Dosage form and features
The manufacturer produces this medication as a sterile solution for oral administration. It is a brown liquid (may be light or dark). During storage, a sediment often forms at the bottom. When shaken, this sediment dissolves in the liquid, but makes it slightly cloudy.

The solution is packaged in glass vials. To maintain sterility, they are sealed with rubber stoppers and sealed with aluminum caps. Vials come in 10 and 16 ml capacities, although larger bottles are less common. Vials are packaged three at a time in cardboard boxes and include a dropper for measuring out the liquid.
To preserve the medication's pharmacological properties, no special storage conditions are necessary. The main thing is to keep unopened vials in a dry place, away from sunlight, at a temperature no higher than 25°C.
Please note! After opening, Kotervin can only be stored in the refrigerator (at a temperature of 2 to 8˚C) for no more than 7 days. This is because the product contains no preservatives.
Composition and action
Kotervin is a complex of infusions of medicinal herbs:
- Knotweed or bird's knotweed herb has a diuretic effect, relieves inflammation, strengthens the walls of blood vessels and promotes the passage of stones in urolithiasis.
- Bird's-foot knotweed contains silicic acid compounds, which promote stone dissolution, as well as tannins and flavonoids. These not only help reduce inflammation but also have a positive effect on overall kidney function.
- Horsetail contains a complex of beneficial substances that have diuretic and hemostatic properties. Furthermore, the plant suppresses the inflammatory processes that accompany urolithiasis and urological pathologies.
- The root of the field horsetail increases diuresis, and also restores the tone of smooth muscles and has an analgesic effect, relieving spasms.

Plant infusions contain silicic and other organic acids, flavonoids, vitamins, and tannins. This gives the preparation the following pharmacological properties:
- has a diuretic effect;
- relieves inflammation;
- stops bleeding;
- promotes the dissolution of kidney stones;
- removes salts from the body;
- reduces pain, spasms and other accompanying symptoms.
In terms of safety, Kotervin is classified as a low-risk drug, as it contains no chemical compounds, toxic components, or other hazardous substances. It is not capable of negatively affecting embryonic development, and its components do not accumulate in the animal's body. However, it is important to consult a doctor before use.
Price
How much does Kotervin for cats cost and where can I buy it? Compared to imported medications, the price is low. A three-pack costs between 240 and 320 rubles. If the disease is not advanced and there is no need to administer the medication into the bladder, one pack is enough for one course of treatment. The medication is readily available online, at veterinary pharmacies, and at pet stores.
When is it applied?
Kotervin is prescribed to cats for urological syndrome, which can manifest itself with the following symptoms:
- urinary retention;
- frequent urge to urinate;
- the presence of blood in the urine;
- loud meowing during toilet visits (due to painful sensations);
- swelling in the genital area, etc.

The medication is also successfully used to prevent recurrence of urolithiasis. It is also suitable for the treatment of this condition, which is common in cats over one year old. In this case, it is used as part of a comprehensive therapy and in combination with other medications.
Instructions for use in veterinary medicine
Depending on the pathology, Koterwin is given to cats according to the instructions in the following doses:
- When using the medication to prevent recurrence of urolithiasis, the daily dose is 2-4 ml. Further information on how many days to administer the medication is provided below. The medication is administered once daily for 5-7 days. The course should be repeated every 3-4 months.
- If the medication is used to treat a urological syndrome, a single dose is 2-4 ml. The medicinal solution is administered twice daily, and the course of treatment does not exceed a week. Sometimes the dose is increased, but only a doctor can make this decision.
- For urolithiasis (used only in the early stages), the dosage and treatment regimen remain the same as for urological syndrome, only the drug is combined with symptomatic therapy medications.
Here's how to use the medication. Kotervin is given to cats orally. The solution is poured directly from the bottle using the dropper (press three times) or administered to the cat using a teaspoon or a syringe without a needle. The medication can be diluted in a small amount of water or milk.

When administered orally, the medication is injected into the bladder. It's important that the solution be sterile, so it should be administered from a sealed bottle. 10-16 ml is injected at a time using a catheter, but only after the urine has been evacuated. The procedure is repeated every two days until the pet's condition improves. Only sterile catheter needles are used for this procedure to prevent infection.
Please note! Since kidney and urinary tract stones are most often formed due to poor nutrition, along with taking Koterwin for prevention, it is necessary to adjust your pet's diet. For example, we recommend using Urinary cat food
Contraindications and side effects
Although Kotervin is considered safe, it does have contraindications. It should not be used in cases of acute renal failure or individual intolerance to herbal ingredients. In other cases, the medication is not harmful to the animal's body, but a veterinarian consultation is required before using it on nursing or pregnant cats.

If used according to instructions, the medication does not cause side effects. In case of intolerance to the components, an allergic reaction may occur. The animal must be given an antiallergenic medication. If necessary, measures are taken to eliminate the components from the body and symptomatic treatment is administered.
Advantages and disadvantages
Kotervin's main advantage is its high efficacy, proven in clinical trials. These trials found that 90 of 120 cats experienced long-term remission from urolithiasis. The pets were not bothered by any unpleasant symptoms. Treatment with this herbal preparation was combined with antibiotics, painkillers, antispasmodics, and a strict diet.
Other advantages of Kotervin include the following:
- Made only from natural ingredients.
- Does not contain preservatives or chemicals.
- It has a neutral taste, no bitterness, and does not cause disgust in animals.
- There are virtually no contraindications.
- We combine it with other medications.
- Has a complex effect on the urinary system.
A clear drawback is that the herbal ingredients are unable to dissolve oxalates. Another downside is that Kotervin must be refrigerated after opening, and only for 7 days. To remember when the package was opened, it's recommended to leave a sticker on the bottle. Furthermore, many cat owners find the included dropper inconvenient to use. A regular disposable syringe can be used as an alternative.

Owner reviews
Victoria, owner of a British cat:
"We adopted a cute British shorthair from a shelter. He had lived with his grandmother before ending up on the street. He developed cystitis due to stress. When we noticed blood in his urine, we immediately took him to the vet. He prescribed antibiotics, antispasmodics, and Koterwin. Because of his very bitter taste, I couldn't give him the antibiotics, but Koterwin worked perfectly on its own. After the course, Raymond recovered, and his urinary problems are a thing of the past."
Snezhana, owner of a 4-year-old cat:
"We first encountered this medication when our cat was diagnosed with a kidney stone. We treated it with Stop-Cystitis for several months, but ultimately had to undergo surgery because it turned out to be an oxalate stone. Six months later, the cat started having urinary problems again. The cause was kidney disease. This time, Kotervin was effective. We managed the problem without antibiotics or other strong medications. The cat took the medication almost voluntarily."
Veterinarian Reviews
Lyudmila, a veterinarian with 6 years of experience:
"It's an excellent remedy for preventing urolithiasis, but I never use it for treatment. The herbal ingredients aren't strong enough to cure the condition. However, Kotervin can be used as an adjunct to antibiotics and other medications."
Valentin, a veterinarian with 13 years of experience:
"We've been using Kotervin at our clinic for a long time. It's been found that animals recover faster when this herbal remedy is included in their comprehensive treatment. I've even had cases where this remedy helped avoid surgery. However, the disease was detected at an early stage."
