Cats and dogs are predators

We've grown accustomed to thinking of them as family members, comrades, and companions. We share their joys, their sorrows, and sometimes even our beds. We adore them and are beside ourselves when they're sick. We live side by side with them for centuries and sometimes forget that wild blood flows in their veins. Because, in reality, they are predators.

Yes, you guessed it correctly. We're talking about pets. By nature, they're designed to thrive on animal protein, found in meat. In their natural diet, this should make up about 50-80%.

Does this mean we need to stock up on raw meat, poultry and fish?

Of course, you can pamper your eared sweet tooth with meat fillet for breakfast and dinner, but there are certain risks.

  • Firstly, although cats and dogs have highly acidic stomachs to handle large amounts of protein, this doesn't protect them from parasites: helminths can enter the animal's system along with raw meat. We usually manage this danger by cooking. Unfortunately, this isn't practical for pets: fried foods are strictly prohibited, and boiled foods contain fewer nutrients and are harder to digest. Contrary to popular belief, all foods included in our pets' daily diet should be of the highest quality and fit for human consumption. Furthermore, the importance of organ meats—cartilage, hearts, and gizzards—must not be forgotten.
  • Secondly, in the wild, predators' diets remain balanced, as most of their prey are herbivores, and along with their internal organs, the animals consume plant proteins, including medicinal herbs. In fact, recreating the biologically appropriate diet of our furry predators' wild ancestors in a domestic environment is virtually impossible.

But fortunately for those who want to give their pet the very best, Canadian pet nutritionists have already taken care of this. They have developed formulas containing fresh, unfrozen meat of various varieties, a whole host of phytonutrients, only healthy vegetables, and delicious berries and fruits in precisely the right proportions to satisfy the natural needs of your graceful cat or athletic dog.

Maintaining a biologically balanced diet can certainly have a positive impact not only on your four-legged friend's well-being, but also on their appearance. It's a form of natural nutrition, meaning your pet will be at their most active and beautiful.
