These diets are produced by the Canadian company EPP – Elmira Pet Products, located in Elmira, Ontario, Canada. The company's history began nearly a hundred years ago with the establishment of a small mill, Martin Feed Mills. Its founder, Eli Martin, sold ground grain as animal feed, and his product was in great demand among local farmers.
Over the years, EPP has become one of Canada's largest producers of prepared pet food. Cutting-edge approaches and cutting-edge production technologies ensure their products are of the highest quality and most nutritious. It's worth noting that the company's entire product line is exclusively dry food. They've chosen a limited selection, but they're constantly working to improve quality, having thoroughly studied every aspect of this product.
In addition to its own brands, the plant offers pet food manufacturing services for third-party customers. Anyone can order a batch of pet food, and the company guarantees that the final product will precisely match the required recipe.

Assortment of feed
The entire range of Nutram dog foods is divided into three main groups: Sound Balanced Wellness, Ideal Solution Support, and Total Grain Free.
Sound Balanced Wellness
A category of natural, balanced diets for all breeds at all life stages. This group consists of six nutritional variations.
- two positions are dedicated to feeding puppies (Puppy Food), they differ from each other only in the size of the pet (for small and medium, and for large breeds - Large Breed);
- Adult animals can also choose a diet based on their weight category: Small Breed Adult – Nutram dry food for small dogs; Large Breed Adult – food for large breeds over 1 year old;
- The remaining two foods in this line are diets for pets of any breed (Natural Adult), and one of them is dietary - with lamb.
Ideal Solution Support
Specialized diets for pets with specific health conditions. This line isn't veterinary—it simply supports the pet's body, but doesn't treat illnesses. This line includes only two items:
- Sensitive Dog is a food for animals with digestive issues and skin problems. It's made with lamb and pumpkin.
- Weight Control is a diet for overweight pets. Its increased protein content and reduced fat content help with weight stabilization and weight loss.

Total Grain Free
A range of grain-free formulas including the following:
- With poultry meat – the recipe is based on a mix of chicken, turkey and duck.
- Salmon with trout – created on the basis of fish protein sources.
- Lamb with lentils is a grain-free diet for dogs of any breed.
- Chicken and Turkey for Small Dogs - Small kibble is enjoyed by small dogs.
- Salmon with trout for mini breeds - also with a smaller croquette.
This is the entire list of Nutram dog foods. Some might find the selection limited and would like to see breed-specific lines or veterinary diets. But the key isn't the sheer number of varieties, but the high-quality nutritional composition, isn't it? Let's take a look at how Nutram dog food stacks up in this regard.
Composition analysis
To thoroughly analyze the ingredients of Nutram dry dog food, we selected the most versatile food from the Natural Adult series. Thanks to its composition, this food is recommended as a daily diet for dogs with no health issues and no special dietary requirements. So, what is it made of?
- dry chicken meat (19.5%);
- boneless chicken fillet (12%);
- brown rice (12%);
- oatmeal;
- polished barley.
As practice shows, the first five ingredients form the basis of the feed—their combined share in the finished product's weight is significantly greater than 50%. The remaining components are added to improve the composition and provide the animal with additional nutrients.

Next on the package list are green peas (10.5%), chicken fat, dehydrated beet pulp, 3% pumpkin, alfalfa, and natural flavor (chicken broth). Then comes the list of apples (0.7%), carrots, whole chicken eggs, 0.5% flaxseed, and Canadian salmon oil (0.3%).
The ingredients also include potassium chloride, DL methionine, choline chloride, pomegranate, cranberry, sea salt, and chicory root as a prebiotic. The vitamin and mineral complex is followed by 0.045% glucosamine, yucca schidigera, spinach, celery seed, and a blend of herbs (mint and chamomile), plus spices (turmeric, ginger, and rosemary).
It's clear that the positive reviews of Nutram dog food have been confirmed – the ingredients are truly good and contain many beneficial nutrients. Both the advertising and the manufacturer's website repeatedly claim that this food belongs to the super-premium segment of pet food.
Let's take a detailed look at each ingredient individually and evaluate the guaranteed nutritional values:
- protein: 24.4%;
- crude fat: 15.3%;
- fiber: 3.5%;
- humidity: 8%;
- ash content: 7.2%;
- calcium: 0.9%;
- phosphorus: 0.8%;
- omega-3: 0.3%;
- omega-6: 2.35%;
- Glucosamine: 400 mg/1 kg.
All of these indicators are also within normal limits, and are considered average for a super-premium daily diet. Let's now take a closer look at each ingredient in Nutram dog food.

Squirrels
The animal protein content in the recipe is 19.5% dry chicken meat and 12% fresh chicken fillet. These are excellent indicators and high-quality ingredients, but there is one caveat: during processing, the chicken fillet loses water, and the finished product will contain almost three times less water (4% instead of 12%).
Peas are also rich in protein and are often added to pet food as a grain substitute. They have a low glycemic index, making them more beneficial for dogs than grains. In addition to protein, they contain many essential micronutrients.
Chicken broth may also contain a small percentage of protein, but it's very low. Broth is a natural, strong-smelling flavoring and isn't generally considered a source of protein.
Fats
The lipid sources in Nutram dry dog food are two components: chicken fat and Canadian salmon oil. Both are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Chicken fat is rendered from the bird's carcass, and the resulting substance is significantly more valuable than animal fat. Salmon oil is cold-pressed, making it even more beneficial than chicken oil. In addition to omega-3 and omega-6, this lipid contains docosahexaenoic acid, which is beneficial for your pet's coat and skin. Flaxseed also contains a small amount of fat.
Carbohydrates
We determined their amount to be around 35-37%. Carbohydrates are also necessary, but when they come from grains, it's not very good. They are poorly digested by the dog's body and don't provide much benefit.
The carbohydrate sources in this food are brown rice, barley, and oats. While rice and oats can be considered decent ingredients, barley falls flat—it seems like it's added purely as a filler to cut costs.

Additional components
- Green peas – in addition to vegetable protein and fiber, they contain a lot of iron, zinc, vitamins A and K, and most importantly – many antioxidants.
- Beet pulp is a source of plant fiber. It promotes digestion and intestinal cleansing.
- Pumpkin is a good source of vitamins and beta-carotene, which promotes better digestion.
- Alfalfa contains plant protein and a wide range of vitamins. It also serves as a source of plant fiber.
- Apples are a source of pectin, which promotes digestion and the elimination of toxins from the body.
- Carrots are a source of beta-carotene and fiber. However, dogs don't convert carrot carotene into vitamin A—for this, they need retinoid, a carotene precursor found in meat.
- Whole eggs are an ideal source of animal protein, which is almost 100% digestible. They contain many vitamins and minerals beneficial for dogs.
- Flax seeds are a high-quality source of omega-3, vitamins, and antioxidants. They also contain significant amounts of soluble fiber, making them a very beneficial nutrient for coat and skin.
- Potassium chloride is a common emulsifier used to homogenize feed. It is approved for human and animal consumption.
- DL-methionine is an essential amino acid that facilitates the breakdown of fats. It reduces the burden on the liver, preventing cirrhosis, hepatitis, and malnutrition.
- Choline chloride, a vitamin B4, protects the skin from dehydration and regulates lipid metabolism at the cell membrane level.
- Pomegranate is rich in tannins, vitamin C, and fiber. It also contains many minerals.
- Cranberries are an excellent preventative for kidney stones. They contain tannin and vitamin C, and they also acidify urine and effectively fight urinary tract infections.
- Sea salt is essentially sodium chloride, a common table salt. It's a highly controversial ingredient. Dogs don't naturally consume salt, so its benefits haven't been proven. An indirect effect is that salty foods encourage drinking, which is beneficial when feeding dry food.

- Chicory root contains up to 75% inulin, which is a valuable prebiotic.
- Glucosamine is a building block of cartilage. It's a beneficial nutrient for senior animals and heavy-duty dogs.
- Yucca schidigera is an interesting food ingredient that helps reduce fecal odor and effectively kills intestinal bacteria.
- Spinach – despite its small percentage (almost at the end of the list), this ingredient contains many vitamins, minerals, a high content of plant fiber and antioxidants.
- Celery – contains essential amino acids.
- Herbal tea is a beneficial ingredient, but due to its small amount in the feed, we won't discuss each nutrient separately. These are beneficial supplements of natural plant substances with vitamin and mineral complexes.
Having summed up all the ingredients reviewed, there is no doubt that this is a high-quality super-premium food that satisfies the daily nutritional needs of an average dog living in a house.
