Dog food Pro Pac
Pro Pac dog food, while strongly reminiscent of another superbrand, is gradually losing its association with it and is gradually gaining a loyal following in Russia. According to our most recent monitoring, reviews of Pro Pac are overwhelmingly positive, which is encouraging.
While not yet the most popular dog food on the domestic pet market, Pro Pak is a high-quality alternative to inexpensive premium foods. This diet will allow you to transition your pet to a complete super-premium diet at minimal cost (at least that's how the manufacturer markets it). Let's delve deeper and find out if this brand is as good as the online reviews claim.

Manufacturer
Pro Pack dog food is manufactured in America by Midwestern Pets Food Inc, headquartered in Evansville, Indiana.
The company was founded in 1926, and since then, its products have been positioned as high-quality dog and cat foods, made exclusively from American ingredients. With the advent of classifications, Pro Pac food was classified as super-premium, as the creators claim it is wheat-free and contains natural meat. This factory also produces a line of holistic diets, but today we'll focus on the super-premium diets, known as Pro Pac.
All Pro Pack dog food reviews, which you can read at the end of this article or easily find online, are indeed made in the USA and are not outsourced to other countries. According to the manufacturer, the meat and other ingredients are produced exclusively in the US, meaning quality is guaranteed by the country's animal nutrition standards and regulations. The manufacturer also claims the food contains no chemical dyes or flavor enhancers, which is undoubtedly excellent news for owners who have decided to switch their pet to this diet.

Assortment
In the super-premium line of Pro Pack dry dog food, there are several basic diets, namely:
- Adult Chunk & Adult Mini Chunk (food for adult dogs and adult dogs of small breeds);
- Performance Puppy (food for puppies up to 12 months, as well as pregnant and lactating bitches);
- Large Breed Adult (large breeds, adult dogs);
- Large Breed Puppy (puppies of large breeds);
- Senior (for older animals);
- High Performance (for animals with increased energy expenditure);
- Lamb & Rice (lamb with rice for dogs with allergies);
- Sensitive (for animals with sensitive digestion).
Each of these Pro Pack dog foods has a different composition, so we'll analyze them in more detail to find out what makes them so special. They all contain varying amounts of meat (Performance Puppy and High Performance claim higher levels of animal protein), corn (except Senior, Lamb & Rice, and Sensitive), rice, and vitamin and mineral supplements. Importantly, Pro Pack Lamb & Rice uses lamb, which has a significantly higher nutritional value than chicken.
As stated, Pro Pack dog food does not contain wheat or barley. This is an undeniable advantage, as it eliminates the risk of gluten allergies. However, it also contains corn, which is essentially a wheat substitute and is practically indigestible in dogs. It's needed to provide carbohydrates to the food, but the benefits of this ingredient are highly questionable.
Another point that raised our concerns was the lack of precise percentages of any given ingredient on the manufacturer's official website. This is clearly a flaw – it's important for consumers to know what and how much their pet is getting in their food.
Analysis of feed composition
Let's take a closer look at the ingredients of Adult Chunk as an example. According to the manufacturer's website, Pro Pac dry dog food contains (in descending order of quantity): chicken meal, corn, chicken fat preserved with tocopherols, rice, beet pulp, natural flavor, flaxseed and yeast cultures, salt (!), potassium chloride, vitamins, and minerals.
As already mentioned, the percentage content of the components is not indicated, only the nutritional value:
| Protein | 26% | not high enough for super premium nutrition |
| Fat | 15% | within normal limits |
| Ash | 7.8% | good ash content |
| Fiber | 4% | average in this class |
| Moisture | 10% | upper limit of normal |
| Calcium | 1.08% | good content indicator |
| Phosphorus | 0.86% | normal |
| Omega-6 fatty acids | 2.7% | excellent percentage of content |
| Omega-3 fatty acids | 0.45% | good indicator |
| Energy value | 4718 kcal | which is quite a lot |
Pro Pak dog food is already a well-known brand in Russia, so you can find plenty of reviews from pet owners, particularly comments about the ingredients. Despite the low percentage of animal protein, the manufacturer ensures the presence of essential micronutrients for dogs, and even includes Omega-3 and Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which is a great benefit.
Protein
Pro Pak's source of animal protein is chicken. It's presented in the form of chicken meal—a huge plus! This ensures the meat content remains consistent throughout all stages of production. Furthermore, chicken meal is highly digestible, ensuring the body fully absorbs all the animal proteins found in the meat.
But there's a downside: this diet is the only protein-rich ingredient. I'd like to see more variety—like fish or rabbit.
Fat
Chicken fat is listed as the third ingredient in the formula. It's an excellent source of lipids compared to vegetable fats, and especially animal fats (pork or beef). Thanks to its easy digestibility, chicken fat is a virtually ideal source of fat for a dog's body.
Carbohydrates
But here's where things aren't so rosy: corn is listed as the second ingredient, meaning it's present in a significant percentage of Pro Pack food. Although it's not wheat, and its grains don't cause food allergies (they don't contain gluten), corn offers no nutritional benefits and is almost completely eliminated from the body. Sometimes referred to as a filler, this ingredient raises serious questions and calls into question the super-premium nature of the food.
Rice is also a source of carbohydrates, which only increases the percentage of cereals in the composition.
Additional components
- Beet pulp Beets are a highly controversial product. Many call them filler, while others say they're healthy. One thing is certain: beets are a source of fiber, which means they fulfill their intended purpose, and therefore they're well-added to the food.
- Flax-seed – normalizes digestion and is also designed to improve the condition of the skin and coat. A beneficial component that goes without saying.
- Salt – The debate over dogs' need for salt is still ongoing. On the one hand, salt is needed to stimulate drinking, which is beneficial for digestion when fed dry food. But on the other hand, salt is not present in wild food, meaning it is not a natural component of their diet. We would consider the presence of salt more of a disadvantage than a benefit.
- Yeast cultures – seemingly a beneficial component that aids digestion. However, yeast is often the cause of food allergies in dogs.
Reviews of food
Although this brand is not very common, we found several breeder reviews online and are happy to share them with our visitors:
Natalia, a Labrador puppy:
"On the breeder's advice, we fed him Ekanuba. It's good, of course, but very expensive. We decided to find something cheaper and found reviews of ProPak online. We were attracted by the fact that it was made in the US, and the price was also attractive. Our Baron ate the food happily and showed no health issues. Over time, we switched to the same brand, but for adult dogs. We're very happy with everything!"
Sergey B., pug breeder:
"We had eye problems, so we decided to change the diet – we tried Lamb & Rice from the ProPac series. Well, what can I say – the tearing stopped, but we were consuming significantly more food – apparently the formula isn't ideal, but the low price more than makes up for it!"

Veterinarian Reviews
Despite our extensive search, we couldn't find any reviews from real doctors. Therefore, we won't mislead our readers by citing the reviews of pseudo-veterinarians floating around forums about this diet. The main advantages include: a high-quality source of animal protein and fat, the presence of all essential vitamins and minerals, and a sufficient variety. Another advantage of Pro Pak dog food is its price. Compared to other brands in this segment, its price seems quite attractive. Among the disadvantages, we note the presence of grains (especially corn), and apparently in large quantities. Also, a drawback is the presence of several controversial ingredients.
