General description
Inspector Total is available as spot-on drops. This solution is intended for external use only. Avoid ingesting it. The clear liquid, usually colorless or light yellow, has an oily consistency. It is packaged in disposable polymer pipettes. Inspector Total K drops for cats are available in two sizes: 0.4 ml and 0.8 ml droppers for animals of different weights. Droppers are packaged individually in cardboard boxes.

There are no special storage requirements for this medication. A few rules are sufficient:
- the temperature should not be higher than 30˚C and not fall below zero;
- relative humidity should be no more than 60%;
- Exposure to direct sunlight is not allowed.
In general, a shelf in a cabinet or another place where you store other veterinary medications is suitable for storage.
The action of the drug is due to the combination of two active components:
- fipronil;
- moxidectin.
The medicinal liquid contains auxiliary components.
Pharmacological properties
Due to the fact that it contains two active components, the drug is effective against the following parasites:
- hair-eaters;
- ixodid and sarcoptic mites;
- fleas;
- scabies mites;
- microfilariae larvae (heart parasites);
- intestinal nematodes (roundworms).

The active ingredients work differently, but they complement each other. Fipronil kills ticks and insects that parasitize animals. It works by blocking GABA receptors, which subsequently leads to disruption of the nervous system. This leads to paralysis and death of external parasites. A unique feature of this substance is that it barely penetrates the bloodstream or internal organs, yet quickly spreads throughout the epidermis. It accumulates in the fur and the upper layer of the skin, resulting in a long-lasting effect.
The second active ingredient, moxidectin, affects parasites differently. It stimulates the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid. Excessive amounts of this acid disrupt the connections between muscles and the nervous system. This quickly leads to paralysis, which inevitably leads to death. worms and insects. Unlike fipronil, moxidectin penetrates the bloodstream and is then distributed throughout the body. This allows it to kill not only external parasites but also roundworms and microfilarial larvae.
Indications for use
According to the instructions, Inspector Total spot-on drops for cats are used to treat the following diseases:
- entomoses;
- acaroses caused by ixodid ticks;
- ear mites;
- notoedrosis;
- helminthic infestations caused by roundworms.

The medication can be used for prevention dirofilariasis – one of the most dangerous parasitic diseases caused by heartworms. The drug only affects the larvae, so it can prevent the disease from progressing, but is not suitable for its treatment.
Please note: Although this medication is considered safe, consult your veterinarian before use.
How to apply
The instructions for use state that Inspector Total K should be applied to dry, intact skin on cats. Do not use on wounds, scratches, or other injuries. The dosage depends on the cat's weight:
- for animals from 1 to 4 kg – 0.4 ml;
- for pets from 4 to 8 kg – 0.8 ml.

If the medication is used prophylactically, it is applied to the base of the neck to prevent the cat from licking it. If the medication is used to treat parasitic infections, the application depends on the type of infection:
- To kill parasitic insects, apply the drops at the dosage indicated above between the shoulder blades or at the base of the neck to prevent the animal from licking them. This treatment is a one-time procedure. Care should also be taken to prevent re-infestation. To do this, treat the pet's habitat with special products. To prevent infestations, apply the drops every 1-1.5 months from spring to fall.
- If a tick has attached itself to your cat, apply one drop of the medication to the tick and wait 20 minutes. If the tick doesn't fall off on its own, carefully remove it with tweezers. Avoid allowing your cat to lick the medication.
- For the drops to be effective against ear mites, the external ear canals must be thoroughly cleaned. A special lotion can be used. Then, place 3 drops of Inspector in each ear. Both ears should be treated, even if the mite is in one. The remaining product in the dropper is applied between the shoulder blades. The procedure is repeated up to 3 times at 7-10 day intervals, depending on the severity of the infection. If the scabies is accompanied by inflammation, antibacterial agents are also used.
- For notoedric mange, the affected areas are first cleaned and then a thin layer of the medication is applied. The recommended dose is 0.1 ml per 1 kg. Until the solution dries, the animal is placed on a neck collar or restrained, preventing licking. The treatment is repeated 2-3 times, with an interval of 7 to 10 days between applications.
- It is worth applying the medicine monthly to prevent dirofilariasis during the period of mosquito activity.

Deworming is convenient because, unlike tablets and suspensions, it doesn't require being forced into the animal. A single drop of the medication on the skin is sufficient. To prevent roundworms, the procedure should be repeated monthly.
The medicine's unique feature is that it takes time for it to take effect. Therefore, avoid any water activities for 4 days after treatment.
Please note! If the eardrum is perforated (there is a hole), do not apply the drops directly into the ear canal. In this case, the drops can be applied to the skin of the neck or back.
When banned
Inspector Total K should not be used on cats under 7 weeks of age. The medication can be dangerous for animals weakened by illness or other factors, as well as those suffering from malnutrition. Another contraindication is hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
For pregnant and lactating cats, use is possible only after consultation with a doctor.

If the recommended dosage is followed, Inspector Total does not cause any side effects in cats. Occasionally, the application site may become red and itchy. If an allergic reaction occurs, the medication should be washed off and the animal given an antiallergic medication.
If the dose is increased, the following symptoms may occur:
- nausea, vomiting and other digestive system disorders (may also occur if the animal manages to lick the solution);
- apathy or depression;
- increased saliva production;
- muscle tremors and loss of coordination.
If such symptoms occur, the medication should be washed off as soon as possible. Symptomatic treatment should be used if necessary.

Owner reviews
Marta, owner of 4 cats:
“I have four cats in my house, so I know a lot about parasite prevention. I’ve been using it for several years now.” Inspector "Total. An excellent product for protecting animals from external and internal parasites. Animals always tolerate the treatment without any negative consequences."
Vladimir, owner of a British cat:
"We used to use separate flea and tick drops and deworming tablets. Giving the tablets to our cat was difficult. On the vet's recommendation, we bought Inspector drops. Imagine our surprise when the cat spent two days clearing worms. He didn't feel well, apparently due to toxicity. The product works, and most importantly, it's easy to use. Now we use these drops exclusively for prevention."
Veterinarian Reviews
Ekaterina, a veterinarian with 11 years of experience:
"It's a good drug, but it's more suitable for prevention. When used to treat notoedrosis, it showed weak effectiveness compared to drops of Advocate, which I regularly use in my practice. For the prevention and treatment of helminthic infestations, it's best to use anthelmintics that target both roundworms and tapeworms. There's a huge selection on the market today."
Vadim, a veterinarian with 6 years of experience:
"Inspector Total is a good antiparasitic medication. It rarely causes side effects, although they are inevitable (it is a poison, after all). Overall, it's quite effective, but there have been instances where it hasn't been effective enough, and I've had to find another remedy."
