A small dog with big ears
When people want a companion animal, they usually buy a cat or a dog. Small dogs with large ears are very popular; their unusual and very cute appearance is endearing, evoking a desire to cuddle this charming creature. We suggest you take a look at these dog breeds.
Dogs with large erect ears
- Chihuahua. This is one of the most famous decorative dog breeds, and is also the smallest: this dog stands no more than 20-25 cm tall and weighs no more than 2 kg. Originally from South America, the Chihuahua's wild ancestors were domesticated by the Toltecs, the Indians who lived in Mesoamerica. Representatives of the breed are distinguished by their high activity level, agility, and resilience. The Chihuahua's courage is astonishing: it is always ready to defend its owner, regardless of the size of the "potential offender."

- Russian Toy (Russian Toy Terrier). In the Middle Ages, this breed was used primarily for hunting rodents. Today, these tiny, 20-28 cm tall, graceful and slender bodies, energetic and playful terriers serve as companions for glamorous ladies.
- Papillon. A variety of toy spaniel that, unlike another small, large-eared breed, the Phalène, has erect ears rather than floppy ones. Adults measure 20-28 cm, with a silky, long coat. This toy breed is distinguished by its resourcefulness and highly developed intelligence (the Papillon ranks second in this regard), so with a little patience, this miniature dog can become the "leader" of the family.

- Chinese Crested. The breed's origins are not Chinese, but most likely Mexican or African. These iconic toy dogs come in two varieties: those with a completely hairy body and hairless, which have a veil-like, long coat only on the head, tail, and limbs. Color options include black, gray, chocolate, cream, and tricolor. Chinese Cresteds stand 25-30 cm at the withers and weigh approximately 5 kg. Representatives of this breed have a cheerful nature, are highly sociable, and are devoted to their owners.
- Prague rat. Bred in the Czech Republic, this dog breed is considered the smallest in Europe, reaching no more than 20 cm in height and weighing around 2 kg. In appearance, it is a miniature version of Doberman, but with large, comically protruding ears like a "real" Doberman. Within the family circle, the Prague Ratter is a friendly and calm creature, but is usually wary of strangers and unsociable.

Dogs with large floppy ears
- Shih Tzu. A very popular dog originally from China, known as the Chrysanthemum Dog. Its thick, satiny coat, which sticks up in all directions on its head, resembling a flower, is so long that it must be secured with elastic bands or the forelock trimmed. An adult Shih Tzu stands 25-30 cm tall, weighs up to 6 kg, and comes in black, white, chocolate, dark gray, or brindle on a black or brown background. Its temperament is even-tempered, friendly, playful, and affectionate. The Shih Tzu can be an excellent companion, willing to follow its owner anywhere and everywhere.

- Phalene. Another representative dwarf breed Toy Spaniels. The name "Phalene" is translated from French as "butterfly" due to the shape of the head with large with hanging ears, covered with long, wavy, beautifully flowing hair. Their coat is white with spots of various colors. These decorative dogs reach up to 25 centimeters at the withers and weigh up to 2.5 kg. The breed's special advantages include the Phalène's low shedding, as its coat lacks an undercoat. Compared to the Papillon, the Phalène is calmer in nature, and although it can be playful, it prefers to spend time on its owner's lap. With other pets, it tends to take a leadership position and can be aggressive toward other dogs.
- Bichon Frise. This small dog with large ears and thick, curly white fur looks like a toy come to life. Bichons stand only 28-30 cm tall but weigh a hefty 7.5 kg. This breed is friendly, playful, and very sociable, and is highly trainable, making them a wonderful companion for the entire family.
- Dachshund. With a long, muscular body, elongated muzzle, and very short legs, this dog is recognizable at first glance. The dachshund's homeland is Germany. Dachshunds are intelligent, hardy, and quite sociable, and get along well with other pets. Smaller varieties of this breed include the miniature dachshund (up to 21 cm tall and weighing approximately 5 kg) and the rabbit dachshund (10–15 cm tall and weighing approximately 3 kg).
