The main components responsible for the destruction of fleas and other ectoparasites are:
- fipronil;
- permethrin.
The product is available in several formulations for cats, kittens, and puppies, depending on the concentration of the active ingredients. It also contains:
- polyvinylpyrrolidone;
- propylene glycol;
- dimethyl sulfoxide.
Price
Celandine drops for cats are inexpensive. A pack of three droppers costs 100-130 rubles. Note that droppers are also available individually at many pharmacies.
Operating principle
A distinctive feature of the drug is its effectiveness against parasites at all stages of development – from eggs to sexually mature individuals.
The mechanism of action is to disrupt the transmission of nerve impulses. This leads to paralysis, which ultimately kills the insects. This occurs within a couple of days, but the effects last for 1-2 months.

The active ingredients barely penetrate the bloodstream. So, how does this product work? Its effectiveness is achieved by the active ingredients accumulating in the epidermis, sebaceous glands, and fur. Parasites are killed immediately upon the slightest contact, without causing harm to the animal.
When used
According to the instructions, Celandine drops are used for cats, male cats, and kittens from 2 months of age to kill external parasites:
- fleas;
- scabies, sarcoptic and ixodid mites;
- lice;
- lice.
It can also be used to prevent their appearance. Preventative measures are taken monthly during the insect activity period, from February-March to October-November. Below are details on where and how to apply this product.
Instructions for use
Celandine drops are applied to areas cats can't easily lick. This is typically the back of the head or neck. It's important to follow the correct dosage when applying the drops:
- for adult cats and cats weighing over 2 kg, use one pipette for one treatment;
- For kittens and animals weighing less than 2 kg, half a pipette is enough.
Treatment for fleas, lice and ticks using this product is carried out as follows:
- Carefully break off or cut off the top of the pipette.
- Part the hair at the withers or back of the head.
- Apply drops of medicine onto the epidermis.

If the medication is used prophylactically, the dosage and instructions for use remain the same. For maximum effectiveness, follow these recommendations:
- If the medication is used for therapeutic purposes, a single application is required. For the treatment of sarcoptes and notoedric mange, the medication may be administered 2-4 times at intervals of 7 to 10 days, but under the supervision of a doctor.
- When using the medicine to prevent tick infestation, treatment is carried out monthly; for flea prevention, treatment is carried out once every 2 months during the entire period of insect activity.
- After applying the medication, avoid bathing the animal for the first 24 hours. Also, avoid accidental contact with water, such as walking through dew or rain. Water may affect the effectiveness of the medication.
- It is advisable not to skip scheduled treatments, as failure to follow the schedule may result in a reduction in the therapeutic effect.
If celandine is used to control fleas in cats, it's important to additionally treat bedding and household items. This will help prevent re-infestation.

If the medication is used to treat ear mites, 1-3 drops are instilled into each ear canal. The ear canals should be cleaned of any scabs or debris beforehand. If necessary, repeat the procedure every 3-5 days until symptoms completely disappear.
Precautionary measures
Celandine is classified as a hazard group 3 plant because it contains the toxic substances fipronil and permethrin. Precautions should be taken:
- During handling, wear rubber or latex gloves to avoid direct contact with the product. Its components can cause allergic reactions. This is especially important for people with hypersensitivity.
- After applying the medication, do not pet the animal or pick it up for 1-2 days.
- Avoid contact of small children with the cat for the first couple of days after treatment.
- Avoid eating, drinking, and smoking during treatment to prevent accidental ingestion of the medication. If this does occur, seek medical attention.
- After completing the treatment, wash your hands using disinfectant or soap.
- Dropper containers should not be used for household purposes or given to children for play. Empty droppers must be disposed of properly.

Ingestion or improper use of the drug can cause poisoning. To prevent this, follow these guidelines:
- If you're treating multiple animals at once, don't let them lick the medication off each other. It's best to keep them separated until it's completely dry.
- Do not use other insecticidal products (shampoo, collars, etc.) together with Celandine drops.
- If the medicine gets on the mucous membranes, they must be washed immediately.

Owner reviews
Anna, the owner of the British cat:
"Our cat developed a severe allergic reaction to Celandine drops. It's a good thing I thought to immediately wash the drops off and take him to the hospital. We barely made it out alive. We had liver tests, and it turned out his liver function had worsened significantly."
Anastasia, volunteer:
"When two kittens (2 and 8 months old) came into our foster care from the streets, we encountered a problem with fleas. The animals were infested with parasites. We bought Celandine, designed for kittens and puppies. After treatment, the dead fleas fell out on their own and never returned. And although the medication is inexpensive, it does the job perfectly."
Ksenia, owner of a Siamese cat:
"Our indoor cat manages to find fleas everywhere. The first time, we used shampoo. It helped, but the cat really didn't like the bathing process. As a result, I ended up with scratches all over my arms. The second time, we used drops. There was no resistance, but no fleas either. I recommend it to everyone."
Veterinarian Reviews
Svetlana Anatolyevna, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:
"Celandine drops are an excellent alternative to imported medications like Frontline, produced by a domestic manufacturer. They're affordable and highly effective. I often recommend them to clients, but always ensure they follow the instructions. I've never had any side effects, although I've heard of cases of poisoning. In most cases, this occurs due to incorrect dosage or concentration."
Arthur, a veterinarian with 7 years of experience:
"Celandine is a good remedy, but it's important to remember that any insecticide, including these drops, is poisonous, so it's important to follow the dosage and doctor's recommendations. It can have a negative effect on the liver. It's best to have your vital signs checked."
