Farmina dog food

The Italian company Farmina was founded in 1965 as a producer of agricultural animal feed by an Italian named Francesco Russo. At the time, it was called "Russo Feed" and owned one of the industry's leading enterprises. The company's founder dreamed of his children continuing his work, and so from an early age, he instilled in them a love of animals and his work.

In 1999, the founder's son, Angelo, embraced the family business concept and opened a factory producing Farmina dog food. It was something new, but it was in keeping with the spirit of his father's business: pets are family members too, and therefore they deserve the best. Producing such diets required a strong scientific base, so Angelo turned to the British company Farmina, which boasted extensive research and development capabilities.

Thanks to this fruitful collaboration, several lines of food have been developed to meet all the needs of pets, as well as a line of veterinary diets that can support weakened animals during periods of recovery or with chronic illnesses.

Later, the Farmina Vet Research department was established—a team of veterinarians and food scientists developing customized diets for each type of pet. The food is currently produced at three main factories: in Serbia, Italy, and Brazil.

Thanks to this thorough approach, this food deservedly receives rave reviews from breeders worldwide. This food fully lives up to the company's vision, expressed in the slogan, "A happy pet means happy you!"

Assortment of dog food

The company approached the creation of a wide range of diets with the same responsibility: all meal classes are available to the buyer – from economy to holistic food of the highest quality.

Farmina company logo

The economy line is called Fun Dog and is available in just three varieties: Mix, Adult, and Energy. We won't go into detail about this food, as the manufacturer makes no secret of the fact that it contains a lot of grains and, in fact, little meat—hence its affordability.

Ecopet Natural

Premium diets are produced under the Ecopet Natural brand and offer consumers a choice of four varieties: for puppies, adult pets, with added fish, and with added lamb. While premium food isn't ideal for pets, Ecopet Natural does not contain any harmful or dangerous ingredients. Farmina remains true to her ideals and strives to produce the most nutritious and wholesome food possible.

Cibau

The super-premium line is called Cibau, and the assortment already includes ten different products designed for puppies (categorized by breed size), adult dogs (categorized by breed size), and even food for pets with sensitive digestion, containing fish or lamb. These foods contain high-quality meat and a full range of vitamins and minerals essential for pets. Furthermore, the diets designed for dogs with special needs are wheat-free, ensuring allergy-free nutrition for even the most discerning pets.

Natural&Delicious (N&D)

And finally, we come to the most delicious part—Farmina holistic dog food. This includes the Natural & Delicious (N&D) series, which includes grain-free, reduced-grain, and pumpkin-flavored foods. Each of these varieties is further divided into several different nutritional categories.

N&D grain-free comes in the following varieties:

  • Chicken-based food with added pomegranate pulp – for puppies of various breed sizes, as well as adult animals;
  • Fish food with added orange for adult animals of all breeds;
  • A diet of wild boar meat with an admixture of apples;
  • Tender lamb with blueberries.

Any food in this group can be identified by a green leaflet depicted on the food package. The leaflet of the low-grain food is filled with an image of wheat ears, while the leaflet of the N&D pumpkin food is filled with an image of a ripe pumpkin.

Reduced grain diets offer a variety of menu options, including:

  • Chicken-based food with added pomegranate – for adult pets and puppies. Separate food for dogs over 7 years old is also available;
  • Food based on cod meat and orange - for adult pets;
  • Dry lamb food with added blueberries – for both puppies and adult dogs.

According to the information provided on the packaging, all of these foods contain a decent amount of animal protein, supplemented with healthy grains such as spelt and oats.

N&D Pumpkin also offers a fairly extensive list of foods, including chicken flavors with added pumpkin and pomegranate (categorized by dog size), cod and orange pulp with pumpkin (also categorized by pet size), a boar menu with an admixture of apple and pumpkin pulp (categorized by dog size), and four lamb diets with added pumpkin and blueberries (categorized by breed size, and there is also a diet specifically for puppies and nursing bitches).

Farmina Vet Life dog food

As we can see, this company offers a wide range of products. But what does it consist of, and is it as good as the company's website claims? Let's take a closer look at one of the diets and learn the ins and outs of this dog food.

Analysis of the composition of Farmina feed

For our study, we chose N&D Fish with Orange Adult food—a complete diet for adult dogs of all breeds. Breed sizes are categorized solely by kibble size—there are three varieties: small, medium, and large. This ensures convenience for dogs.

So, the composition of the food, as given on the package:

  1. Fresh herring – 26%;
  2. Dehydrated herring in the amount of 25%;
  3. Potatoes (without percentage indication);
  4. Fish oil as a source of lipids;
  5. Dried whole eggs;
  6. Dried pea fiber.

As is usually the case, the first 5-6 ingredients tell us what the food is made of. Here we see some very respectable ingredients.

The ingredients list continues with dried alfalfa and carrots, followed by inulin and other prebiotics, 0.5% dried orange, dehydrated apples, pomegranate, and spinach. Then comes psyllium (0.3%), dried currants and blueberries, salt, dried brewer's yeast, turmeric root (0.2%), chondroitin with glucosamine, and the final nutrient is calendula extract.

The vitamin and mineral content is listed separately, but we won't cover it in full. Suffice it to say, it's an impressive list, capable of satisfying even the most discerning owners and providing their pets with everything they need. This is one reason why reviews of Farmina dog food are almost always filled with positive feedback from breeders.

Dog food N&D Fish with Orange Adult

Guaranteed Content:

  • Crude protein 37.00% - very good, high value
  • Crude fat and oils 18.00% - adequate lipid content
  • Crude fiber 2.60% - normal
  • Crude ash 7.80% - slightly below average
  • Omega-6 3.00% - excellent content
  • Omega-3 1.20% - excellent content

What can I say, the ingredients are beyond praise. Taking everything into account, a dog fed this food will receive all the nutrients it needs to live a long and healthy life.

Squirrels

Herring, both fresh and dehydrated, is a good source of protein. It's a good ingredient, but the only issue is the percentage. Fresh herring will lose water during processing, significantly reducing its percentage in the finished feed, but this is more of a quibble than a flaw. Another source of protein is whole dried eggs—an excellent nutrient with many beneficial properties. Pea fiber is also a source of protein, but of plant origin—an equally beneficial product.

Fats

Fish oil is a source of lipids. This wonderful, beneficial ingredient not only provides the body with fat but also provides the dog with polyunsaturated acids, essential for skin and coat health. This ingredient is a definite plus for this food!

Carbohydrates

The carbohydrate content is not listed, but the ingredients indicate that potatoes are the source. Recently, replacing grains in pet food with potatoes has become fashionable. However, there is no consensus on the health benefits of this. What is known for certain is that it is harmless and provides the body with the necessary carbohydrate levels.

Dry dog food with fish

Additional components

Carrots and alfalfa are excellent sources of fiber, essential for normal digestion. Prebiotics ensure healthy intestinal flora in your pet. Oranges, pomegranates, and apples are all ideal sources of vitamins and fiber, as well as antioxidants that slow aging and wear and tear. Psyllium is a source of fiber, and blueberries and currants offer excellent antibacterial properties. These berries also help cleanse the body of waste and toxins. Brewer's yeast maintains your pet's coat and skin, while turmeric fights inflammation. Chondroitin and glucosamine support joint health and help your dog stay active longer. Calendula extract promotes normal digestion.

All of these additional components deserve praise, and, in our site's opinion, food containing them can be confidently recommended for all animals as a permanent diet.

Reviews of Farmina food

Despite this food's relatively recent introduction to the Russian market, you can find a fair number of reviews online. Overall, they're almost all positive, which is understandable—the food's quality is quite high. However, there are also those who are downright dissatisfied. Let's take a look at the reviews of Farmina dog food:

Diana, the Labrador's owner:

"We've been buying Farmina food for Basel for a long time. The breeder gave us his first pack with the puppy, and we haven't changed his diet since. What I can say is that the food is quite expensive, but it's worth it! He's healthy, happy, playful, and active! His coat is shiny and everything else is in perfect condition! I'm very, very happy!"

Sergei Ivanovich, the owner of the Spitz:

"We were feeding our dog Acana, but we decided to look for something a little cheaper. Quality was the main criterion—we didn't want to stuff Baksik with just anything. The vet recommended Farmina. We tried a small pack, and now we always buy N&D with chicken and pomegranate. Our dog loves it—what else could he want?"

Victoria, Staffordshire Terrier breeder:

"My dogs are large and active, so they need to eat well. I was recommended Farmina dog food, so I bought some to try. Both dogs ate it happily, and one was fine, but the other developed an upset stomach. But the vet reassured us—it was just an individual reaction. We found Farmina for sensitive digestion, and everything returned to normal. It's a good food, though quite expensive!"

As for veterinarian reviews of Farmina food, they mostly describe veterinary diets. Doctors rate these foods highly—they truly help with various ailments. However, it's important to remember that giving veteraciones without medical supervision is not recommended—it can lead to problems.

The price of Farmina food

As for the prices of this food, the average values were as follows:

  • 2.5 kg – from 1330 rub.;
  • 7 kg – from 3120 rub.;

  • My cat died at age six from organ failure in two weeks! He ate only this food for the last six months. Before that, everything was fine.

    • Hello! You're writing about a cat under an article about dog food. You're either under the wrong article, or you've been feeding the wrong food to your pet.

  • The food is good. But stay away from their official store.

    Not a single normal delivery in a year.

    Once again, delivery, once again, they don't deliver on time, and when you try to find out what happened to the order, they lie to the last minute and even then in writing (you can't get through by phone, there's an answering machine everywhere), the only one answering the phone is the courier, who threatens to come and rip your legs off... that's how it happens.
