The veterinary drug Quantum is a tablet for cats and dogs designed to eliminate various types of helminths. This product is produced by the Belarusian company "VIK – Animal Health," which has been operating in the veterinary pharmaceutical market for over 20 years. The medication contains ingredients that are highly effective in treating roundworms and tapeworms, the most common parasites in animals. Below are instructions for using Quantum for cats and dogs.

General description

Quantum anthelmintic for cats has a broad spectrum of action and helps eliminate the most common helminths: tapeworms and roundworms. Specifically, tapeworms, hookworms, toxocara, toxoscaris, multilocular echinococci, and alveococci.

The components of the drug affect parasites at all stages of life. This helps combat not only adult helminths but also their immature counterparts. Therefore, this medication is used as both a therapeutic and prophylactic agent.

The drug's active ingredients are mebendazole (100 mg) and praziquantel (50 mg). Additional ingredients include lactose, polyvinylpyrrolidone, cellulose, and potato starch.

Quantum is a round, white tablet with a yellowish tint for oral use, packaged in a blister pack. A single pack may contain 4, 6, 8, or 10 tablets. Packaging may include a cardboard box or a plastic jar with a lid.

Important! Only a veterinarian should prescribe medication.

Operating principle

Quantum for cats and dogs is a powerful anthelmintic medication that is effective against various types and forms of parasites. It is safe for animals and shows good treatment results.

Mebendazole, a component of the product, acts on cellular components through nematocidal and cestocidal actions. Mebendazole blocks the production of cellular tubulin and impairs glucose utilization in parasite cells. Furthermore, it inhibits ATP production, which has a detrimental effect on the functioning of the helminth's body.

Another component of Quantum, praziquantel, is a pyrazinoisoquinoline, which has damaging properties against parasite muscles. This substance is effective against various forms of mature and maturing helminths. Praziquantel is effective in eliminating the following common types of parasites:

  • Echinococcus tapeworm;
  • multilocular echinococcus;
  • sheep's brain, or multiceps;
  • beef tapeworm;
  • pork tapeworm;
  • cucumber tapeworm.

Praziquantel reduces the resistance of the helminth's cell membrane to calcium ions, leading to generalized muscle spasm in the helminth, which eventually leads to paralysis. This ultimately results in the death of the parasite.

The drug is well absorbed and begins to act quickly in the body. It is metabolized in the liver and kidneys and is eliminated through natural excretion (feces).

Indications for use

Quantum is prescribed for the treatment of various types of helminthiasis:

  • Nematodes (roundworms) can inhabit the gastrointestinal tract, muscles, liver, kidneys, eyes, and other organs. They enter the body through contaminated soil and water. Common examples include Ascaris, Toxocara, and Ancylostoma. They cause diseases such as oxocariasis and toxascariasis.
  • Cestodes (tapeworms). Infection occurs when cestode eggs enter the gastrointestinal tract through food or water. These parasites can spread beyond the gastrointestinal tract and invade other organs (liver, kidneys, eyes, etc.). Representatives include Dipylidium caninum and Taenia solium, which belong to the order Taenia, as well as Echinococcus granulosus and Alveococcus multilocularis. They cause diseases such as dipylidosis, taeniasis, echinococcosis, and uncinariasis.
  • Mixed types of helminthiasis.

Additionally, the medication can be used as a preventative measure.

Important! Any medications should be prescribed strictly by a specialist based on examination results. Self-medication can negatively impact your pet's health.

Owner reviews

Evgeniya Komarova:

"I use Quantum to prevent helminths in my cat. I have no problems with it. It doesn't cause any intestinal upset, fever, or other side effects. I use it about 1-2 times a year, since my cat lives indoors and never goes outside. During this time, I haven't seen any symptoms of helminthiasis. One tablet lasts 3-4 times (she weighs about 3 kg). It's a good product, and it's inexpensive."

Sergey A.:

"I first bought Quantum at the veterinary pharmacy before my cat's vaccination. Now I use it regularly for parasite prevention. It's easy to use and odorless. The tablet is easy to divide into several pieces and doesn't crumble. My cat ate it without any problems and didn't spit it out. We repeat the treatment every three months. She tolerates it well, and there are no changes in her behavior. Her appetite is unaffected, and her bowel movements are normal."

Veterinarian Reviews

Gennady Alexandrovich:

"This medication belongs to a group of anthelmintic agents. It is highly effective. It can be used for both treatment and prevention in animals of all breeds. No significant side effects have been observed with this medication. Occasional reactions, such as loose stools and/or vomiting, are possible, but resolve spontaneously within a short period of time. The medication can be used as an antiparasitic agent prior to vaccination."

Natalia Eduardovna:

"Quantum is the drug of choice for treating parasitic diseases in cats and dogs. It is effective and well-tolerated. As with any other medication, it is recommended to use it after consulting a veterinarian. It should also not be used too frequently (more than once every 2-3 months), as this can put undue strain on the animal's liver. For preventative purposes, indoor cats that do not have access to the outdoors should be given the medication every six months."
