Magnusson dog food
Magnusson dog food, made in Sweden, is increasingly being featured at shows and in pet stores. This family business was founded about 60 years ago by a Swedish family who owned a Great Dane kennel. Their initial goal was to develop a high-quality, complete diet for their pets that would satisfy dogs' natural needs for a balanced diet. Thus, Magnusson Petfood was founded, and its products are now supplied to 16 countries, including Russia.
According to reviews, the main distinguishing feature of Magnusson products is that their dog food is baked in the oven, thus preserving the maximum amount of nutrients and beneficial substances. According to the manufacturer, their company is the only one in Scandinavia and one of only a few worldwide to use this technology.
Oven baking uses low temperatures and slow production speeds, but the resulting food is more palatable and appealing to pets, and there is no need to add artificial flavors.
Content
Assortment

The entire variety of Magnusson dog food consists of 9 items, which in turn are divided into two lines: Meat & Biscuit and Original.
The Meat & Biscuit series includes five types of food: for puppies, for adults with normal activity, for working dogs or those exposed to high physical activity, for overweight pets, and a grain-free option. It's more expensive, but its superior ingredients make up for it.
The Original category doesn't have a separate menu for puppies, but there is a diet (Naturliga) for dogs with food allergies or sensitive digestion. There's also a rather unusual diet called Blanda, which will be appreciated by fans of natural foods. It's a kind of instant porridge (just add water), to which the owner can add any meat and vitamins they wish.
Magnusson's Meat & Biscuit line of dog food often receives more positive reviews than the Original line. However, this doesn't mean the Original line is inferior to Meat & Biscuit—both are high-quality and considered super-premium.
Please note that Magnusson dog food does not have the usual breed-specific grading (small, medium, and large). According to the manufacturer, the special kibble texture of their food is suitable for any breed. The kibble is not as hard as most other brands and breaks into smaller pieces with gentle pressure. Therefore, even a small Yorkie or Chihuahua will be as comfortable eating as a Labrador or German Shepherd.
A rather modest selection of diets, in our opinion, can be considered a disadvantage of this brand. Owners don't have much flexibility when it comes to diversifying their pet's diet. However, judging by owner reviews, this doesn't discourage them from eating this food.
Feed composition
Next, we'll take a close look at the ingredients in Magnusson pet food—does it deserve to be considered a super-premium pet food?
General information
The company emphasizes that all ingredients used in its feed production are exclusively of Swedish origin. They are sourced from farms located as close to the factory as possible to reduce delivery times and eliminate freezing or the use of preservatives. The company also emphasizes that no hormones or growth promoters are used in raising livestock or poultry, as confirmed by various certificates.
Every Magnusson dog food, the ingredients of which we'll examine in detail, is beef-based. The main difference between the Meat & Biscuit and Original categories is that the former uses only fresh meat, while the Original category uses dried meat (more precisely, jerky).
Analysis of the composition of Magnusson Adult food
Let's analyze the composition of the Magnusson Adult Meat & Biscuit diet (for adult dogs with a normal level of activity).
Guaranteed nutritional value:
| Squirrels | 24% | optimal indicator |
| Fats | 12% | normal |
| Fiber | 2% | below average (although in the English-language source it is 3%) |
| Carbohydrates | 45.5% | permissible quantity |
| Ash | 6.5% | normal |
| Water | 10% | norm (again differences, 9% in the English version) |
It's immediately obvious that the ingredient list for all diets fits within two lines, and they're all simple and straightforward—reviews from regular breeders only confirm this. Do we consider this a drawback? Definitely not. After all, it's not always true that the richer the ingredients, the better the food.
The number one source of animal protein is fresh ground beef sirloin, at 44%. While it looks great at first glance, this figure will noticeably decrease after cooking.
Interestingly, in the English version of the recipe, the first ingredient is slightly different: fresh beef and pork make up 44%. In Russian versions, there's often no mention of pork at all.
Next comes whole wheat flour, egg (fresh), then 4% vegetable oil (from rapeseed), barley flour, and vegetables: carrots and dried potato pulp. Rosemary oil is also listed, along with a detailed list of vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients. There's no precise percentage data, making it difficult to determine how well-balanced the food is. This makes us skeptical of this brand's products.
The big picture
The general picture is as follows: Beef + eggs – protein; wheat + barley – carbohydrates; carrots + potatoes – fiber; canola oil – fat. At the same time, many manufacturers try to exclude wheat from their products, as it is one of the main allergens in dogs. We consider this ingredient a drawback.

We've compiled a selection of reviews of Magnusson dog food from both dog owners and veterinarians.
Reviews from dog owners
Below we've compiled the most representative reviews from dog owners about Magnusson food:
Yana, a golden retriever"My girl has never had any serious health issues. I just found out about the new food on a forum, and the website was so enticing that I decided to try it. We've been on it for about 6-7 months now, and there's nothing to complain about. I've only noticed that her breath smell has become less severe."
Nadezhda, two Chinese Crested cats"We got a sample of this food at a show. At first, I was surprised that the kibble wasn't greasy like other kibble, and seemed a bit dry. I gave it to my cats to try, and they ate it up without a hitch. Now I've picked up a small package. They're both very picky eaters, and it's been two months, so far, and they're happily crunching on it."

The overwhelming majority of reviews are positive. The only common comment is that the food is difficult to obtain and there are frequent supply shortages.
Veterinarian Reviews
Magnusson diets are not yet very popular among dog owners, so owners whose pets eat these diets rarely consult a veterinarian. Veterinarians' overall impressions of Magnusson diets are as follows:
- A good alternative to economy-class products, it contains no harmful additives and is a high-quality source of protein.
- Pets prone to allergies should be transitioned to this diet with caution. It's also important to keep in mind that every body is unique, so carefully monitor your pet's condition to determine whether the new diet is suitable.

The food consumption is impressive, especially for small decorative dogs. My wife feeds grain-free (we have a Yorkie with allergies) Grain Free, so one bag is 4.5 kg. It lasts for two months. The dog is doing well, and most importantly, my wife is happy, and it doesn't break the bank. Plus, the natural ingredients. We're happy.

I'm looking for like-minded people to help me understand Magnusson dry dog food and get it analyzed. I can't afford it myself. I have serious doubts about the manufacturer's claims, and the prices keep going up.
