Mondioring for dogs: what it is, description, and rules

Mondioring is a popular dog sport that combines obedience training, protection elements, and a variety of athletic exercises. In this article, we'll cover in detail the origins of this relatively new discipline, the rules established by the RKF and other clubs, the competition process, and the proper steps to begin training your pet.

Features of the discipline

Service dog training is carried out worldwide. Various clubs regularly hold competitions to identify the best specimens with excellent working qualities. However, throughout these competitions, dog breeders from different countries face a serious challenge: rules and regulations often differ significantly, making preparing a pet for international competition a challenging task.

The dog discipline of "Madering" was developed by cynologists in three European countries: Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The phrase itself translates as "world ring," denoting the international format of the competition.

What is Mondioring for dogs?

Initially, the training program was based on a combination of the best methods used by French, German, and Dutch dog trainers in working with service dogs. The main goal was to ensure that the dog flawlessly obeyed its owner's commands, despite a variety of distractions.

Competition format

Mondioring for dogs is not just a classic obedience competition with a wide range of tasks, because dogs in the ring will have to demonstrate:

  • clarity of execution of commands;
  • discipline;
  • endurance;
  • strong grip;
  • the ability to concentrate on the owner and the task at hand;
  • willingness to protect the owner;
  • endurance.

Mondioring competitions are often held during busy festivals and holidays, so the dogs in the ring will be surrounded by many people, loud noises, and unfamiliar smells.

The order of the participants' performances is determined by a draw. Each dog must complete tasks from three main blocks without interruption, taking into account the chosen difficulty level.

Depending on the chosen difficulty level, some of the test conditions, the standard itself, and the criteria for evaluating the dog's performance change.

On Level 1 Anyone can qualify. Beginners are offered simpler tasks, and the entire in-ring performance takes about 15 minutes.

On Level 2 There are also no restrictions on who can participate. The difference lies in the difficulty of the tasks and the length of the presentation, which can last up to 30 minutes.

To participate in the competition 3 levels one of the conditions must be met:

  • Get 160-200 points in Level 1 competitions 2 or more times;
  • Get 240-300 points in Level 2 competitions 2 times or more.

Important! Training a dog to the next level is at the owner's discretion. The dog can perform at one level for as long as desired until the owner determines the dog's ability is sufficient to advance to the next level.

There are also national and international levels of Mondioring competition. To qualify for the international stage, a dog must perform well at the national level.

Benefits of Mondioring

Many owners note that their dogs are more active during Mondioring training, thanks to the variety of activities offered. This discipline allows service breed dogs to:

  • proper training;
  • forming a strong bond between a person and a dog;
  • optimal physical activity for harmonious development;
  • mental stress to develop intellectual abilities;
  • emotional release, necessary for the dog's well-being.

Benefits of Mondioring

Naturally, Mondioring also has a number of disadvantages that are also worth keeping in mind:

  • If training is done incorrectly, the dog may be seriously injured;
  • Some dogs become more aggressive when trained to attack a real opponent;
  • A dog that is bold and active in the ring may be frightened by an attacker in real life, because the opponent in the ring never hurts the animal.

Where to start training

In large cities like Moscow or St. Petersburg, finding an experienced Mondioring trainer/instructor isn't difficult. However, if you live in the region and want to prepare your dog for the initial stage yourself or monitor its abilities to determine if this sport is right for them, you can use video tutorials available online.

Mondioring - where to start training

To begin, we recommend thoroughly studying the RKF rules outlined above and also searching for organizations that train dogs in this category. Without a mentor, there's a high risk of making mistakes in training your dog, which often take much more time to correct than teaching your pet everything necessary from scratch.
