Caforsen for dogs

Caforsen is a complex homeopathic remedy used in dogs with chronic and acute bone diseases. It helps restore mineral metabolism and provide the body with essential micro- and macronutrients.

Composition and release form

The medication is available as an injection solution and tablets. The active ingredients in both cases are safe mineral supplements:

  • calcium fluoride;
  • calcium carbonate;
  • phosphorus;
  • calcium phosphate;
  • silicon.

The solution also contains sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid, ethyl alcohol, water for injection, and other ingredients. The medication appears as a clear, colorless liquid. The sterile liquid is packaged in clear glass vials. They are available in 10 and 100 ml volumes.

Kaformen for dogs

In addition to the homeopathic ingredients listed above, the tablets also contain granulated sugar and calcium stearate. The round, white tablets are packaged in plastic bottles with screw-on lids. Each package contains 50 tablets.

Pharmacological properties

Due to the content of mineral supplements, Kaforsen has the following effect on the body:

  • restores the levels of phosphorus, calcium and magnesium;
  • improves bone tissue formation;
  • stimulates regenerative processes in bone and cartilage tissue;
  • corrects bone metabolism;
  • increases the elasticity of connective tissue.

When administered by injection, the active ingredients quickly enter the bloodstream and are distributed throughout the body. Absorption of the medication in tablets is slower, as the minerals enter the bloodstream through the intestinal tract. The elimination time from the body of the active ingredients is 20-24 hours.

Price

The cost of Caforsen for dogs depends on the form of release and packaging volume:

  • 10 ml solution – 310-340 rubles;
  • solution 100 ml – 1350-1480 rubles;
  • 50 tablets – 275-310 rubles.

Advantages and disadvantages

Caforsen has a number of important advantages:

  1. The composition includes safe components that do not cause side effects.
  2. Can be used for dogs of all breeds and ages.
  3. Approved for use by puppies and elderly individuals, lactating and pregnant females.
  4. It does not have an irritating, mutagenic or embryotoxic effect.

  6. It's available in two pharmaceutical forms. Those who can't administer injections can use tablets.
  7. There are virtually no contraindications.
  8. Compatible with medications of other groups.

Puppies

The medication has a complex effect due to its composition of various minerals. A drawback of this medicine is the need for long-term treatment, as with other homeopathic remedies.

Indications for use

The drug is usually prescribed as part of complex therapy for diseases caused by mineral metabolism disorders:

  • at rickets;
  • for osteoporosis;
  • in osteopathy;
  • in secondary hyperparathyroidism;
  • in case of bone tissue dystrophy;
  • with osteomalacia.

Recommended for use in cases of cracks, fractures, ligament tears, and other injuries to bone or connective tissue. It accelerates the process of regeneration and restoration of damaged tissue integrity. It is sometimes used for the prevention of the above-mentioned diseases and eclampsia in females.

Dog with a fracture

Although Kaforsen is classified as a non-hazardous substance according to GOST, its use without consultation with a veterinarian is not recommended.

Instructions for use

The instructions indicate that the specifics of using Caforsen for dogs and the dosage directly depend on the dosage form.

Injection solution

The sterile liquid can be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously. The dosage is calculated based on the pet's weight. 0.1 ml of the drug should be measured for every kilogram of body weight. Injections are administered once daily. Treatment duration typically ranges from 10 to 21 days. If necessary, the course can be repeated after a short break.

Caforsen injection solution

When administering the medication, it is important to observe all aseptic precautions. Use sterile syringes or pre-boiled needles. Skipping doses is not recommended, as this may reduce the therapeutic effect. If a dose is missed, resume the previously prescribed treatment regimen as soon as possible. Do not double the dose.

Pills

When using tablets, the dosage is calculated as follows:

  • small breed dogs and puppies will need one tablet;
  • for pets medium breeds you should take 2 tablets;
  • For large animals, the dose should be increased to 3 tablets.

The daily dose is taken once daily. For best therapeutic effect, it is recommended to take the medication 1 hour before meals. This ensures the body absorbs all the mineral components with maximum benefit.

Kaforsen tablets

The drug in this form can be administered in various ways:

  1. Mix the tablets with a small amount of food (ground meat, chicken, or another treat) and offer them to your dog. For small pets, you can crush them beforehand. Make sure your pet eats the entire treat, as reducing the dose may reduce its effectiveness.
  2. If your dog refuses to eat tablets mixed with food, open its mouth and place the tablets on the back of its tongue. Then, hold its head up and stroke it downwards, stimulating a reflexive swallow.
  3. If forced administration is difficult for small dogs and puppies, the tablet should be crushed and mixed with a small amount of clean water, then injected into the mouth using a syringe without a needle.

Treatment usually lasts 3-4 weeks. Depending on the animal's condition, a repeat course of treatment may be prescribed.

Contraindications and side effects

The only contraindication for using Caforsen in dogs is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients. If allergic reactions occur, discontinue use and consider a different medication.

The medication does not cause side effects. In case of intolerance, an allergic reaction may occur. Symptoms may include:

  • redness and itching;
  • rashes and other skin problems;
  • anxiety or apathy;
  • gastrointestinal tract disorders (diarrhea, vomiting, nausea).

Apathy in a dog

If such symptoms appear, discontinue the medication. The animal usually does not require special treatment, and the symptoms resolve on their own. In rare cases, antihistamines may be required. In any case, it is best to consult a doctor.

The instructions state that Kaforsen does not cause adverse reactions in dogs when overdosed, but the recommended doses should still be followed.

Storage rules and safety measures

Store unopened solution vials and tablets at temperatures between 0 and 30˚C. Keep the medication away from sunlight, heat sources, food, and feed. Keep out of reach of children and animals.

Once opened, the solution in the bottle is only valid for 21 days. Do not use the medicine after the expiration date.

When handling Caforsen, it is important to follow general safety precautions. Wash your hands with soap after handling the medication.

Owner reviews

Svetlana, owner of a 6-year-old spaniel:

"Our dog became apathetic and started refusing to go for walks. After an examination, the veterinarian prescribed Caforsen, vitamin supplements, and a diet. Within a week, Bonya was active and playful again. The medication caused no side effects or adverse reactions. The only downside was that we had to administer injections, which our dog hates."

Inna, owner of a German Shepherd:

"Our shepherd suffered a spinal injury during training when she was young. She's now eight years old. Thanks to regular courses of Caforsen and other homeopathic remedies, she's doing well. She loves walks and playing in the yard with the kids."

Oksana, the owner of several puppies:

"I use Kaforsen to prevent rickets in puppies. I like it for its safety and effectiveness. The injections are not painful, so the puppies don't resist the procedure much. I've been using it for several years now and have no complaints."

Veterinarian Reviews

Inga, a veterinarian with 10 years of experience:

"Caforsen is a homeopathic and very effective remedy. I often prescribe it to puppies to prevent rickets, as it provides a sufficient amount of vitamin "D and proper development of the musculoskeletal system. I recommend using the product even for older dogs, who often suffer from bone injuries. It is well tolerated by animals and does not cause side effects."

Artem, a veterinarian with 12 years of experience:

"It's a safe homeopathic remedy, but it's only suitable for preventative purposes. In acute illnesses, even when combined with other medications, it usually doesn't produce the desired results. Personally, I don't trust homeopathy and prefer traditional treatment, although I've heard positive reviews from colleagues."
