering tablets depends on the animal's characteristics. Some pets are sensitive to the smell of tablets and therefore refuse to eat medicated food. In this case, the medication will have to be administered forcefully. The main thing is to ensure that the pet swallows the medication and does not spit it out.

The instructions for use indicate that the NephroKat dosage for cats is fairly easy to calculate. One tablet is sufficient for every 10 kg of body weight. Small pets are typically given a quarter or half tablet, but the dosage should be calculated by a veterinarian. The tablets should be administered once daily. Treatment duration is 10-14 days, depending on the severity of the condition. If the medication is used prophylactically, courses should be repeated every 2-3 months.
Restrictions
The drug is generally considered safe for pets, although there are some restrictions on use. NephroKat should be discontinued if your pet has acute renal failure or is intolerant to herbal ingredients or royal jelly. Allergies may occur in these cases. Although rare, these can manifest in a variety of ways, from digestive problems to skin reactions. NephroKat does not cause any other side effects.

For cats during pregnancy and lactation, the medication can be administered after a veterinary examination. The veterinarian must monitor the animal's condition during treatment.
Advantages and disadvantages
NephroKat has many advantages:
- It is highly effective therapeutically, as its herbal ingredients provide a comprehensive effect. The medication eliminates the symptoms of the condition and addresses the underlying cause.
- Compatible with antibiotics, painkillers and other medications.
- Since it is non-addictive, it is suitable for the prevention of kidney pathologies and other urinary system organs over a long period.
- It does not cause side effects and is well tolerated by animals, even with slight overdose.
- It has a minimum of contraindications.
- It has no hepatotoxic effect. On the contrary, it promotes the elimination of toxins and heavy metals from the body.

Price
Another advantage is its affordability. NephroKat is sold in almost all veterinary pharmacies. One bottle costs 250-290 rubles. You can also order the medication online from a pet pharmacy. A prescription is not required.
The drug has no significant disadvantages.
Owner reviews
Ekaterina, owner of a 5-year-old Siberian cat:
"I noticed Vaska was constantly hanging around the litter box, but he couldn't relieve himself properly. He'd squeeze out a couple of drops and then go, only to return 10-15 minutes later. An examination revealed urocystitis. NephroKet was given along with other medications, so it would be unfair to claim that it was solely responsible for the recovery, but the cat quickly recovered. The main drawback is the dosage form. Getting my Vaska to take a pill is a real challenge. Injections are better."
Lyudmila, owner of a Siamese cat:
"We were prescribed this medication to prevent urolithiasis. The disease first manifested itself when our cat was six years old. Six months later, it relapsed. Then we moved to another city and relapsed again. Only this time, we went to a different clinic and a different doctor. He recommended taking royal jelly tablets every two months as a preventative measure. We've been following this recommendation, and the disease hasn't recurred for two years now. However, the cat's diet has also been significantly changed."
Veterinarian Reviews
Dmitry, a veterinarian at a Moscow clinic:
"NephroKat is an excellent remedy for cystitis, urolithiasis, and other urinary tract conditions. I usually prescribe it as part of a combination therapy. I once conducted a simple experiment and noticed that animals recovered faster when treated with this medication. And the cost is quite reasonable."
Valentina, a veterinarian with 6 years of experience:
"I'm wary of herbal remedies, including NephroKet. I don't use it in my practice. However, many clients and colleagues have spoken positively about this medication. In any case, it certainly won't cause any harm. Safety is its main advantage."

Good afternoon. I have a British shorthair cat. He has kidney and liver failure. The vet prescribed Renal Advance, but he doesn't take it well. Is there an alternative?

Hello! You can only replace it with another brand, either super-premium or holistic, but it must be from a therapeutic line. However, in addition to the food, your pet has likely been prescribed supportive therapy to improve organ function (medications). Blood chemistry monitoring is essential to monitor kidney and liver function, so you don't miss any deterioration if it occurs (knock on wood). Try trying another brand, maybe you'll like the taste. If you don't like the dry food, replace it with a wet one. And vice versa.
