Composition and release form
Quadricat is a two-component immunobiological preparation for the preparation of injectable solutions, consisting of a liquid suspension and a lyophilized powder. The liquid component, "Corifelin," is a highly dispersed oil system based on the protein fraction of the Herpesviridae virus and the antigen of the Feline calicivirus. The dry component, "Rabiffa-Feliniffa," is a homogeneous white mass obtained from cell culture fluids infected with inactivated Feline panleukopenia and Lyssavirus: Rabies.
The vaccine components are packaged in hermetically sealed glass vials, each containing a single dose of 1 ml. A box contains 10 or 50 doses. The Quadricat cat vaccine is available over-the-counter at veterinary pharmacies. A single dose costs 550–600 rubles. Store in a dry place at room temperature and have a shelf life of 2 years.

An expired vaccine, one that has become unusable due to improper storage (for example, freezing) or a broken packaging seal, is rejected and disposed of in accordance with the “Rules for the destruction of medicinal products that are not subject to further use” approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.
Biological properties
Vaccination with Quadricat promotes immunity in cats by simulating infection. The inactivated pathogens contained in the vaccine are not capable of causing disease, but they stimulate the animal's immune system to produce a response. If the same pathogen is encountered in the future, the body will not have to waste time creating a "defensive army" of T-cells and antibodies, as they are already present.
After the administration of the Quadricat vaccine, the cat develops immunity to the following diseases within 14-21 days:
- panleukopenia (feline distemper). The causative agent is parvovirus with single-stranded DNA, feline panleukopenia virus;
- Rabies. The causative agent is the neurotropic virus Rabies lyssavirus of the Rhabdoviridae family;
- viral rhinotracheitisThe causative agent is a DNA-containing virus of the Herpesviridae family;
- Calicivirus. The causative agent is feline calicivirus of the genus Vesivirus.
The immunobiological preparation provides protection to the animal for at least 12 months; the Quadricat vaccine does not have therapeutic properties.

Rules of application
Quadricat is used to vaccinate cats of all breeds; the single dose is standard, does not depend on the animal’s weight, and is 1 ml.
The injection solution is prepared by mixing the lyophilized and liquid components. Using a syringe with a sterile needle, draw up the Coryphelin vaccine, inject it through the stopper into a vial of the dry Rabiffa-Filiniffa vaccine, and shake the vial thoroughly until a homogeneous suspension is obtained.
The injection is administered subcutaneously in the shoulder blade or intramuscularly in the thigh. Quadricat can be administered concurrently with other immunobiological agents from the same manufacturer, Merial (for rabies or leukemia), but in this case, they are administered at different sites.
If the owner is vaccinating their cat at home, they must adhere to personal hygiene and safety precautions: avoid getting the vaccine on their hands, and wash their hands thoroughly with soap after completing the procedure.
Contraindications, possible complications
The Quadricat vaccine is only given to healthy cats after preventative deworming. The following cats are not eligible for vaccination:
- animals with acute diseases;
- pregnant cats or cats weakened by surgery or serious illness;
- kittens under 3 months of age.
Quadricat generally does not cause side effects or complications. A slight swelling may occur at the injection site, which resolves spontaneously within a few hours. In very rare cases, an allergic reaction may occur, requiring symptomatic treatment.

Substitutes
Merial has discontinued production of the Quadricat vaccine due to its transition to other veterinary product lines. Immunobiological products from the same company, Merial, can be used for vaccinating cats: against panleukopenia, calicivirus, and infectious rhinotracheitis. Purevax RCP, and from rabies - monovalent vaccine Rabizin for cats.
In addition, the following vaccines can serve as substitutes for Quadricat:
- Bioveta Biofel PCHR. Manufactured by the Czech pharmaceutical company Bioveta, the price of one dose starts at 250 rubles;
- Nobivac Triket. Manufactured by Intervet (Netherlands), a veterinary drug company, the price per dose is approximately 500 rubles.
Reviews
Alexandra, Rostov:
"We have two cats, one is 8 and the other is 4. We always vaccinate them ourselves. It's safer than waiting in line at the clinic next to sick animals. A couple of weeks before the vaccination, we deworm our cats with Inspector Total. We used Quadricat to prevent rabies, panleukopenia, calicivirus, and infectious rhinotracheitis; our cats tolerated it well, never having any side effects. This vaccine is no longer available; they say it's been discontinued. The vet said the best replacement would be the Purevax and Rabisin vaccine duo for cats, produced by the same French company as Quadricat, Merial."
Maryana, Saint Petersburg:
"We've had several cats over our 20-year marriage, and almost every time, veterinarians recommended Quadricat for their vaccinations. All the cats tolerated it well, felt well, ate with apatite, and remained active. None of our pets had a fever or allergies. Unfortunately, this vaccine is no longer available. We've switched to Nobivac Tricat. The vaccine is said to be effective, but it caused an allergic reaction in our Marusya—an itchy skin. We had to give her an antihistamine."
Marina Anatolyevna Zagorodnyaya, veterinarian:
"I consider Quadricat one of the best combination immunobiological drugs, both in terms of effectiveness and safety: it's painless to administer, doesn't affect the cat's behavior, and works flawlessly. It's a shame that Merial has discontinued its production: the last batch delivered to Russia expired in May 2017. As an alternative, I can recommend a combination of two vaccines from the same company, Purevax and Rabizin. However, you'll have to pay around 800 rubles for them, while Quadricat cost no more than 600 rubles."
