Mastiet Forte for dogs
Mastiet Forte is an antibacterial medication. It was originally developed by the Dutch company Intervet for the treatment of mastitis in cows and other farm animals. Mastiet Forte is successfully used in dogs for the treatment of otitis and dermatological diseases.
Content
Composition and release form
The yellow oily suspension is packaged in polymer syringes. Each syringe contains 8 g of the drug—a single dose. A cardboard box contains 20 such syringes.

The medication is based on a complex of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory components. It includes:
- neomycin;
- bacitracin;
- prednisolone;
- tetracycline.
Liquid paraffin and magnesium stearate are excipients. They promote uniform distribution of the medication.
Where to buy and how much does it cost?
Mastiet Forte for dogs can be purchased at a veterinary pharmacy or online. The price of one syringe ranges from 110 to 145 rubles. Syringes are usually sold individually; it's not necessary to buy a whole package.
How it works
Antibacterial components have a detrimental effect on harmful microorganisms. Individual substances enhance each other's effects, resulting in high effectiveness.
Prednisolone is a corticosteroid. It quickly reduces inflammation and swelling. It is eliminated from the body in urine. According to the GOST classification, Mastiet Forte is classified as a low-hazard substance (Class 4). It is non-irritating to the local environment and has no adverse effects on the liver or other organs.
When indicated and how to use
Originally developed for the treatment of mastitis In cows, the drug Mastiet is indicated for dogs in the presence of other pathologies:
- otitis;
- dermatitis caused by infections;
- balanoposthitis.
Although the drug is considered safe, a veterinarian consultation is required before use.

The specifics of using Mastiet Forte for dogs depend on the disease.
Otitis
If the medicine is used to treat otitis, the following steps must be taken:
- Clean your ears of any dirt and scabs. It's best to use special lotions and cotton swabs or gauze wrapped around your finger. If you use cotton swabs, be very careful not to damage the eardrum.
- Squeeze the suspension from the syringe into the ear canal, then press and massage the ear to distribute the medication evenly. Treat both ears simultaneously, even if the ear infection is only present on one side.
- Perform the procedure once a day for 5-7 days. For chronic conditions, increase the number of treatments to two per day, and the course of treatment to 10 days.
In the video, a veterinarian shows how to properly clean a dog's ears.
Dermatitis
For dermatitis, squeeze the emulsion from the syringe onto the affected area and distribute evenly. Repeat the treatment twice daily. Continue treatment until clinical signs of the condition completely disappear, but for at least 3 days.
You can use the preparation as an application. Apply the suspension evenly to a gauze pad and then apply it to the affected area for 20-30 minutes. Repeat the procedure twice a day.
Balanoposthitis
Mastiet Forte is also effectively used to treat balanoposthitis in male dogs. If inflammation is detected on the penis, swelling, and purulent discharge appear, the contents of one syringe are carefully injected into the prepuce. To ensure even distribution of the medication throughout the penis, gently massage the area. One treatment is usually sufficient to resolve the condition.
Contraindications and side effects
Mastiet Forte is approved for dogs of all ages and breeds. Discontinue use if you have a history of intolerance to any of the ingredients. If your pet has not previously been treated with antibacterial medications containing similar ingredients, observe them closely during first use. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue treatment and administer an antihistamine. Consult a veterinarian if necessary.
Mastiet Forte should not be used to treat otitis in dogs with a perforated eardrum.

There were no cases of side effects, including overdose, recorded.
Storage and use rules
To ensure the medication does not lose its pharmacological properties, it is necessary to follow simple recommendations:
- Storage temperature should be from +2 to +25˚C.
- The medicine must not be frozen.
- The drug should be stored in a dry place protected from ultraviolet radiation.
- Animals and children should not have access to it.
- Mastieta Forte should be stored away from food and feed used for pets.
Pay attention to the expiration date. If it has expired, do not use the medication. The syringe containing the suspension should contain information about the production date, batch number, ingredients, and the markings "Sterile" and "For Animal Use." If this information is missing, do not use the medication.
The medication is considered safe, but you should wash your hands thoroughly after handling it. People with hypersensitivity should wear rubber gloves when handling it. If the medication comes into contact with mucous membranes, rinse them with plenty of running water.

The main advantages of Mastieta Forte include:

Owner reviews
Tatyana, the Labrador's owner:
"I've been using Mastiet Forte to treat my dog's ear infections for several years now. Our vet recommended it. When I bought it, I was unsure about the treatment, but within a couple of days, there was no trace of the inflammation. He used to suffer from ear infections frequently, but now it's much less frequent. I'm very grateful to the vet for recommending this medication."
Svetlana, owner of an 8-month-old Rhodesian Ridgeback:
"When our dog started shaking his head and constantly scratching his ear, we went to the hospital. The doctor prescribed Mastiet Forte. We used the drops for a week, and the dog improved significantly; he stopped scratching and being restless. However, after two weeks, the symptoms returned. We went to another doctor, who said the problem was a food allergy. It's a good medication, although it was originally developed for other purposes."
Andrey, the poodle's owner:
"Our dog suffers from ear infections once a year. We've been using Mastiet Forte for two years now. He tolerates the medication well. For complete relief of the symptoms, we only use it for 4-5 days. It's a good and affordable treatment."
Veterinarian Reviews
Vadim, a veterinarian with 6 years of experience:
"An excellent medication from a Dutch manufacturer. I often use it to treat ear infections. The drug is highly effective. In my practice, I have never encountered cases where its use was ineffective or ineffective. Furthermore, animals always tolerate the suspension well. I have not recorded any side effects."
Lyudmila, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:
"I've heard positive reviews from colleagues about Mastiet Forte for dogs, but I don't use it myself. There are a lot of ear drops on the market right now, so I don't see the point in prescribing a drug intended for treating mastitis in cattle."

Can Mastiet Forte be used to treat a dog's eye cataracts?
Daria is a veterinarian
Hello! Mastiet Forte is a medication for treating animals with mastitis! How do you plan to treat corneal opacity? Firstly, the dosage of the active ingredient is too high for a dog. Secondly, it's not suitable for use on the eyes. There are plenty of ophthalmic treatments available. But corneal opacity isn't easy to treat (the older it is, the less likely it is to restore corneal transparency). The cause of the opacity must be determined and, if possible, corrected. Could there have been an injury? Inflammation? Perhaps the animal is elderly?

Daria, I came across a video online in which a goat owner described in great detail how she used this product to cure a goat's cataracts. The goat had gone completely blind, and after using Mastiet Forte suspension, her vision returned. I have a 6-year-old male dog. There were no injuries. He has cataracts in both eyes. You can use glucose drops. Powdered sugar doesn't work.

Hello again. Powdered sugar used to be used to reduce swelling associated with conjunctivitis (it's finely dispersed and doesn't scratch the cornea, which is already inflamed). An isotonic glucose solution won't hurt either. But this is an ancient folk remedy, and it doesn't always help. It's much easier to buy ready-made medications from a pharmacy (thankfully, medicine has advanced greatly) and use ready-made eye drops. First of all, you need to have your eyes examined. It's definitely a cataract, or keratitis, or maybe just a cloudy lens (cataract).
