What influences the cost of a dog?
The price of a dog depends on its gender, age category (puppy, junior, adult or veteran), show class, titles of its parents, and the size of the litter.
- In a litter, girls usually sell for a higher price than boys.
- A puppy or junior will certainly cost more than an older dog.
- If the parents have won awards or at least participated in exhibitions, their offspring are valued higher.
- The price of a dog will be higher if its conformation fully meets the Fédération Cynologique Internationale standards for the breed. A puppy's show class is determined at 2-3 months of age. Show and breed class puppies, suitable for breeding and participation in shows, are more expensive. Pet class puppies are those without a pedigree or with breed-specific defects. These can be purchased much more cheaply, or you can find a small dog like this as a gift through an ad.
The number of puppies in a litter also affects the price. Mating and caring for the mother during pregnancy require certain expenses. It's only logical that if fewer elite puppies are born, the price per litter will be higher.
