Maxidin for cats: instructions for use
Every responsible cat owner knows that their responsibilities include not only providing delicious food and ear scratches, but also monitoring their pet's health. Timely vaccinations can significantly help prevent many illnesses, but even vaccinations cannot protect your pet from all diseases. Unfortunately, domestic cats, just like us, are susceptible to such trivial ailments as a runny nose or conjunctivitis, not to mention more serious and dangerous diseases.
Modern veterinary medicine may not yet be the pinnacle of our dreams, but it is nonetheless rapidly developing, including in our country. New drugs are constantly being developed, scientific research is being conducted, and new veterinary medications are being released. A case in point is the Russian company Micro-Plus, which has created such unique medications as Gamavit, Fosprenil, as well as Maxidin, the effectiveness of which is confirmed by veterinarians and pet owners.

In this article, we will review Maxidin and explain in detail how and when it should be used.

Description and effect of the drug
This medication is manufactured by GamaVetPharm, a partner of Micro-Plus. This medication boosts immunity and is an immunomodulator.
To avoid using complex and poorly understood medical terms to describe this medication's action, let's put it simply: this medication increases the activity of specialized cells in the body (macrophages), which travel to the site of infection or inflammation and destroy foreign particles (microorganisms). Because of this ability, macrophages perform a protective function in the body, and Maxidin stimulates them. The instructions also state that the medication effectively fights viruses and activates the body's natural defenses.
The active ingredient in this veterinary medication is an organometallic germanium compound. Maxidin is a clear, colorless liquid and is packaged in 5 ml vials. Each package contains five vials. This medication is available in two different concentrations: 0.15% and 0.4%. This means that the active ingredient content per ml is 1.5 mg and 4 mg, respectively.
Instructions for use
The manufacturer states that the only contraindication is hypersensitivity to the drug's components. Otherwise, it is well tolerated by animals and does not cause adverse reactions. It can also be used to treat or prevent illnesses in pregnant or nursing cats. This product is approved for use in kittens aged two months and older, but only as directed and under the supervision of a veterinarian.
According to the instructions for use, Maxidin 0.4 is an injection solution. Its price is 2-2.5 times higher than Maxidin 0.15, which is intended for eye and nasal drops.

The injectable form of the drug is indicated as one of the tools for boosting immunity in the fight against:
- immunodeficiency;
- viral enteritis;
- panleukopenia;
- plague of carnivores;
- infectious rhinotracheitis;
- calicivirus;
- demodicosis;
- helminthiasis.
This drug is also used in veterinary medicine to treat dermatitis and hair loss in cats. It can also be used in combination with other medications and special supplements.
Dosage
The instructions for use of Maxidin 0.4 state that the drug is administered either subcutaneously or intramuscularly. Injections should be given twice daily. Treatment duration is two to five days. Measuring the correct dosage is easy: for a pet weighing up to 5 kg, the recommended dose is 0.5 ml, while for a pet weighing 10 kg, 1 ml is required.
Maxidin 0.15 is prescribed to cats as an immunomodulatory agent for corneal lesions, conjunctivitis, and rhinitis, which can be caused by infections or allergies. It is also indicated for pets with inflammation of the eyelids, iris, and choroid.

The instructions for the 0.15 drops dosage indicate that 1-2 drops should be instilled into each eye or nostril, two to three times daily, until the pet is completely cured. Treatment should not exceed 14 days.
Before administering the medication, be sure to carefully clean the animal's eyes or nose of any crusts, dirt, or other discharge.
Special information
It's important to note that if the liquid in the bottle has changed color, become cloudy, or contains foreign matter, it should not be used. Also, before use, ensure the bottle is intact and check the expiration date. If the medication is stored correctly, its expiration date is two years from the date of manufacture. Treating an animal with an expired medication is strictly prohibited!
Price
One package contains five bottles of Maxidin. You can buy the entire package or individually. Maxidin 0.15 drops: a single bottle costs 45-65 rubles, and a package costs 200-250 rubles.
The price of injectable Maxidin 0.4 for cats is 120-200 rubles per bottle and 590-630 rubles per package. Considering the average domestic cat weighs about 5 kg, one bottle is enough for a five-day course of treatment, making it relatively inexpensive.
This veterinary medication is purchased not only by owners of sick animals. It has proven itself so effective that many breeders use it as an excellent coat conditioner during show preparation.
