X-GIA for dogs
X-GIA is a veterinary medication used for dogs with musculoskeletal problems. This natural chondroprotector is produced by the Russian company MNPK Biotekhindustriya. Using this medication as part of a combination therapy significantly increases its effectiveness, but it can also be used as monotherapy (treatment with a single drug).
Content
General description
X-GIA is produced as an injection solution. The medicinal liquid is colorless, although a slight turbidity may sometimes be present. During storage, a small amount of sediment may sometimes appear at the bottom. This is normal and is due to the properties of the medication. The liquid has a faint, characteristic odor.

The solution is sterile from the factory, so it is packaged in clear glass vials. They are sealed with rubber stoppers and aluminum caps. Each vial contains 12 ml. Each glass container is individually packaged in a cardboard box.
The main ingredient in the preparation, which determines its pharmacological properties, is hydrolyzed human umbilical cord tissue. To obtain this biological material, the manufacturer uses innovative technologies and unique developments in the fields of pharmacology and medicine. Purified water is an auxiliary component in the solution.
Important! Store the medication at a temperature between 4 and 10˚C. For example, the bottle can be placed in the refrigerator door, but away from food.
How it works
This chondroprotector contains naturally occurring ingredients but has a broad spectrum of action. It not only helps eliminate the underlying cause of the condition and stop cartilage destruction, but also effectively relieves the animal of unpleasant symptoms that prevent it from leading a normal life and being active.

X-GIA has the following effects:
- relieves pain;
- stops the development of inflammation;
- relieves swelling;
- restores joint mobility;
- maintains the elasticity and firmness of cartilage;
- prevents age-related pathological changes.
The drug's properties are due to the fact that human umbilical cord tissue, processed using a special method, contains biologically active substances:
- Chondroitin. It participates in the formation of cartilage cells. It helps cartilage retain moisture, which helps it maintain its shock-absorbing properties and prevent premature wear. Furthermore, chondroitin inhibits the synthesis of enzymes that have a destructive effect on cartilage tissue.
- Hyaluronic acid. It participates in the synthesis of connective tissue, improves tissue blood flow, and inhibits inflammatory processes. Furthermore, it improves the properties of synovial fluid, which prevents friction between individual joint parts and halts the degeneration of bone and cartilage. It also stimulates the body's defenses.
X-GIA is classified as a low-hazard medication. If used according to the instructions, it does not cause irritation or other adverse reactions.
How much does it cost and where to buy it?
The price of a 12 ml bottle of X-GIA ranges from 1,200 to 1,500 rubles at different pharmacies. It is sold in both traditional and online veterinary pharmacies. Although the medication is produced by a domestic company, it is not widely available, so pharmacies in smaller towns may not stock it. In these cases, the medication can only be purchased online.
When used
The instructions for use provide precise recommendations regarding the use of X-GIA in dogs. It is commonly used to treat the following conditions:
- hip dysplasia;
- arthritis;
- arthrosis;
- coxarthrosis;
- osteoporosis;
- other pathologies of the musculoskeletal system.

The drug is sometimes used to prevent the above-mentioned diseases. It is effective for animals at risk. This includes large breeds, overweight pets, older animals, and dogs with a history of joint injuries.
Please note! X-GIA can also be used to correct changes that occur during the period of intensive growth in puppies.
How to apply
The injection solution is administered to animals intramuscularlyAccording to the instructions, the drug should be injected into soft tissue, but as close to the affected joint as possible. The dosage depends on the pet's weight:
- up to 5 kg – 0.5 ml;
- from 5 to 25 kg – 1 ml;
- more than 25 kg – 2 ml.
A course of treatment typically consists of 7-10 injections. The number of injections should be determined by a veterinarian after a complete examination of the animal. Chondroprotector injections should be administered every 48 hours.

It's important to follow the manufacturer's recommended dosage regimen. Only then will the medication be sufficiently effective. Missing injections will impact the therapeutic effect. If an injection is missed on time, the situation must be corrected as soon as possible.
Please note! Chondroprotectors can be used in conjunction with other medications, including those aimed at relieving symptoms.
When using X-GIA, novocaine injections are usually not required. If the dog is experiencing severe pain, as evidenced by reluctance to move and whining, the veterinarian may prescribe a pain reliever.
If muscle mass gain doesn't coincide with the development of the musculoskeletal joint, the puppy may develop lameness. In this case, a chondroprotector can accelerate the formation of cartilage tissue and overall joint development. The dosage is the same as for treating inflammatory processes. Additionally, blocking with novocaine may be used. The medication is injected into the affected limb. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the problem, but no more than 10 injections are required.
Contraindications and side effects
X-GIA has no contraindications. The exception may be an individual intolerance in a dog. This can manifest itself in various allergic reactions, but this is quite rare.

The chondroprotector does not cause any side effects in pets, so it can be used for therapeutic and preventive purposes, as a supportive therapy for degenerative processes.
Advantages and disadvantages
The use of X-GIA for dogs has many benefits:
- compatible with various medications;
- has high efficiency;
- has no contraindications;
- does not provoke the development of side effects;
- suitable for the treatment and prevention of the development of pathologies;
- natural origin;
- does not contain any chemical components;
- can be used for animals of different ages and breeds.

The disadvantages include the dosage form. But if you compare X-GIA with other chondroprotectorsIt's more convenient to use. It's injected into muscles rather than joints, so injections can be administered independently with minimal skill. However, only a doctor with the appropriate knowledge and skills can administer a joint injection. Another drawback of this medication is that it must be refrigerated, which can be inconvenient during transportation.
Owner reviews
Anna, the owner of an Airedale Terrier:
"As our dog aged, he developed musculoskeletal issues. The doctor prescribed Bonharen, but when we saw its price, we started looking for a more affordable alternative. We came across X-GIA and decided to save money; the price was significantly lower. The medication helped us get our dog back on his feet. We were very pleased with the results and recommend it to others."
Marina, owner of a Giant Schnauzer:
"We were prescribed X-GIA for hip arthritis. The medication proved effective and helped the dog get back on his feet. We bought it on the recommendation of our veterinarian, who said it was an effective, but unpromoted, chondroprotector."
Veterinarian Reviews
Victor, a veterinarian from a Moscow clinic:
"Our clinic has only recently started using X-GIA, but the results are encouraging. Its effectiveness and safety have been confirmed through numerous trials with large and small breed dogs of various ages. We've also successfully used the medication in horses. The medication doesn't require injection into the joint, so owners can administer the injections themselves. This is a major advantage. And of course, the price! It's low compared to similar products."
Maria, a veterinarian with 5 years of experience:
"I first heard about this product from a client. She spoke very positively about it. I decided to learn more about it. I found the results of clinical trials that confirmed its effectiveness. After that, I started using it in my practice. I usually use it as part of a comprehensive treatment, but the improvements are noticeable. I believe that X-GIA is unfairly under-popular among veterinarians. It is quite effective at a reasonable price."
