Interspectin-L for dogs
Interspectin-L is a highly effective combination antibacterial agent successfully used in dogs with bacterial infections. Initially developed by the Dutch company Interchemie werken "De Adelaar" BV for farm animals, particularly calves and pigs, the drug has found wider application in veterinary medicine.

General description
Interspectin-L is a medicinal solution for injection. The clear liquid has a light yellow tint. Due to its intended use, 100-milliliter glass vials were chosen for packaging. When using the medication for dogs, purchasing a larger bottle is sometimes impractical, especially for small breeds. To ensure the solution remains sterile for a long time, the vials are sealed with rubber stoppers. To draw the medication into the syringe, it is not necessary to remove the stopper, as it can be pierced with a needle.
Please note! The unopened bottle of medication can be stored at temperatures between 5 and 25 degrees Celsius (41 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit). After opening, the storage temperature should be between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius (35 and 48 degrees Fahrenheit), so it's best to refrigerate the solution. Furthermore, it can only be used within 2 weeks of opening.
The medication's "killer" effect on bacteria is due to the combination of two components: spectinomycin and lincomycin. The formula also contains purified water and other auxiliary components.

Price
The price of a 100 ml bottle of Interspectin in online pharmacies ranges from 950 to 1,100 rubles. The medication may be slightly more expensive in regular veterinary pharmacies. Sometimes, purchasing a 100 ml bottle is impractical for small dogs. For these cases, some veterinary clinics sell the medication in bulk. The required amount is then drawn into a syringe. However, this method is only used in large cities with a high patient flow.
Properties and actions
The two active ingredients complement each other, giving the antibiotic a broad spectrum of action and effectiveness. Its activity extends to gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria that cause respiratory, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and other diseases. Interspectin-L is effective against the following pathogens:
- streptococci;
- salmonella;
- staphylococci;
- treponema;
- mycoplasma;
- E. coli;
- clostridia;
- camplibacteria, etc.
Both lincomycin and spectinomycin work in a similar way, inhibiting protein synthesis in pathogenic organisms. By disrupting these vital processes, bacteria first stop reproducing and then die.
Interspectin-L is characterized by its rapid action. Maximum concentrations are reached in just an hour, sometimes less. The antibacterial agents readily penetrate the bloodstream into all tissues and organs. For this reason, the drug is successfully used to treat bacterial infections regardless of their location. The antibiotic's effect lasts for 24 hours.

Indications for use
Interspectin-L for dogs is most often used to treat digestive system diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms:
- dysentery;
- salmonellosis;
- enteritis;
- intestinal poisoning caused by E. coli and other infections.
The antibiotic can also be used for pneumonia, tonsillitis, and other respiratory diseases. It is also used for genitourinary infections, mycoplasmosis, purulent wounds, including those sustained during fights. It can also be used to treat secondary infections that develop due to viral pathologies or other factors.
Please note! Interspectin-L is considered a low-risk medication, but it should not be used without a doctor's prescription. Before treatment, clinical studies should be conducted to determine the cause of the condition.
Features of use
The instructions indicate that Interspectin-L injections should be administered intramuscularly to dogs. The dosage is calculated as 1 ml per 5 kg of body weight. If necessary, the dosage is adjusted by the doctor based on the pet's individual characteristics and the severity of the disease. Injections are typically given once daily. Sometimes, injections are given morning and evening if the disease is severe. The treatment regimen is determined individually by the veterinarian. The duration of treatment is 3-5 days. Sometimes the medication is used longer, but not longer than 21 days.

Injections are painful, so it is recommended to administer large doses to multiple sites. This is especially important for large breed pets. Antibacterial therapy with Interspectin-L can be combined with symptomatic medications. Combining this medication with other antibiotics is not recommended, as this increases the risk of overdose and complications.
There is no need to take any special precautions when first using the medication or when stopping it.
Contraindications and side effects
Interspectin-L should not be used under any circumstances if you have an intolerance to any of its components. Intolerance can manifest itself in various symptoms:
- nausea and vomiting;
- diarrhea;
- impaired coordination of movements;
- skin reactions, etc.
If such symptoms are observed in an animal after an antibiotic injection, the antibiotic should be discontinued immediately. For further treatment, the doctor should select a medication with different active ingredients. In other cases, animals tolerate the medication without complications or side effects.
Since the active components of this antibacterial drug are eliminated from the body by the kidneys and liver, it is contraindicated in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency. In such cases, the body simply will not be able to eliminate the substances, resulting in toxicity.
Please note! The instructions do not specify the use of Interspectin-L in nursing or pregnant dogs. Generally, the use of this antibiotic is not prohibited, although prior consultation with a veterinarian is necessary.
If the antibiotic dose is exceeded, the dog may experience the following symptoms:
- pain and inflammation at the injection site;
- depressed state, apathy;
- refusal to eat or poor appetite.

Pros and cons
The main advantages of Interspectin include:
- safety;
- high efficiency;
- versatility (effective in treating many pathologies).
A short list of contraindications can also be considered a plus, but the main drawback is the dosage form. Some dog owners request that injections be replaced with another antibiotic in tablet form because they don't know how or can't administer injections. Not everyone can afford to travel to the clinic every day. The large bottles are also a drawback. Often, most of the medication has to be thrown away. For small pets, if syringes are unavailable, it's wiser to choose another medication.

Owner reviews
Marina, Shar Pei owner:
"We were prescribed Interspectin when she had digestive problems. An infection had caused internal bleeding, so we also gave her Cerucal. The dog had a hard time with the injections, trying to escape and whining during the injections, but her suffering was worth it. She felt better by the second day, and by the third, she started going to the bathroom normally. Vomiting continued for a longer period, but only in the morning. It's a good medication, albeit very expensive, but nothing is too much for a beloved dog."
Lyudmila, owner of a golden retriever:
"We were prescribed this antibiotic for severe food poisoning. The dog accidentally ate some spoiled food in the trash. E. coli was found. She had terrible diarrhea (even the carpet had to be thrown out) and vomiting. The antibiotic was combined with other medications, but the results were immediately visible. The dog is now doing well."
Veterinarian Reviews
Anton Andreevich, veterinarian (work experience – 15 years):
"Interspectin-L is an excellent antibiotic. Despite its effectiveness, it's gentle and doesn't cause side effects. It's a shame it's not available in smaller packages. I only prescribe it for advanced illnesses. In such cases, the cost is completely worth it."
Tatyana, a veterinarian at a St. Petersburg clinic:
"Our clinic has been using Interspectin-L for a long time. It's one of the best antibiotics. It always works 100%, and quickly. Honestly, I use it regularly at the clinic, but I rarely prescribe it for home treatment, as buying a large bottle is usually unaffordable for pet owners. If the drug were available in smaller bottles, it would be much more popular due to its effectiveness and safety."
