The Story of the Cartoon Cat
Did you know Pusheen is a cat? Yes, a kitty, not a languid tomcat! The original drawings were created by English artist Claire Belton. The first sketch was spontaneous: Claire simply drew a comic-style image of her cat. The result was a cute, chubby creature with short legs and small, pointed ears. This is how Pusheen appeared to everyone in 2010. With that first drawing, the first comics for children also appeared. Children eagerly followed Pusheen's life, experiencing his life through the pictures.
The artist expressed her love for her pet in her drawings. It's known that the real Pusheen had a difficult childhood: she was adopted from a shelter. She got her name from the similar-sounding word "puisin," which means "kitten." In appearance, she a common gray tabby catIn terms of habits, she's a real lazybones, loving to sleep and eat anything that comes her way. These are the qualities her owner tried to capture in her sketches.
A year later, the cartoon cat launched a blog and its popularity soared. But the character's global popularity finally came in 2013, when Facebook was looking for new emojis. The company's management had long admired Claire Belton's character, and the artist was asked to develop new Pusheen images that would liven up users' messages. This proved to be a real breakthrough. The cute cat's image was used over 10 million times in a day! After Facebook, Telegram also adopted Pusheen stickers. The cat achieved worldwide fame!
In 2014, the first soft toys based on Claire Belton's designs appeared. They were released by GUND. Initially, they consisted of two plush Pusheen figures, which were immediately snapped up by fans. In 2015, a full collection was released, featuring the cat's most popular images. Thanks to GUND's marketers, they were able to understand what it is about this plump gray cat that so appeals to people. Research showed that images of the beloved creature with food are always trendy. She embodied the image of a laid-back, lazy cat who loves treats.
Isaac Morris Ltd. has decided to capitalize on the worldwide furry craze. Every three months, the company sends its subscribers a box containing hidden cat surprises.
