General description
Interspectin-L is available as an injection solution. It is a clear, colorless liquid, sometimes with a slight yellowish tint. It is packaged in 100 ml clear glass vials. Since the solution is administered by injection, it is important that it remain sterile. Therefore, the vials are sealed with rubber stoppers, which are then sealed with aluminum caps.
To ensure that the medicine does not lose its pharmacological properties, it is necessary to ensure proper storage conditions:
- For storage, you need to choose a dry place.
- The medicine bottle should not be exposed to direct sunlight. Avoid placing it near heat sources.
- The temperature should not exceed 25 degrees Celsius, but you should not allow the solution to freeze.

The medication can be stored in an unopened bottle for 3 years from the date of manufacture (the date is indicated on the packaging). After the expiration date, the antibiotic is prohibited for use in animals. The solution should be discarded, but no special precautions are required.
Please note! After opening, store the medicine at a temperature of 2 to 8°C for no more than 2 weeks.
Composition and action
The basis of Interspectin-L is a combination of two active components:
- Lincomycin. Each 1 ml of medicinal solution contains 50 mg of this substance. This component has a pronounced antibacterial effect against a number of pathogenic microorganisms, including staphylococci, streptococci, mycoplasma, clostridia, corynebacteria, and treponema.
- Spectonomycin. The medication contains 100 mg of this antibiotic per 1 ml of solution. It is effective against mycoplasma, E. coli, and camplibacteria.
The active ingredients work in a similar way: they inhibit protein synthesis in pathogenic microorganisms, preventing their reproduction and leading to their death. The unique feature of this antibacterial agent is that the components complement each other's actions. When administered intramuscularly, the substances quickly enter the bloodstream and are distributed throughout the body. Maximum concentrations are reached within 50-60 minutes, and the therapeutic effect lasts for 24 hours, so one injection per day is sufficient. The active ingredients are eliminated from the body through bile and urine.

The composition of the medicinal product includes the following excipients:
- benzyl alcohol;
- citric acid;
- purified water.
Please note! Interspectin-L is classified as a moderately hazardous substance. Although a prescription is not required, it should not be used without a doctor's prescription.
Indications for use
A combination antibiotic is prescribed to cats to treat the following diseases:
- dysentery;
- colibacillosis;
- mycoplasma;
- enteritiscaused by pathogenic microorganisms;
- diseases of the digestive system of bacterial origin.
The drug is also used to treat pneumonia, tonsillitis, and other respiratory diseases caused by staphylococci, streptococci, and other bacteria sensitive to the components of Interspectin-L.
How to apply
The instructions for use state that Interspectin-L injections for cats should only be administered intramuscularly. Injections are typically administered into the thigh. The dosage is calculated based on the animal's weight: 0.2 ml per 1 kg of body weight. Injections are administered once daily. It is not recommended to skip injections or disrupt the treatment regimen, as this may negatively impact the drug's effectiveness. It is advisable to administer injections at the same time, as the antibiotic's effect wears off after 24 hours. The course of treatment is prescribed by a doctor and typically lasts 3-5 days. In rare cases, the drug may be used longer, but not longer than 21 days.
When administering medication, aseptic and antiseptic precautions must be observed. The person administering the injection must wear latex or rubber medical gloves. Disposable syringes should be used for injections. Otherwise, syringes and needles must be sterilized before each procedure.

Depending on the symptoms, disease progression, and overall condition of the animal, vitamin supplements, immunomodulators, and symptomatic medications may be prescribed in combination with Interspectin-L. However, it should not be combined with other antibacterial medications.
Contraindications and side effects
Interspectin-L should not be used in the following cases:
- in case of liver failure;
- at renal failure and severe kidney diseases;
- in case of intolerance to the components.
When first administered, monitor the animal's reaction. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue further use and select a different antibiotic.
Please note! During pregnancy and lactation, Interspectin-L should only be used after consulting a doctor.
Sometimes a painful swelling occurs at the injection site, which resolves quickly and does not require special treatment. If allergic reactions occur, the animal is prescribed an antihistamine (anti-allergy medication). Cats generally tolerate the antibacterial medication well, but the following side effects sometimes occur:
- diarrhea;
- itching;
- loss of appetite;
- apathy.
Symptoms resolve spontaneously after treatment is completed. Similar health problems can also occur with drug overdose.

Advantages and disadvantages
The main advantages of Interspectin-L include the following:
- high efficiency;
- broad spectrum of action;
- minimum contraindications;
- short treatment period – usually 3-5 injections are enough;
- compatibility with other drugs (except antibiotics).
Many cat owners consider the method of administering the medication—intramuscular injections—a drawback. Not all cat owners are skilled at administering these injections, and taking their pet to the veterinarian daily is sometimes impossible. Furthermore, any transportation is stressful for cats.
Another serious drawback is that the medication is packaged in large 100 ml bottles. A cat typically doesn't need that much medication for a course of treatment, and any leftovers have to be discarded.
Price
Given the relatively high price of Interspectin-L—approximately 900-1000 rubles per bottle—purchasing it can be an unreasonable expense. To resolve this issue, some veterinary clinics offer bulk purchases of the medication in the required quantity. In smaller towns, the medication may not be available at veterinary pharmacies at all.

Owner reviews
Alina, an avid cat lover:
"I always have a lot of cats in my house. For example, right now there are eight. Violetta came to us not long ago. She lived on the street and had some health issues. When she developed a third eyelid (a film that half-covers the eye), we went to the vet. He prescribed a comprehensive treatment, but the main one was the antibiotic Interspectin-L. Incidentally, I hadn't heard of it before, even though I've been working with animals for over 30 years. Violetta tolerated the injections well, showing almost no resistance. The medication was effective; results were visible on the third day. There were no side effects."
Vita, the owner of the Scottish Fold:
"Our cat had gum and dental problems (stomatitis and periodontitis). We spent a long time treating him. The doctor prescribed Stomorgil, but it caused him to foam at the mouth. We stopped the medication and recommended Interspectin-L. To my surprise, the instructions didn't mention our ailments, but we still gave him injections because we trust the doctor. The results were immediate—we only had four injections. Now there's no sign of the problem, and he feels great."
Veterinarian Reviews
Denis Vitalievich, a veterinarian with 14 years of experience:
"I consider Interspectin-L one of the best antibiotics for pets. It's well-tolerated by dogs, cats, and even birds. Side effects are extremely rare, which is very good considering it's a powerful antibacterial agent. The main drawback is the impractical packaging and high price."
Maria, a veterinarian with 8 years of experience:
"A good antibacterial agent with a broad spectrum of action. It's used frequently at our clinic, including by myself. It's one of the few antibiotics for cats that can be used without intestinal side effects. Unlike other medications with similar effects, it rarely causes dysbiosis. There's no need to supplement with lacto- or bifidobacteria to restore the microflora."
